The Tampa Bay Rays got Aaron Civale for their rotation. The Brewers traded for Mark Canha from the Mets while the Diamondbacks traded for reliever Paul Sewald from the Mariners. The Royals swapped Jose Cuas to the Cubs for Nelson Velazquez straight up. The Reds acquired Sam Moll from the Athletics for pitching prospect Joe Boyle. The Giants acquired AJ Pollock and Mark Mathias from the Mariners for cash considerations or a player to be named later. The Cubs got Jeimer Candelario.
The Astros claimed right-hander Jake Cousins off waivers from the Brewers and designated Blake Taylor for assignment.
Nathan Eovaldi is officially on the 15 day injured list.

Just arrived in Taipei for a transit flight to Beijing. Had to check in on the deadline, would have liked to have given Flaherty a taste of the big A for two months. Leone is not sexy at all but Jackson has failed to progress. Wash. Won’t be able to check in on scores for a while based on where I am headed so when I get back on the 19th, I hope we are 10 games over .500. Go Halos and beat the Braves!
Phil is still a bum…I’m out.
Have a safe and pleasant trip, sir. We will do our best to protect the fort as your loyal soldiers.
Let’s take the series tonight!!
Go Halos!!
Bachman and Joyce are probably not coming back this month if they’re still not throwing. Jackson is probably never getting more than a few cups of coffee.
Getting a guy that has been someone useful over the past month makes sense since the Angels are burning the boats and bridges. This isn’t a trade to worry about.
I agree with Joyce, who will probably be shut down completely because of his UCL/ulnar nerve issue. The last time I heard anything about Bachman was a few weeks ago that he was in Arizona facility waiting to start throwing again. Hopefully, either Sammy or Jeff Fletcher asks Nevin to update where he is.
Well you know, 1 or more of Perry’s cast offs are going to hit the big time. TrAdition tells us so. But for everyone else there was a really interesting article in Baseball America today about the small percentage of prospects in mid season trades that actually have a consequential MLB career. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/teams-are-getting-better-at-picking-prospects-in-trade-deadline-deals/
Thank you for the link. Yordan Alvarez, Jeimer Candelario, Marco Gonzalez from 2017 and Jonah Heim, Josh Naylor, Frankie Montas, Gleyber Torres from 2016 deadline. Pretty good list.
Theres a lot of Angels on it. especially from the early 2010’s ( post Stand Pat Stoneman days)
I keep hoping that deadline straggler comes through of “Angels acquire ERod” or “Cease” or something like that.
I’ll keep hitting refresh on my browser at MLBTR until I see it…
Eduardo Rodriguez No Trade list had 10 teams. I have a feeling that the Angels are one of them. White Sox was rumored to have asked for Sho and Rendon for Cease.
Oh stop it.
😉
I’d counter with just Rendon.
Cease has 2 years of control left. We literally do not have the assets to acquire someone like that.
Nor would Arte want someone beyond this year. They seem to be preparing for a total reset if Ohtani leaves.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PpXu-2fPHc
Rodriguez declined the Dodgers apparently because he didn’t want to go to the west coast.
He has family on the east coast and didn’t want to be that far away.
Thats the official story. We know reality.
Ha ha. I laughed when I saw this story ; that he shot down the trade. I think he has heard via the grapevine the way the Dodgers org treats players, especially Latin players… Who knows, he might have heard directly from Urias …
Stay away !
The Blumster hates the trade, which can only mean Perry did well.
Dominic Leone since 6/27
10 IP
2 ER
6 hits
15 K
4 BB
95 mph FB.
I don’t have stats on inherited runners allowed since 6/27.
There’s no need to cherry pick stats, you’re better than that
I’ll admit, this dude shouldn’t be put in any high leverage situation.
for the entire 2023 season the Dominator has only allowed 25% of IBS so not a full blow out.
Devo is at 30% and the Webmaster is at 50%for the season.
since 6/27 4/8 have scored.
Thanks CB ! I didn’t feel like looking it up
Angels traded Jeremiah Jackson for a guy you could get on the waiver wire. A baffling trade
What the fucj?????
JJ is a well-known prospect name amongst our fanbase. He isn’t rated highly by the majority of prospect outlets.
Yeah…this happens a lot of years. We as Angel fans feel this guy has a high profile because he’s a guy that once had hype in a bad farm.
Think Jahmai Jones
Isn’t he a Billy pick?
He was. 2nd round pick in 2018
Outside of Marsh those haven’t exactly panned out.
Adell
Adams
Jackson
Wilson
Paris
It’s still pretty early on a lot of those guys. Paris has a .375 OBP in AA and Adams was called to the big leagues today
I guess it’s a good thing that Perry kept the good ones then right ?
Maybe we could’ve traded him to SF with Rendone for salary relief. 😛
Yeah but why even make this trade? Leone isn’t better than Jacob Webb or Chris Devinski
hes better than both combined-at least this year.
