LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Crash Considerations

The Tampa Bay Rays got Aaron Civale for their rotation. The Brewers traded for Mark Canha from the Mets while the Diamondbacks traded for reliever Paul Sewald from the Mariners. The Royals swapped Jose Cuas to the Cubs for Nelson Velazquez straight up. The Reds acquired Sam Moll from the Athletics for pitching prospect Joe Boyle. The Giants acquired AJ Pollock and Mark Mathias from the Mariners for cash considerations or a player to be named later. The Cubs got Jeimer Candelario.

The Astros claimed right-hander Jake Cousins off waivers from the Brewers and designated Blake Taylor for assignment.

Nathan Eovaldi is officially on the 15 day injured list.

Just arrived in Taipei for a transit flight to Beijing. Had to check in on the deadline, would have liked to have given Flaherty a taste of the big A for two months. Leone is not sexy at all but Jackson has failed to progress. Wash. Won’t be able to check in on scores for a while based on where I am headed so when I get back on the 19th, I hope we are 10 games over .500. Go Halos and beat the Braves!

Phil is still a bum…I’m out.

Bachman and Joyce are probably not coming back this month if they’re still not throwing. Jackson is probably never getting more than a few cups of coffee.

Getting a guy that has been someone useful over the past month makes sense since the Angels are burning the boats and bridges. This isn’t a trade to worry about.

I agree with Joyce, who will probably be shut down completely because of his UCL/ulnar nerve issue. The last time I heard anything about Bachman was a few weeks ago that he was in Arizona facility waiting to start throwing again. Hopefully, either Sammy or Jeff Fletcher asks Nevin to update where he is.

Well you know, 1 or more of Perry’s cast offs are going to hit the big time. TrAdition tells us so. But for everyone else there was a really interesting article in Baseball America today about the small percentage of prospects in mid season trades that actually have a consequential MLB career. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/teams-are-getting-better-at-picking-prospects-in-trade-deadline-deals/

Thank you for the link. Yordan Alvarez, Jeimer Candelario, Marco Gonzalez from 2017 and Jonah Heim, Josh Naylor, Frankie Montas, Gleyber Torres from 2016 deadline. Pretty good list.

I keep hoping that deadline straggler comes through of “Angels acquire ERod” or “Cease” or something like that.

I’ll keep hitting refresh on my browser at MLBTR until I see it…

Eduardo Rodriguez No Trade list had 10 teams. I have a feeling that the Angels are one of them. White Sox was rumored to have asked for Sho and Rendon for Cease.

Cease has 2 years of control left. We literally do not have the assets to acquire someone like that.

Nor would Arte want someone beyond this year. They seem to be preparing for a total reset if Ohtani leaves.

Rodriguez declined the Dodgers apparently because he didn’t want to go to the west coast.

He has family on the east coast and didn’t want to be that far away.

Ha ha. I laughed when I saw this story ; that he shot down the trade. I think he has heard via the grapevine the way the Dodgers org treats players, especially Latin players… Who knows, he might have heard directly from Urias …

Stay away !

The Blumster hates the trade, which can only mean Perry did well.

Dominic Leone since 6/27

2 ER

I don’t have stats on inherited runners allowed since 6/27.

for the entire 2023 season the Dominator has only allowed 25% of IBS so not a full blow out.

Devo is at 30% and the Webmaster is at 50%for the season.

Yeah…this happens a lot of years. We as Angel fans feel this guy has a high profile because he’s a guy that once had hype in a bad farm.

Ok dokey. In their 11 appearances:

The Webmaster has a 6.55 ERA .848 OPS against 1.60 WHIP 1.25 K/BB
Devo has a 12.19 ERA 1.106 OPS and a 2.70 WHIP 1,45 K/BB

The Dominator has a 2.08 ERA .750 OPS Against 1.15 WHIP and a 3.0 K/BB

Comprendo?

Cowboy26

Their last 11 games they appeared in?

I would think their recent performances are kind of important going forward in a pennant race .

The point is Webb & Devenski started off hot and have sucked giant balls for awhile now. This guy has been consistently good all season and right now we desperately need help especially if our 6th starter can barely go 5 innings.

Yeah – he’s missing the word last.

What have they done for their teams lately. We have a worn out bunch down there. Loup is our top (middle relief) dawg at the moment and that’s scary

That’s not the point. The concern is we acquired dumpster-level return for the limited prospect capital we have.

This the best RP the Platypus could acquire for a playoff run?

Jackson is a career .245 hitter in the minor leagues. It appears that the Angels gave up on him. Though, I agree that this could have been a waiver wire pick up.

He’s one of several of those raw, young athletic Eppler guys that were once Top 5/Top 10 prospects for the Angels that lost their shine as the years went on and no meaningful progression clicked in.

He hit .215 last year. Repeated AA and has hit .248 so far. Really long swing and strikes out a lot.

I saw him in the spring and questioned the hype then. Hasn’t done much at AA this year either. Happy to bet that his departure won’t be second guessed a few years from now.

Leone’s overall numbers don’t look great, but he’s pitched to a 1.80 ERA over his last 12 appearances dating back to late June. The 31-year-old right-hander figures to slide into a middle-relief role with the all-in Halos.“
