Each week I try to come up with some clever way to string this piece together and give it some cohesion and humor. This week, I got nothing.
The biggest news was Ohtani getting elbow surgery. Per his Instagram account he’ll be good to hit in 2024 and pitch again in 2025. Where that will be is to be determined.
One guy who will definitely be an Angel in 2024 got to live out his childhood dream by hitting a home run in front of his mom.
One guy I really hope is healthy enough to pitch in 2024 was flat out nasty in Tampa Bay.
Brandon Drury had himself one heck of a game on Wednesday, connecting for two home runs and 5 RBI against a very good Rays team.
Not much went right for the Angels in 2023 but the Brandon Drury signing has worked out really well. And he’s signed through next season. Our friend Jeff Fletcher took a look at that.
Another guy who will be here in 2024 is this year’s first round pick Nolan Schanuel who has gotten off to a great start.
The kid even hit his first home run this week.
Yesterday the Angels managed to choke away a late lead and lose the series to Tampa Bay 2 games to 1. Esteves knows how to add a good teammate and it isn’t by nailing down that save.
As of noon on Thursday the Angels are sitting 6th in the Tankathon rankings but the Cardinals 5th spot is within reach. Have some fun and run some simulated lotteries on there. Then take a way too early look at a mock draft and dream a little.
From around baseball:
Ronald Acuna is having an incredible season and his recent surge has him tied or ahead of Mookie Betts in pretty much every statistical category.
Yusei Kikuchi gets 13 to 14 hours of sleep per night. Wow. My brain loves to go into overdrive about 11 PM and keep me to low single digits without chemical help.
The Dodgers are going full Stalin and erasing Julio Urias image from their World Series mural and other parts of the stadium. I have to imagine his free agent landing spots are down to Houston and the Yankees.
The schedule for the 2023 playoffs is out. We will have game threads, so stick around.
Enjoy your weekend and link what I missed.
Jerry’s M’s vs Rangers tonight.
Interesting choices. https://twitter.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1705229237349675296
Pickings are thin, I see
Thin and Dichiara don’t belong in the same sentence.
I think Davis Daniel will be OK. It will be interesting to see how Sonny D holds up.
Per Jeff Fletcher,
The Angels placed Aaron Loup on the IL with a left shoulder strain, so his season is over.
The opens a spot for Davis Daniel to be added to the roster.
So are we officially above the CBT limit again?
I can pitch, and do it at a cost that would keep them under that, if needed.
I can go the minimum 3 batters. I’ll do it for free if I can eat after the game, l hear they serve a delicious buttered LOBster…….and I want to have Sam the Hat question me about my playing weight. And I’d like to try coaching 3rd base for a couple innings. Hasselmon can grab some bench.
I’ll pitch to the second three batters just for the free food.
You greedy fellas! I just want to pitch for the chance to be heckled by the Angry CtPG mob!
heheheh
Id pay to see that DD
Sorry guys but I’m not buying it. this sounds like:
https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/667eff1f-2c5f-4dde-b21d-5f2f19040c54
I have a 24 mph curve that goes from 1 to 7, backed up with a 29 mph heater.
I was counting on Loup to get us past the Cardinals.
On a serious note, what a horrible way to enter free agency.
Perry, if still here (and I hope not) will re-sign him to a team friendly deal
I hope Perry is still here.
Unless people know of another candidate that will guaranteed do better.
Perry will return. Even if Arte surprisingly announces the sale of the team a new owner (or POBO) would not blow out existing management on Day 1.
I really doubt PTP will bring back Loup. Theres no-one in this league that would give that guy a major league deal any I really doubt the Angels would even give him a minor league deal after buying out his option.
Perry’s cooked. This year was an epic failure. Don’t care he has 1-more year on his contract.
I’ll take that bet.
If I bought the angels I’d get new management immediately, depending on when I bought the team. Today, for example. But if the sale were final in March it would be too late. I’d have to wait until Day 50
Do you have $3 billion sitting around the house?
