I like Denzer Guzman probably more than I should based on results, but man I dislike Grissom way more than I probably should based on results. He comes across as an arrogant POS that think’s he’s actually a solid everyday baseball player when he’s barely hanging on to a roster spot. He has no defensive value anywhere and he’s never going to hit as much as is required of a DH.

He’s a bench player on any decent team. He doesn’t run well, and as you said, is a defensive liability. He’s dead average as a hitter. So he’s not 30% below average which is why he looks good compared to some of our other players.
I think Guzman needs to play 3B every day if Neto is still here, and SS if he isn’t to see if he is a major league hitter. And that will likely have to happen in 2028. With the labor dispute, 2028 will likely have to be a year of evaluation for possibly Raudi, Monroe, Guzman, and possibly others. In the mean time we will be wasting great pitching, which is why we should trade both Neto and Detmers. It will be 29 or 30 before we see something significantly different than what we see now.

winning teams think in terms of postseasons not whole seasons. We can try next year, see how things go with some FA additions and addition through subtraction of honestly some of the worst players in baseball and then still get probably close to the same haul as we would have otherwise. Lots of owners would almost rather have players just for the postseason as they don’t have to pay their salary for the entire year.

Yes lots of money to spend. Get one of the catchers (Stephenson/Jeffers), get Morejon, get Bauers. And honestly I just now thought about it and I think Arraez makes perfect sense for the Angels. Play him everyday against RHP with Nolan at 1B, play him everyday against LHP at 1B with Moore at 2B.

My question is the same as last year. What is going to be different. Even with the best starting pitching for the last 2 months, it made no difference. Even with Meck hitting .300 and both Trout and Neto having solid seasons, what will change to drive us toward a different outcome. You can’t just run the same players out there. Obviously there are a lot of organizational changes that will have to take place first.

I think we can look at things differently. From a purely run differential perspective the Angels are nearly as bad as their record indicates. That is with them having one of the worst defenses which can be improved and getting basically no offense from DH/Corner OF/2B/3B/ and Catcher. Replace O’Hoppe and Moises with Jeffers, that’s a big upgrade. Replace Frazier/Peraza with a Arraez/Moore platoon that could be a big upgrade. Replace everyday Nolan with him only facing Righties who he hits so much better that’s a big upgrade. Replace Lowe with Bauers that is a MASSIVE upgrade. Replace our worst reliever with Morejon that is a MASSIVE upgrade. Combined with the division next year probably still not being all that great. Angels have the potential for a very nice rotation, you have a good SP every night you are in every game. Angels this year lose because they have guys playing that should be selling insurance and their bullpen other than for a one month stretch has been abysmal, but bullpens are traditionally the easiest thing to fix.

plus you get players on short term deals you can flip them for prospects at the deadline. I don’t think Bauers/Arraez/Jeffers/Stephenson are going to make major bank. Morejon is but that guy has been one of the best relievers in baseball for awhile now.

when in the last 15 years did we have a rotation with prime Detmers, and Wally and actual SP depth. The Angels pythag record this year is like 72 wins, their baseruns win total is expected at 73. If you start with that as a base and get Jeffers/Morejon/Bauers/Arraez and keep in mind they are replacing complete trash, then I think it’s totally realistic to get their record into the 80’s.

I have no idea what is going to happen. I tend to be rather conservative about what I believe needs to happen or will happen. I have huge dreams as well and I don’t mean to squash the dreams of others. I believe in the long run that things will get much better. I think this could very well be true. KSE isn’t in charge yet and new CBA will either be still negotated or in effect. If still in negotiation KSE will have to fall in line with all the other owners, most likely I think.
KSE has to figure out a FO and how/where to build a stadium and pay for it. I don’t think they will come in and spend $1b like Guggenheim.

I don’t disagree. The team could improve substantially if you could get Trout out of CF and replace him with a plus defender who could provide some offense, get a 2B who is a plus defender with a little offense, Same at catcher, and maybe a RF with a little punch. That and rebuild the bullpen could get you into an 80s win total. How much do you think Arozarena will cost and will he settle for 3 years. We need 3-4 of those guys.
