MLB fandom is gradually getting younger as both rule changes and engaging the yutes are both having an effect. The Orioles, though, went another way. They optioned their youth Jackson Holliday down to Triple-A.
Anthony Rendon has a small tear in his hamstring and will be out of action for quite a while. The Angels selected Zac Kristofak and placed Jose Cisnero on the 15 IL with right shoulder inflammation. They also designated Jimmy Herget for assignment.
The Phillies designated Ricardo Pinto for assignment. He’s bad at pitching. The White Sox selected Brad Keller and designated Deivi Garcia for assignment. The Red Sox designated Joely Rodriguez for assignment.
Wade Miley is the latest pitcher to have Tommy John surgery. Avisail Garcia went on the ten day IL with a left hamstring strain.

Angels need to shore up the pen. Start scanning rosters and make a move. Rosenberg could come up and be a swing man, long relief. Suarez needs a complement or flat out replacement. I think the offense, while struggling has potential.
Someone has probably already posted the lineup, but man, this is interesting. Desperate & interesting.
Adell in the 2 hole. Angels front ending our true power hitters. I like the element of Speed & Power at 1-2.
WTF is a Cole Tucker?
Someone put out missing persons report on Drury. Geez.
Huge hitting problems at DH and 3B. Drury was a big league hitter the past couple of years at least. I guess that they don’t want Moniak to bat at all against lefties. Schaneul should be in there even against lefties. Dumping Hicks was a good move but the organizational depth is appalling.
You don’t want to know about Cole Tucker.
…..
I really thought they’d ride Hicks a bit longer. Jo Adell the RF job is yours to lose…
I will make a bold prediction: The Halos will not lose every day this week.
FUNNY GUY
I’d rather have Moniak on the field – I think his defense is better than Adell’s – and have Adell get most of the DH at-bats, save for the Trout/Ward DH days. I’m not ready to give up on Moniak yet. From what I saw last year, he seems to be a rhythm hitter, and he hasn’t had the chance to play a lot of consecutive games yet to get that rhythm. I’d rather the team see what they have in Moniak as an everyday player, rather than trying to rotate through fringe bargain bins once again, for whom there’s no incentive to see through (i.e. Hicks).
But I do appreciate them rolling out Adell in the field – it’s the only way he’ll improve his defense and fielding. We’ll suffer through the occasional blunders, but this is part of the “play the kids” mantra that a lot of people want anyway.
The Angels aren’t making the playoffs this season, so as long as Adell is hitting well enough to stay on the team, they might as well play Adell in the field to let him improve.
Agree. The fact that Hicks is absorbing at bats that should be going to Adell AND Moniak is unfortunate. And stupid, particularly since Hicks isn’t hitting well anyway
well, He Gone!
lol
Anyone want to copy and pasta the Kristofak Athletic article btw? Someone I wouldn’t have mined rooting for and hoping he gets another chance (he should!!) with us.
I would like some baked mostaccioli
Steve Martin character, “I’ll take half a decaf with half-n-half.”
🤣
“I’ll have a lemon twist!”
AARON HICKS IS GONE
LETS GOOOOOOO

This is at least some progress. Daniel might be decent. I know nothing about Cole Tucker though.
He’s our DH tonight. Played 5 games for Colorado last year, a career .216 hitter
Also a career OBP of .266 and career Slugging percentage of .318. Thats a Schanuel slugger right there.
I’d rather watch Jordyn Adams. Why didn’t we just keep Trey Cabbage.
because he was a human circulating fan. I think Trey had to hit rock bottom and get away from this organization before he decided to abandon the big swing exaggerated step for the toe tap.
Cabbage almost killed one of our pitchers
True
Yes, I’d rather see someone who came up through our system than another Perry journeyman pickup
If they are hitting below the mendoza line or close to it, do you bring them up or go the journeyman?
Was a huge Adams fan, no longer. Has struggled to make the transition to baseball and make consistent plays. That’s ok, own it Angels.