Why couldn’t they have found a phantom injury for him months ago.
https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3485581/on-this-date-in-sports-september-22-1978-death-of-angel
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this story/incident before.
I’lll take Angel Deaths and Misfortune for $1000 Alex.
He’s one on a Long list.
Seems like most regulars on this site have embraced the idea of an “Angel death curse”… and yeah it seems like there have been a lot of Angels who have met violent/unfortunate/unexpected ends… but is that true, or just a product of our closeness to Angels history and comparative ignorance of other franchise histories? (i.e availability/confirmation bias) The club has been around for 60 years now. Seems likely some other teams have a corpse count just as high… or maybe not! Would be cool if some plucky graduate researcher settled the matter.
What rock you been hiding under?
Could be he was born around that time, or later. Bostock: I played crappy, here’s my paycheck back.
Unbelievable his level of accountability.
Respect!
I was born 7 years after this happened.
Good book to add to your reading list:Once They Were Angels (Hardcover – March 1, 2006) Robert Goldman
Yes. Highly recommend.
If you have the time I highly recommend Tom Rinaldi’s 8 part podcast “Wesley” about the life and death and aftermath of Lyman Bostock.

Could/should be made into a movie
It was included in that post at the bottom. I plan on it sometime this weekend.
I’d never heard of this. And I have the pleasure of driving the California City and back tomorrow.
Thanks.
You’re going to Cal City on purpose…YIKES!!
Buddy of mine has a hanger at Cal City airport.
I spent a month there one week over 30 years ago.
Why are you going to California City? Really nothing but desert there. I used to ride motorcycles there in the 60s, early 70s
Yikes, sorry for sharing ESPN link, but this is interesting too:
https://www.espn.com/espn/eticket/story?page=bostock&redirected=true
Wow what a flood of memories. I was 17 and lived, breathed, and slept baseball. My dad cried when Clemente was killed, and I cried like a baby when Bostock died. He was such a joy to watch.
He was an anti-Rendon. When he wasn’t living up to his past performance, he tried to give some of his salary back. Angels wouldn’t accept it, and he donated to charity, as I recall.
Hoping that Trouty stays &: Plays out his career with the Angels, but like all of the best laid plans – things change. He certainly has earned his wings, so if he wants to finish out his career in Philly or NY then I think he should be able to do just that. I would really like to see him finish out here, maybe in a corner OF spot or 1st base with DH’ing once or twice a week.
Ohtani would be missed by all. Angels missed the opportunity to get a return and threw the dice, still it’s not been said what he intends to do. Imho, he will never be the same pitcher he was, again imho. Having no real idea in how much he is worth on the open market, who would not want him to return. But would you pay dearly for a player to be a DH only, even for one year and then in year two see him try to return to pitching? We’ve been there done that.
Rendon(e) does not have the heart to play through injuries for a team going nowhere while collecting more in one month than I made in my lifetime, would you want to play while collecting 38 million a year? I don’t see him playing many more games in an Angels uniform, and I don’t think he wants too either.
Being released, being a Free Agent, or request a trade, any combination of these three options can and will take place in November – December or January. Going to be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Mike likes living in Newport Beach, playing close to where he lives, and not having any pressure to perform. He has the best of all worlds except for winning with great forgiving fans. There’s no way he goes to Philly or NY. He might be willing to go to the Dodgers if Ohtani was there as well.
Why are so many assuming Trout is going to be “playing his last game as an Angel” before the end of the season? Just because YOU hate this team, doesn’t mean he does. Stop projecting your own thoughts and feelings onto a person you know nothing about. Shocking I know, to find out he doesn’t feel exactly like you* and hate Miggy, the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, and Astros, Mean Arte, Perry, wants to punch Rendon and his beard, and is jealous of Ohtani.
*All posts from this season projecting personal biases onto Trout.
lol chill out dude.
