Whats the general sentiment around here about trading Ohtani, personally I think they let a team that would never normally be able to afford him that is in contention overpay in prospects for him. Like the Reds.
I would be beyond shocked if the Reds would want to even entertain the notion of trading for a 3 month rental despite their new found success . Why would you want to mess up what they got going right now ?
They need a frontline starter which typically seems how you win in the playoffs. When you have a shot as a lower income team I really think you have to take it. I’d take like Lodolo/Abbott/ and a few of their position prospects. That puts the reds in a better position to win this year for sure.
“Nolan Schanuel was someone I had to talk myself into and I’m still very iffy on the profile, especially high in the first round”
Meanwhile his take on my guy Shaw:
“Matt Shaw is maybe the best pure hitter in this class with a wood bat track record to build that confidence, I don’t think he’s a shortstop but you can have a lot of faith in the MLB profile here”
I just don’t understand why Perry would select him on just 2023 stats. I like the position he plays but seems like the first reach thus far after 13 picks.
Longenhagen (Fangraphs), who I do trust, had him at #33. And Longenhagen was super bullish on Neto last year (as I was).
“Schanuel has less raw pop than is typical of a first baseman. He is similar to Washington State alum Kyle Manzardo, a hit-tool driven first base prospect who is likely to hit enough to play a big league role, and maybe even make so much contact to buck trends and be a regular without huge power.”
Angels draft Stanford third baseman Alberto Rios in the second round.
He played catcher, outfield, and infield for Stanford but was announced as a third baseman by the Angels.

Love the Boos the Astros got. Manfred was looking confused as if they were for him.
I bet St Louis turns Chase Davis into something special.
2002
Are you preparing the headshots of all these draftees to plaster on this site in 5 years saying we could have drafted…?
Don’t encourage or dare him!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Especially the ones drafted before The Angels pick.

Thats what they should do, but you know they wont. Can you imagine a De La Cruz/ Neto middle of the infield?
Never happen.
yea no way we’d get him. They have more than enough talent to make it happen though.

That is my hope. That someone fun like Tampa sees it as a super impactful rental and doesn’t care that they won’t re-sign him.
At this point not trading him is criminal. He should do the organization a favor and request the trade himself.
Willing to bet heavily Nolan signs for well under slot and we pay well over slot for someone tomorrow.
Only thing that makes sense.
trAdition
Draft a lesser player high in the first round to save money for over slot draft selections later.
hate it.
Bet the house on that one JJ.
I’m really liking the LSU coach.
Sign the whole LSU coaching staff!
And Medical Staff!
and that gymnast, olivia dunne
bruh she’s 20 lol chill
It’s LSU, College of Champions
Even Taylor Blake Ward is sour on this selection:

Wait until Sam writes about it….
Maybe we can be lucky like the NE Patriots with Tom Brady or the Denver Nuggets with Jukola Jokic is this what we’re doing?
That’s what every team would like to do
Shaw look good, Angels could have used this guy, tomorrow
He was my guy. I think Troy may get to the MLB first, and I like him a lot, but Shaw was top of my board.
With the selection of Neto last year, I thought that might have told us what kind of make-up they prefer, Shaw
Total familiarity bias but I liked Troy from Stanford.
Probably a second baseman.
Neto – Troy keystone would’ve been cool.
Longenhagen had Neto as Troy’s comp. If the Angels wanted a contact hitter, they should have definitely gone Troy over Schanuel.
He seems to walk a lot and not strike out much. That is a good start. Who knows?
College bat ✅
We will see – there’s a lot to like 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
He just has no position, and was badly overmatched when he hit with wood bats on the Cape.
yeah, but other than that he’s a good pick
I just don’t understand why Perry would select him on just 2023 stats. I like the position he plays but seems like the first reach thus far after 13 picks.
CBS Sports ranks him as the 26th best prospect so we took him at 11. But what does anyone there know?

Repeat: 2nd rounder in the 1st round
Getting more depressed…
yea that sounds like an awfully bad take for a guy they just took at 11
Good Gawd…….Matt Thaiss 2.0
Are we gonna use him to get rid Rendon?
That long backside on his swing also reminds me of Thaiss.
Hard not to feel like not having a 2nd rounder probably had them looking for under-slot guys so they can overspend in the 3rd+ rounds
^this^
we won’t know if any of these picks are good for awhile. I’m neutral on every pick including Skenes and Schanuel
Probably a sane perspective to have.
Several players I preferred above this guy, obviously.
I think even Kyle Teel is likely a better hitter than this guy if he were placed at 1B.
Couldn’t the Angels draft better if they just used MLB Pipeline? Save all the money on scouts.
They sure had a bunch of people in their draft room
Arte’s college friends had a lot of sons.
😂 😆
Dollander was off the board, so we got the fall back.
Wil Wilson 2.0?
I’d go with Longenhagen’s board over MLB pipeline – he was big on Tommy Troy btw.
Select: “Auto-Draft”

From the deep 2023 draft we get Tyler Anderson and this first baseman. Wow.
That’s a long swing.
Sure is. Did not hit well in Cape Cod league either.
Guys don’t get mad, this is just the guy they are sending with Rendon for a 27 year old reliever in AA with a “live arm”
Nope – send with Rendon plus 80 million to the Giants – á la Will Wilson