You mean Tucker with a career OPS of .584 in 475 MLB PA’s?
How is this any better than Ehire?
Are we at least going to get a Vanessa Hudgens sighting?!
Sure. I guess thats an upgrade over Tiger Woods Niece.
Oh snap. Reminds me of when Georgia Frontiere had her minions in STL draft Denzel Washington’s son just so she could meet up with Denzel.
Would have been happier if it was Suarez but Hicks will do.
You’re a weird dude. You jump on a train (any) while simultaneously shitting all over someone else’s (Rendon, Hicks). The repetitive daily nature of it is exhausting.
This game sees far more failure than success. Once or twice, I’ll give you a thumbs up/comment… but same on the other end, just w/o the thumb up. Take a break or get a different take. Also not sure why you’re yelling. We know your opinion. Appreciate the link tho 😘
*Employing the it’s ok to have an opinion of an opinion in the CtPG bylaws*
Please feel free to have one on mine.
All good brotha.
Not sure if you’ve noticed, but I havent been trying to fight with you on the internet recently. I take responsibility in escalating our online kerfuffle. I certainly apologize.
If you think I’m a weird dude, all good. I think I’m a weird dude too!
We’re grown adults, I don’t care about continuing a back-and-forth bitch session anymore. If you wanna talk Halos ball with me, I’m down. If you don’t, that’s okay too.
For a final time, I’m sorry.
Genuinely hope that suffices. Life is too short to keep on with this lol.
Cool? Cool! 🙂
I don’t think any back and forth we’ve had has been fighting. So nothing to apologize for, I enjoy the cup checks. Keep doing you and feel free to call me out!
As someone who has shit on Rendon in previous years (and rightfully got called out with ‘what has he done, kicked your dog’ replies) I know I can improve on my diatribes at times. I’ve crapped on Trouts leadership, not just in the clubhouse but in things that have happened in his personal life. And you know what, he might be a big part in the ‘stay in the game’ campaigns I see on Bally Sports West. I watch other broadcasts and can tell you they much rather pimp out gambling links than Jesus washed feet commercials. I know he has a few different things going to honor his late BIL and still gets emotional talking about it. So I’ve been wrong plenty of times. I don’t need to beat my chest for things that have gone wrong/right.
You were (ST) and have been for Sano and I saw him make an outstanding defensive play during Wednesdays day game. He hits the ball hard too! And I did think of you and am happy anytime one of our players does well/a shot called on the interwebs is right. We just don’t need 10+ laughing emojis for when one of ours goes down (no matter how unliked they may be) or shout it from the rooftops if someone loses their job.
You’re a good contributor around here and I’m always down to talk Halos or baseball in general. My bad if I come across as a dick, I’m a recovering asshole.
WOW.
I didn’t think the Hicks DFA would happen this early, this fast. When doing my preseason predictions, I had Hicks pegged as a trade chip come July for a middling prospect.
Where does Perry get these guys. Nothing personel, but Cole tucker is 27 and a former pirate who has been in the majors about as long as Jo Adell with about 175 fewer ABs. He is less than replacement level with a 57 career OPS+ and negative WAR. We literally don’t have enough of our own drafted minor league players to fill out our roster. We really have absolutely no organizational position player depth.
It enables Adams to get steady ABs down on the farm.
Action shot of Perry and Crapino in search of players.
Caught in the act.
Total 15 win boost!!!!
Some good news today.
Davis Daniel has an ERA of 8.10, an OPS against of .940 and a WHIP of 2.10 in his last 4 AAA starts . I would be shocked that he will provide any improvement but what the hell.
$50.00 Eppei Bucks. Give me Danny D over Suarez, pitching line, over the next 3 innings.
Hicks gone is good but he was dumped in the midst of a cold streak. Some hitters just get into funks but rather see Moniak face RH than Hicks.
How did we even win ten?
