The Angels went down south to Georgia with a brand new offense. Grichuk and Cron were back on the Angels and looked to solve the RISP issue. Meanwhile, Chase Silseth was on the mound as Canning hurt himself, somehow. Chase went 5 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 4 and walking none. He could have gone more, but he was not allowed to.
So, what about those 2 prodigal Angels? Well, they went a combined 2-9 with a home run. 1 single with RISP though. While it finally snapped the 0-fer streak with RISO, the Angels in general were horrible with RISP yet again. All 3 home runs were solo shots and they had left 10 LOB.
Lopez, the other pitcher in the trade with the White Sox had a 5 out save as well!
Highlighted Recap
Luis Rengifo hit a leadoff home run to start the game.
Then, in the 4th, Randal Grichuk hit his first home run as an Angel and the first by #15 since 2006.
Chase held the Braves in check until the 5th when he allowed solo shot.
But they got that back right away with a Gigachad bomb.
Ohtani hit one a long way aaaaand was robbed of a home run.
Cj Cron, in the 9th, finally got a hit with RISP.
The Bullpen had 4 innings of shutout ball. Soriano, Loup, and Lopez. Angels WIn!
Upcoming
2 more games in Atlanta. With the trade deadline tomorrow, who knows what this team can look like by Wednesday?
With all the recent trades and acquisitions of players from various teams across the US, Arte will need to change the name of the team to The Los Angels Mongrels of Anaheim.
JP Crawford saves Mariners from Red Sux with a fantastic play to catch Masataka Yoshida’s screaming line drive that would have at least scored two run.
Good news: Red Sux is only 0.5 game ahead of Angels.
Bad news: Mariners are creeping up only 0.5 game behind Angels.
AL West division race is not yet over for 4 teams.
Mariners went 17-9 in July, undoubtedly one of the hottest teams in baseball.
We have to find a way to split the next 2 in ATL and take the series. Which will set us up for another “series of the season” with Seattle on Thursday.
That’s why I’m kind of surprised JeDi waved the white flag early.
But hey, maybe this is all a stealth plan to reload on prospects while making the playoffs/ Jedi move.
he didn’t wave the white flag tho. They are insanely deep in the bullpen and are trading from a position of strength to bolster other parts of their team.
Furthest thing from giving up honestly. They are playing great ball.
According to what I read in MLBTR, Sewald was traded to DBacks because of surplus of relief pitchers in Mariners and in need for strong bat in Josh Rojas and Dominic Canzone. So, I don’t think it is the white flag yet. Also, it is of note that they traded Sewald to NL team, not to division rivals or AL East teams.
Josh Rojas’s Strong Bat? 😂 😂 😂
Now he will mash 3 homers against us
What a win, Cron and Grichuk immediately come through! As I said earlier, WS preview. Come on I can’t be the only one who felt it.
Now let’s get the damn sweep. And come late October I don’t need Smoltz and the other announcers saying this is a completely different Braves team than the one that got swept by the Angels in late July, almost 3 months ago. No I don’t need those standard talking points. How the Braves were only 30 over by August 1 but that was then this is now, no we don’t need that shit! But it’s ok will make for better odds when bet on angels to gentleman’s sweep them in the Series
Sweep ?
😂 😆
I’d be pretty happy splitting the next two
Agree. That would be awesome.
But even if we lost the final two games we’re now guaranteed a winning road trip at 5-4.
With the amount of injuries we have to impact players that is damn impressive.
One of those stats you look back on after we the WS. Gutsy team baby
Also remember that the teams we played were supposed to kill us
Soooooo, what’s the skinny on Canning? Just a bit fatigued during the dog days of Summer (best case) or is it the precursor to TJ Surgery next week (worst case) ????
One note of concern here beyond Canning is the thud of Mickey Moniak crashing back to earth. It’s fair to say that he’s started every game for a month straight so perhaps fatigue is setting in a bit here as well. Hopefully it’s only that. Grichuk was a solid pickup even without Ward on the IL.
Trout has apparently reached “dry swing” status. I presume machine BP could be next week? You hamate experts can chime in here.
A dry swing is when you sip a martini in between hacks
I’m partial to a dirty, nay, very dirty, martini myself.
I can’t remember if her name was Martini, but I agree
Shaken, not stirred.
Expecting Mickey Moniak to continue producing at a MVP clip thru September was never realistic. He needs to watch some tape and relax, he’ll be fine. Slumps are a part of the game we love.
Canning’s body is probably barking a bit after not pitching this many innings in a long time. I wouldn’t mind throwing him on the IL and let Silseth get a few more starts.
Mike Trout dry swings make me wet. I can’t make until Trouty takes those wet swings 💦💦💦
Needs software update
Mickey Windows 2.0 update scheduled for tomorrow.
Someone sneaking Slump Buster tonight into Mickey Mouse’s bedroom? Hopefully, it does not exceed Disney’s G rating.
Let’s dispatch this one to help Mickey:
I believe she would be mighty helpful for Mickey to concentrate on swinging for the strike zone only, not wasting time to tease her with anything outside the zone. After all, he is only 25 years old; we just have to let him learn on his own. 😅
I want to give credit where credit is due – that was a well-managed game by Nevin. From pulling Silseth when he did (even though he was only at 60+ pitches), putting Soriano to go more than one inning, having Loup face the bottom of the order, and sticking with Reynaldo rather than being tempted with a “fresh” Webb. It was a clean game all around, and against a very good team which will not give you any room for errors.
So kudos to Phil.
It is nice to have 2 reliable closers.
