The Angels’ Loss Streak Reaches Double Digits

Michael Lorenzen turned in the most impressive implosion of 2022 on Saturday.

A nightmarish first in which 5 runs were quickly allowed off hard contact and wildness was followed by a heck of a lot of shutout ball as the starter somehow made it through 5.2. While a 10th consecutive loss seemed (and was) inevitable, seeing the starter save us from having to use Herget out the gate was rather nice.

Jared Walsh would knock in two runs over the course of the game, but it would be too little too late. The Angels have now dropped enough games in a row to make the Mariners jealous and are back at .500, solidifying one of the team’s greatest collapses in decades.

Adell starting in RF? What happened with Joe’s accurate proclamation this week that Jo needs more work in SLC? Joe Perry feeling some heat?

Angels do have Monte Harrision and Magneuris Sierra at SLC. Both are mediocre bats but they are OFs and play defense. Or go make a trade and cut Lagares. I had liked the fact they pushed Adell down to SLC to improve his outfield work. It will take a lot more than 1-month.

Who cares. Like ‘they’ would listen to the people that help pay for them to be millionaires and/or billionaires. They (owner, management, players) all know better than us rank and file.

I hope the game doesn’t go til 3:30! Well – it would mean we were at least tied into extras for another hour (should be done by 2:30PDT not PST 😉)

I really hope not. Young core needs to stay 2gether. Uptown Junk’s contract falls off at season’s end enables some FA signing room for 2023.

My over-the-top exuberance while meant to be high energy fun and most certainly good natured, seems misplaced now. Never did I think that a 10-game losing streak with the players we have would have ever happened. Could have ever happened. Jeez, as bad as the Orioles are or the Royals are, they haven’t lost 10 in a row. Starting Pitching has gone bad, check. Relief pitching gone bad, check. The whole team’s hitting disappeared, check. Fielding gone bad, check. Like mysteries before this total crash, this seem’s as though this crash cannot be solved.

Am I as I watch this collapse surprised every night, well, yes I am. Oh I would not have been so surprised with 3 week record of say 6-12, but this disaster was not to be foreseen by me. With Trout, Ohtani, Rendon, Fletcher, Marsh and Adell how would anyone have seen this coming. Every single pitcher falling and failing at the same exact time, especially after the great start, is just a huge shock.

With the Blue Jays series I quit guessing the scores while still predicting wins. With the Yankees I quit predicting wins, and every night I leave CTPG site because it has been taken over by Doomer’s and who can blame anyone for being negative right now.

wait! Progress! We lost 10-0, right? Then 7-2. So it’s natural, since they scored 3 less than the night before, that they’ll score 3 less tomorrow, or 4. And we scored 2 more tonight than we did last night so it’s likely we’ll score 2 more tomorrow, so 4. We’re gonna tie!

Their record scoring 3 or less is eye gouging. Some parts of the team will turn around but I hope Perry looks at making some changes prior to AS break as the clock should be ticking and you don’t want dig yourself in too big of a hole.

What has Minasian done that would prompt his removal? This is not the issue at the moment. It may become an issue in the future, but this fixes absolutely nothing about the team THIS YEAR.

Totally agree. There is literally zero reason to consider removing PTP.

Number one, he just got started, so even if he had shit the bed, (and he hasn’t !) it would be too soon.

Number two, look at the good decisions he has made recently:

1) bringing in Lorenzen : check
2) bringing in Thor (despite recent downturn, still overall “good”) : check
3) still thinking extending Raisel was a good move and I am confident
that Iggy will recover his mojo in short-order; all closer have slumps
4) the Loup decision now appears to be in question, so depending upon what happens the rest of this year and next that could go in either the positive or negative column
5) the same could be said for Tepera as for Loup, but I think this move is leaning more towards the “positive” column.

In short, PTP has at least done a “passable” job if not good job, this losing streak notwithstanding. Of all of the key baseball people in the org the losing streak is probably least of all on him.

The 7-2 score should have been yesterday’s game and todays 10th straight loss should have been 10-0.

Good news is that it doesn’t rain every day. Some positives, Walsh hoding his own and Ohtani picking up some walks. Hopefully Ward comes back soon. Weird note on Iglesias not pitching for over a week and declining to go in for work.

The ‘for the sake of it’ is the key to this comment, no? Sounds like he is happy to come in if he is needed – but didn’t feel that Joe should feel obliged to just give him work.

I am happy to see Ortega pitch well there – quite keen that he gets back on track.

How to turn this around:

1. Fire the pitching coach. Seriously enough already.
2. Bring back McWallach. Guy has mojo.
3. Change the logo or uniforms somehow. Maybe the old lowercase “a”.
4. Trade someone, just not my boy Rengifo 😆
5. Turn over some tables in anger, preferably with Gatorade or food on them.

If the Angels aren’t careful they may use up all their suck for the season and go on a 30 game win streak. If they go through a streak of games where none of our players seem to be able to do anything wrong then we’ll know why.

Whether people think he deserves it or not, sends a message. He’s a great front man but tactician and handling of in game decisions is flat out scary. He goes, before Angels get back home.

Eh, if he goes he goes. I was never impressed with him back when everyone was pining for him. But I don’t want to get a new guy every couple of years, so who ever comes next I’m gonna want to ride with for a while, suck or no suck.

And honestly, most of the people who have a problem with Joe had a problem with brad after they had a problem with Soth…. basically arte could build a time machine and hire Casey Stengal and a pile of us would bitch cause Arte did it. Who ever is manager needs players to not suck.

GrandpaBaseball

You’re right, I was not big on Brad, and I am anything but big on Zenman, but I loved Sosh. He did very well with even sucky teams. But really how can anyone be a fan of our manager. In game strategy is very poor, knowing when to pull a starter, very poor, bringing in the right arm from the pen, very poor, making out lineups, very poor, motivating his player’s, very poor. I think I got it all. Vote No on Joe.

If we lose tomorrow, look out folks.

Not only will that be a third straight series we get swept in, but Boston is on deck and they have put it together recently and are both hitting and pitching right now. We could be looking at 14 or 15 straight losses, and I am not joking when I say that.

Those people who predicted we would be out of the playoff race by mid-June may turn out to be correct after all.

I doubt we will have that bad a losing streak, however we could still be staring at a 3-20 record through the last few weeks. This was quite conceivable because they’ve always struggled against the two TX teams on the road, and have always struggled against the AL East except for BALT and especially on the road. Like War of the Worlds aliens vs earth born bacteria….LOL!!! Had to throw that in there. Always been a Sci Fi and horror guy.

All it would take for 14 is that we lose tomorrow (have to think that is pretty likely at this point, as one simply can’t image us scoring more than 1 or maybe 2 runs.). Then a hot Boston teams needs to beat us three straight with guys like Wacha and Witlock and Eovaldi pitching.

What is so hard to believe about that?