Miami
Its a murracle.
over at mlb dot com there’s an article about Kristofak that says he was called up because of our depleted relief situation. Now I’m wondering is that because of injuries? Cisnero, I guess, but does one injury makes the staff depleted? Or is it because we have to have so many long relief outings? Probably that. Maybe.
It’s going to be a tornado of relief moves this season. Stephenson was the only reliable option via talent. He’s gone. Estevez can close ok but that’s it. The rest is just a bunch of lower tier guys — some coming off prior injuries. Moore is ok as a lefty who can pitch a couple times a week. The rest is a crapshoot.
https://theathletic.com/5455390/2024/04/29/brandon-marsh-returns-angels-phillies-trade/
Interesting article about Marsh if you can get beyond the paywall where he essentially says the culture is much better in Philadelphia, which has allowed him to succeed more as a player.
“Here, we have a plan. A process. We know who’s hitting. We know who’s going to play.”
If that’s not an indictment of the entire organization, not just Perry, nor the manager, nor the coaches, I don’t know what is.
Agree 💯
I was at the meetup Saturday. As much fun as it was meeting the people behind the goofy screen names, that game so absolutely stank on ice that I really have trouble getting motivated for another Halos game. Been an Angels fan for about 47 years, and I am as close to giving up on them as I ever have.
D’Backs or Padres meetup instead?
Padres, especially one one of the Beerfest nights. Party in the Tony Gwynn park beyond center field. $5 craft beers 90min before game! Most of the local Beer brewers participate.
I’m in! Love that park too.
I hear you. I’ve been a fan since the 80’s and this is the first time I’m kind of losing interest in baseball, which makes me feel sad inside to type out here, especially because it is April, and each year I’m so excited when spring comes and a new season is starting.
In the past, we’ve had some crumby teams, but somehow I’ve always had the hope that we’d catch fire and win a bunch and have an exciting season, and even if we missed the playoffs I’d see exciting building blocks being developed.
But now I just see a crumby team and I don’t think the owner really gives a hoot. I think the team could toil like this for more years. Or if he does give a hoot, his philosophy for building a good team is totally disconnected from reality, and isn’t working, and it doesn’t look like he is realizing that.
I just know that I came to the realization the other night that I need to notch down my expectations and excitement. Because I would get into a cycle where I’d see the game, get frustrated, come on this site and vent and/or read the venting of others, and then rinse and repeat the next night. I don’t need that cycle of negativity in my mind every day. I think I’ll transition to more of laughing it off and not caring anymore.
Honestly, it is likely, given how some of our ’90s teams were so stinky, that I used to just experience baseball like that as a norm. But I got spoiled with the domination of our 2000’s teams that I came to expect it, and forgot how to be an Angels fan.
I think we can safely say that Arte has no plans, no philosophy for building a good team. He doesn’t make the connection that winning is the best way to get fans into the stadium. Sad, I know.
I have loved the Angels since my first game with my dad in 1971.
That said, I’m much older and wiser now and realize I can love the Angels and have such disdain and disrespect for the Org that I just put my diehard fanship to the side. I can’t invest emotionally in an Org that is so poorly run at all levels and in every way. I still love the Angels but I can separate that emotion from the realities that it’s not worth getting emotionally invested at this time. If different ownership emerges, I’ll reconsider reconnecting to the avid level I was before.
I’ve been a fan since opening day in 1961 and I’m feeling much the same way. Not only is the team bad now, but there seems to be no path to a productive future, and now I’m an old guy, not a seven year old kid.
I was at the game. Walked by section 201 during 6th inn wearing CA jersey 25 Edmonds. I don’t know anyone but definitely saw a bunch of people with nothing to cheer or smile about. If the game was closer I would have sat in an empty seat with the group. Worst game I’ve ever seen live.
Stick it out. I am exactly at 47 years (declared my loyalty during the 1976 season). Arte cannot stay forever and better times will happen sometime in the future which will make sticking it out worth it.
