Blown Out Postgame

Victor Mederos pitched today.

Inning 1: Nothing.

Inning 2: A Cubs leadoff hit followed by “shoulda’ been double play” throwing error by Zach Neto. Victor Mederos worked his way out of the inning with a pop up and a strikeout. The Angels were retired in order on five pitches.

Inning 3: Mederos was cruising but he gave up a two out double to the right field corner to Michael Busch. Kyle Tucker homered to right with authority. 2-0 Cubs. The Angels did nothing of note. At least Logan O’Hoppe singled.

Inning 4: Mederos started walking guys in this inning. Then he hit a guy. It cost him a grand slam to Reese McGuire. 6-0 Cubs. The Angels went down in order. They made Horton throw 11 whole pitches though.

Inning 5: Enter Ryan Zeferjahn. Kyle Tucker doubled. That was it for the Cubs. Jo Adell got a one out single. So did Luis Rengifo. Logan O’Hoppe struck out and Bryce Teodosio flied out.

Inning 6: Enter Carson Fulmer. Willi Castro singled and reached second on a wild pitch. Reese McGuire walked to put men at first and second with one out. Michael Busch singled to score Willi Castro. 7-0 Cubs. Kyle Tucker then homered to make it 10 – 0 Cubs. When does the mercy rule kick in? The Angels brought Oswald Peraza in to pinch hit for Zach Neto. He promptly struck out. Niko Kavadas drew the first Angels walk. Here we got the third strikeTroutTM of the game. It’s OK. Ward also struck out.

Inning 7: A single and two doubles resulted in another Cubs run. 11-0 Cubs. Now we know the official Luis Garcia line. Down by eleven runs, it’s safe to bring in Luis Garcia. Rese McGuire promptly hit a sacrifice fly to put the Cubs up 12-0. Jo Adell did homer to make sure this blowout wouldn’t be a shutout.

Inning 8: Oswald Peraza came in to pitch. He was really bringing it in the mid forties. He pitched a scoreless eighth. The Angels did nothing as usual.

Inning 9: Peraza gave up a single to Justin Turner and another to Willi Castro but the Angels turned a double play behind him to end the scoreless inning. Angels= groundout + goundout + fly out to center. Angels lose 12-1.

Seriously hate to be the guy to do this but my good buddy is a die hard A’s fan and has me on serious blast at the moment. Lead is down to 2 games and shrinking at a rapid pace to not finish in last place. By my unofficial guesstimate they will have permanently put us in the cellar by the time we crawl out of Texas next week in embarrassing fashion

I know I posted about this yesterday but I’m going to double down. Do the folks here at CTPGs actually enjoy the EDM festival that Angels games have become? Every organic baseball moment seems to be broken up by over-amplified sound and flashing lights. It is so loud you literally cannot converse with your neighbor. I gave up my season tickets a few years ago. When did it become this way?

We had lights flashing, fireworks and fire/flames to accompany Adell’s homer last night. Unclear if Arte was trolling us or not.

Very inappropriate celebration that was as amped up as the clinching of 2002’s WS game 7.

Nothing like shooting fireworks after a solo home run while down by 12 runs. I listen to the games on satellite radio. Haven’t been to the stadium in a few years. I listened to a few Dodger games from LA last season and couldn’t take the constant song bites (even between pitches), the fake noise making and most of all of it. I stopped listening. It’s the world we live in, constant stimulation required, and $17 beers.

“Constant stimulation and $17 beer” sums it up pretty well.

I used to enjoy going to a game with a buddy and chatting through life’s “stuff” while enjoying a hot dog and a few beers. Now it’s impossible to have a conversation during the game. Constant loud over amplified noise.

I don’t go to a rock concert to chat with a buddy. I used to go to baseball games to enjoy that. Not possible anymore.

Some of the stands sell Coors and Coors Light for just under $5. Smaller cans, but the beer isn’t warm before you finish it

There is nothing like a 12-1 loss to teach the youngsters about meaningful games. We are still two games ahead of the A’s for last place, we will see what the boys are made of.

With today’s loss, the Angels now have the worst run differential in the American League.

To drive home the disparity between the Cubs and Angels, the Cubs have a +120 run differential and the Angels have a -87 run differential.

The Angels have only won one more game than the Athletics. It looks pretty clear where this is headed.

This speaks to how relatively good the Angels pitching has been and how relatively lucky the team has been this year. If the pitching had been bad and luck even a bit worse, the team easily could be 20+ games under .500 at this point with that run deferential.

And “relatively” is doing quite a bit of work there.

They have the worst walk rate in the MLB, which goes a long way toward understanding why they’re #27 in runs surrendered, runs per game and ERA.

The Angels average 4.3 runs per game, but give up 5.0 runs a game.

The runs scored per game of 4.3 ranks 20th overall, but the runs allowed is the 4th worst in all of baseball.

The number of errors committed by the team thus far this season is 6th worse in all of baseball.

The ERA+ of the team is 90, which is 5th worst in all of baseball.

The team has struck out 1264 times thus far this season, which is the worst in all of baseball. The team OPS+ is 96, which is 4% below average. The good news: the team is tied for having hit the 4th (182) highest number of HRs thus far this season.

If you can’t pitch and you can’t catch the ball, you won’t win many games. The players on roster may have future, yet unrealized potential. However, as a team, this is simply a bad roster as currently constructed.

The Pythagorean expected win-loss record based on the number of runs scored and the number of runs allowed is 56-73. This makes our Pythagorean luck a +5.

That +5 qualifies as very lucky this season.

Living’s hard and baseball’s mean, so get a little loving in between.

Can’t spell meaningful without mean, Angels fans.

Fun fact: Yankees lost at home by the same score. The unfinished business is copying the Yankees.

Woof. Terrible dodgers like crowd on hand. Screaming Cubs fan brats and parents nowhere to be found.

Horrible ballpark experience.

Highlight was Peraza’s pitching. He got a standing ovation from me.

I was at the game tonight. I used to like the Cubs but I don’t anymore. Their fans are obnoxious and rude. Worst fans I’ve ever seen. If I went to an Angels game at Wrigley, I would never behave like they did.

Cubs fans = RedSox fans = Dodgers fans. They make Yankees fans seem knowledgeable and tolerable.

Ps – if you acted like they do in Anaheim at Wrigley you might get a beer dumped on you. Definitely peanuts thrown at you.

I wrote mine before I read yours. Insufferable crowd tonight. The Cubs fans were terrible. I shudda brought my Mom’s wooden spoon to discipline some of the rug rats even though it’s been retired and banned since the early 80’s.

Really need to know what Arte’s “unfinished business” is. Unless it’s settling this Titanic at the bottom of the ocean as he’s doing a good job of that.

Once the grand slam happened this thing was over.

The fact they lost the last few innings 6-1 after that happened is just a kick in the nads.