Would love to know what metrics you’re basing that on. The three are very comparable to each other
Ok dokey. In their 11 appearances:
The Webmaster has a 6.55 ERA .848 OPS against 1.60 WHIP 1.25 K/BB
Devo has a 12.19 ERA 1.106 OPS and a 2.70 WHIP 1,45 K/BB
The Dominator has a 2.08 ERA .750 OPS Against 1.15 WHIP and a 3.0 K/BB
Comprendo?
What do you mean by their 11 appearances? Last 11 appearances? We’re only talking about short term?
Their last 11 games they appeared in?
I would think their recent performances are kind of important going forward in a pennant race .
The point is Webb & Devenski started off hot and have sucked giant balls for awhile now. This guy has been consistently good all season and right now we desperately need help especially if our 6th starter can barely go 5 innings.
Yeah – he’s missing the word last.
What have they done for their teams lately. We have a worn out bunch down there. Loup is our top (middle relief) dawg at the moment and that’s scary
Billys happy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMh3utpqfaY
World class nickname though – The Dominator!
Stupid f@cking trade.
I’m pretty sure that Jackson needed to be added to 40 man this off-season anyway or be subject to rule 5 draft.
I was wondering if that was behind this trade…
Golly, wasn’t Jackson one of our good prospects?
I suppose he wasn’t as highly rated lately.
Really feels like an overpay.
Good grief!!!!!
Everyone knows the name Jeremiah Jackson, his actual prospect profile doesn’t match the name recognition.
That’s not the point. The concern is we acquired dumpster-level return for the limited prospect capital we have.
This the best RP the Platypus could acquire for a playoff run?
Jackson is a career .245 hitter in the minor leagues. It appears that the Angels gave up on him. Though, I agree that this could have been a waiver wire pick up.
Thanks for this … I haven’t really been paying attention to him. But still.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=jackso009jer
He’s one of several of those raw, young athletic Eppler guys that were once Top 5/Top 10 prospects for the Angels that lost their shine as the years went on and no meaningful progression clicked in.
He hit .215 last year. Repeated AA and has hit .248 so far. Really long swing and strikes out a lot.
I saw him in the spring and questioned the hype then. Hasn’t done much at AA this year either. Happy to bet that his departure won’t be second guessed a few years from now.
Exactly 1 player (Ohtani) in our lineup who was opening day projected starter. Crazy.
Good point, but I think it’s 2: Renfroe.
Good point…missed him
And Rengifo, according to BBRef.
I don’t think Rengifo was projected to be the opening day starter, but did start because of the injury to Walsh ( Drury played 1B that day).
C’mon, we have 22% of our opening days starters playing today !!!
Correction. 33%, don’t forget Rengifo, please.
The people at MLBTR are going to go home tonight and sleep 12 hours.
Today is to MLBTR as April 15 is to accountants.
Okay, let’s get to the first pitch in 1 hour and 18 minutes.
Onward & upward. I like your style.

A trade!
Yay! Perry did something!
OK, now who is Leone?
I was googling as you wrote this
We gave up the rest of the Panda pitching staff…..thats too much.
Is he good? I have no idea.
I need to look him up…LOL
He’s given up 7 homers in 30 and 2/3 innings. Not the sort of guy you want in high-leverage situations. Perhaps Perry thinks he’s had a run of bad luck.
He is another arm.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/leonedo01.shtml
Oh shit! We did get another arm!
4.40 ERA, 1.24 WHIP
Well, I guess he’s an arm….and another potential contestant for the IR list.
Inherited runner list?
Looking….
He was used primarily in low leverage situations
He’s about as effective as Loup is.
why?
Pineapple has a Perry-hotline. He asked and Perry listened.
Billy selling all his shit…before he moves
In Jeremiah Jackson it sounds like he’s re-acquiring his draft picks
“ANALYSIS
Leone’s overall numbers don’t look great, but he’s pitched to a 1.80 ERA over his last 12 appearances dating back to late June. The 31-year-old right-hander figures to slide into a middle-relief role with the all-in Halos.“
source?
RotoWire, so…🤷♂️
FWIW, I guess
Rodriguez c-blocking the Doyers is the highlight of the day.
Yep! Was bummed we didn’t get another pitcher but this totally made my day!
We got Sierra Leone
Just saw!
What about Tea?
We could have Madam Secretary on our team.
I guess young be slightly less bummed because we acquired a mid-tier reliever in the final seconds.
So did we trade Ohtani, Giolito, Grichuk, Cron, Renfroe, Estevez, Moore, Moose, and others to the Dodgers for their entire farm system just before the deadline like I was hoping?
just kidding don’t ban me
always a couple of a straggler trade announcements after the deadline.
DEADLINE
Cease did not get moved. Dodgers were rumored to attempt to get Cease after they were declined from Eduardo Rodriguez.
1 min to go
time.gov says it’s 9 seconds ago.
https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1686496293592432640?s=20
BEST MOVE EVER!-Jeff Passin’Gass
Meh?
But with Judge coming back front runners for winning it all…
-EaStsPiNn
That way, Cashman can say he was involved with a trade for his press conference.
PERRY, WE NEED ANOTHER RELIEVER
Should we trade Sandy away as part of a package for an upgrade?
Or stay pat with our starters as they are?
5 minutes to go.
Whatever the case, we have 5 minutes to do so.