Wow.
I was reasonably young in 2002. Shortly afterwards, “Moneybags” Arte took over, and we signed Colon, Vlad, Kelvim, etc., and I had it in my mind that the team was going to be big contenders throughout most of my adult life (“Yankees of the west”). Gee, that didn’t exactly pan out. 😁
At least I enjoyed really good years during the 2000’s.
Ron Washington turns 72 today.
Happy Birthday!
My gift to Wash, another predictable L.
Fans: Forget Ohtani! and don’t do anything stupid on Free Agents, especially pitchers! Play the kids! and don’t let Rendon anywhere near the line-up!
Angels: 10-18
Who?
Who’s on first
Bo knows
Who are we going to call up when Sano’s knee inflammation turns into Tommy John? We can’t keep rolling Rengifo or EHire out there. Maybe we can trade with the Padres for EGuy, in essence hire a new guy.
if we can just hold on till June to the college draft, i’m sure we can find a ready-made MLB player that’s currently playing in some small college in the southeast US
I wonder if there’s anyone on this Board who could step in.
I play 3rd base on my softball team. The problem I’d have at the major league level would be making the throw to first. I’d have to Eck it…you know, kind of the way Eckstein made the play at shortstop. It would still look like a lob, though.
I’ve had my eye on you for a long time, although I’ve previously thought of you as a managerial candidate. Maybe you could be player/manager.
My son plays a pretty good 3rd base , but he wouldn’t be ready for major league pitching.
Just like a couple of guys currently on the roster, or they’ve probably moved into the category of no longer able to hit major league pitching.
If Suarez can go 2 or 3 innings twice a week, I can go 1 a couple times a week.
But I’m not on the 40 man roster.
The college will be the Fight’en something-somethings…
So when are the City Connect Jerseys coming out. I want to see them lose in style. Also, just picked up a Trout CA Angels Jersey. Looks really nice
They reworked them, City
ConnectIn Decline Jerseys.Noting says lose in style like a City Connect Rendon jersey ;-|
Nothing to see here folks, keep moving….
“>
The good news is that the Angels are about as good as the Houston Astros.
Unfortunately that will likely not be the case by the end of the season.
or the end of this week….possibly tomorrow night
Such good news indeed.
Glancing at W-L percentages and 10-23 would be equivalent to 6-14.
We’re currently 10-18.
We’re missing a few players from the 6-14 team.
By that logic, 48-112 would be equivalent to 6-14 as well so should this be a goal?
The point is, going 6-14 once out of a 20 game stretch does not kill your season if you play .600 baseball from that point forward. But doing it more than once in a season does not bode well.
Tongue & cheek comments are completely lost on you.
I am not seeing much humor in this season or in this team or in this Org. Its such a mess. That said, I do appreciate cheekiness for sure and, in that light, I see what you were doing there.
You pretty much have to laugh at this point.
Or play a sad song….and collect the tears from the saddest Donkey, and drink them. Coincidence the Titanic sunk in April too?
https://youtu.be/uffHb6JgoiQ?si=BtH95qmRxHxT9zZp
Now that I’m not investing my hard earned money into this Org, I do find more humor for sure.
Proving once again, boycotts don’t work. 😀
As bad as the White Sox are, do you Angels have two pitchers who are better than Garrett Crochet and Erick Fedde. Maybe Detmers is in their tier, but I think we need to be realistic about how bad our starting pitching is compared to the worst team in baseball.
I also noticed they got rid of the halo for now. It’s a better idea to use it when you have a winning record, no point ina losing team celebrating that much.
I agree
When the TEAM is not winning, crap like the antlers or halo are just focusing on individual accomplishments.
I immediately thought it looked like a light up toilet seat and not a halo.
Perfect metaphor.
I’d prefer they’d bring it out for well-executed situational hitting or for a pitcher getting out of a jam caused by bad fielding or umping, or keeping us close after a starter was removed.