Reynaldo was a great pickup … Everyone was talking about Giolito but Lopez was the hidden gem in that deal !
He hit 101!
Yep.
And everyone went crazy when we had Joyce do that.
I sure went crazy watching Lopez!
Was Charlie unavailable?
Tonight ? I would assume so … he pitched two innings yesterday.
He pitched 2 innings yesterday, so according to Jeff Fletcher’s X, Estevez had a red light, which means he was not available.
Do you believe now ??
I never stopped.
LIGHT THAT BIG F’ING BABY UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!
😇😇😇😇😇😇
Many of us have been called Polyanna or rainbow farter – being bullied into negativity by Team Doom.
Let’s celebrate but skip the chest pounding or self-congratulations: We’re still on the outside looking in.
I thought I was a team of one, once Grandpa fell off
You know I love you DD, but respectfully I’m going to celebrate. This has nothing to do with the doomers here, Twitter or anywhere else.
We just beat down the best team in baseball in their house, pretty f’ing convincingly with our #7 SP and without our starting CF, 2B, 3B, and C. Not mentioning our top 2 bullpen arms were unavailable tonight.
I know what I believe in and I don’t need to thrust my convictions on anyone else.
That was a damn good win. I’m enjoying it.
Our #7 just pitched like a #1 against a VERY good offensive team. I still don’t believe it, Silseth just crossed a major threshold. Now if he can stretch that pitching out over 7 innings, 108 pitches, then he can become an elite status pitcher and garner the contract that comes with it.
almost all the Doomers are also Pollyannas, depending on whatever happens in any contest.
Once everyone realizes Perry is the Albert Einstein of baseball GMs, there will be no doomers left.
Kidding aside, it’s somewhat of a full circle moment watching Perry’s Angels go up against his mentor, Alex Anthopoulos’, Braves. I truly believe we are in fantastic hands with Perry running the show, and his moves in the last 12 months should validate that sentiment.
You rainbow farters are ok in my book. Takes all kinds to make a fandom work! Too doomy and people would start wandering off cliffs, too farty and everyone would become diabetic and lose a foot.
This is the way, haha!
🔥 🔥
Luis Rengifo. The leadoff hitter we needed, but didn’t know we had? Perhaps.
Our BP looks pretty damn strong again when you can mix & match Lopez with Moore, Soriano and The Most Interesting Man In The World. Bachman makes it deeper yet.
Silseth – No walks today. Went after an excellent Atlanta lineup.
11-5 since the All-Star Break.
They called me crazy for being a Renfuego fan 😭😭😭
I’m not as intelligent as Perry, but I know ball lol. LFGGGGG
Love his Defense. 🤣🤪
Looked pretty damn solid tonight lol
All he needed was little benching .
Sure did. You’re a regular nostradamus
🤣
😖
He’s always been a “toolsy” player which is why the club has held onto him. Oh,
and he’s always available.
Let’s keep the good times
rollin’…..
Excellent win! Very impressive
According to Erica Weston’s postgame interview with Grichuk, he didn’t know what Kabuto was. Obviously the manual that they read on the flight from Denver to Atlanta did not include the explanation of Kabuto. Someone messed up.
Someone fill him on Shufflebot too.
This Shufflebot Eve we got to open 3 gifts…Cron, Grichuk and Lopez
Shufflebot > Kabuto
I must admit Shufflebot is much more fun to look at than piece of metallic art.
Yea someone dropped the ball there. Needed to be in part 1 of the manual. team rules , etiquette and superstitions right next to the whole deal about no one being allowed to get a hit with the bases loaded.
End of July Haiku
When the leaves turn brown.
Angel baseball still in town.
Playoffs, yes, playoffs.
We actually ended the month of July with >0.500 with 12W-11L. Yey!
Farewell young prospects
Jack says we don’t need you all
He’s sure we’ll be fine
To be accurate, I didn’t say “we don’t need them,” but what I did do was support the recent trades based upon where the team is at THIS particular place and time. With the talent we currently have in place, and especially the Othani predicament it makes all the sense in the world. It is time to end the playoff drought !!!
Yeah, I know, but I couldn’t resist for fun…
New guys making an immediate impact. Welcome back to the Angels C.J. Cron & Randal Grichuk. Reynaldo Lopez is a beast that can be a Setup man or Closer when Estevez is unavailable. Shout-out to Chase Silseth for holding the Braves to 1 run along with the rest of the Bullpen. Go Halos, keep it rolling.
Does Perry have any last minute moves?
Ah yes that tomahawk swing by C.J. for the rbi single brought all of those old Angel memories flooding back to me.
Ah the mammaries
You are ‘busted’ for your Daddy jokes, sir. 😃
Nothing a manzier cant help him fix.
It’s a BRO!
Angels win, Yankees and Blue Jays lose, good day.
And maybe the jays lost Bo Bichette
Say it aint So Bo.
Oh wow. Just read the report. He stopped running and grabbed his knee. That sounds somewhere between bad and very bad.
Blue Jays will be looking for SS, less than 24 hours until deadline.
Maybe it’s just a little calf strain
Is that a Trout reference?
Bingo
It really doesn’t hit you how scary the Braves are until you play them. You don’t want to face the number 9 hitter anymore than you want to face Acuña
We just did face them and came out victorious.
Perry for President Phil manager of the year.
(Kidding, guys!!! )
That was the 2009 Angels *cough*300lineup*cough*.
Also the mid-2000’s MFY
Orioles win!
3 games back!
right now we should aim division
Of course I will take that too!
Silseth has been sent down I believe twice this year; he comes back the real deal! With 7 players who are still shaking hands. 😂