I’ve yet to see someone definitively say that it will be his last. But it *could* be his last
A little harsh, but I’m here for it.
Trout isn’t going anywhere imo.
Trout isn’t going anywhere.
His wife likes that NB house.
Quit taking photos from the bushes, 78!!!
realtor.com photographer must be a perv.
Just because he plays for another team doesn’t mean he has to sell the house. He has so much money, he could afford to buy a second home.
or 10! 😀
So true, JUp just listed his Newport home this week.
Do you think they have a below a 3% mortgage rate on that beauty?
You don’t need a mortgage in his situation
I worked on some custom homes in Pelican Hill. The developer had some other high end Pelican Hills homes he owned, this was at the time that Karl Malone came to play for The Lakers. He sold one of his other homes in Pelican Hill, around the corner from the 4 we were working on, with an ocean view, for just under 5 million. Karl wrote him a check!
Maybe he says maybe he doesn’t, it’s all speculation unless we have a legitimate source and not: “just trust me bro”.
You forgot the Strangers and Mariners and Jerry, we hate them, and some hate Rengafo, don’t forget about him…….remind me, why do I hate Miggy? Who is Miggy?
Free Tr-out!
Free the Projections!
Free Rengafo!
You have to hate Miggy because he “stole” an MVP award from Trout 😛
Got it….permission then to not hate Miggy and take him off the list of hate?
And then add Seattle and the Rangers?
You’d have to ask the WAR is everything crowd.
Help me out here…I’d really feel better if we could add The Seattle Mariners and Jerry, and the Texas Rangers to that list of hate.
Don’t listen to him. Listen to this guy:

Or two?
I didn’t like Miggy 1 because he was part of the Carlos Guillen game and 2 he stole 2 MVPs from Trout.
I still gave him a rousing standing ovation last Saturday night during his pre-game “sendoff”
I don’t think people are projecting personal bias into the Trout situation, I think many are being realistic about what he might want going forward. Trout has bene here for what 11-12 years now? If he is looking at the future of the team and where it is headed I am sure he is intelligent enough to know the direction right now is not a positive one. If Trout wants to win a title before retirement he may feel that won’t happen here. So no I don’t think most have a personal bias against Trout. I believe he has been injury plagued like most of our big contract guys seem to be, but people here want the best for the guy.
Damn. You went nuclear and “troutstrikeout” didn’t even make an appearance before said explosion.
I think he “possibly” could be done as an Angel but who knows
I don’t know where the “Angels could trade trout if he’s open to a trade” news came from other than Bob Nightengale who is a wanker, so I tend to think he isn’t gonna be traded.
But if there’s any validity to that leak, he might be on his way out.
Who knows? I stand on the middle of the fence leaning toward he stays and I’m not a hater of the team; I’m usually called a Pollyanna because I go to games instead of sitting at home sulking about Moreno and bitching here.
Go to the games? In person? And give up the comfort of my own couch wearing my reversible road and away RallyTank Thong? Yeah, right!
An fyi, I’m having a “City Connect RallyTank Thong” custom made. I asked them to make it in white…..I’m going to let it age naturally into its Creamish Yellowish color.
😂😂😂😂😂😁😂
How DARE you go to games, and watch those hitters swinging at first strikes while lining Arte’s pockets? I’m neither for/against Trout leaving either.
Like the same 4 posts in the game threads over and over, it becomes fatiguing to endlessly read that Player A obviously hates Player B because we all did. Or the hate for Vernon Wells, as if he held a gun to Arte and demanded we trade for him in desperation after missing out on Crawford.
Now hold on there, skippy.
You just GOTTA hate Vernon Wells.
The guy tweets “I’m too blessed to be stressed” while in the middle of a failing pennant race and then I screencap this on my own Television:

UNBELIEVABLE! A Player bored in a game.
SHOCKING!
This guy plays for the Houston Nostril Drillers.
I get some shut eye at the games. Wake me when they trade
Tr-out.
😅
I’d bet heavily against Trout leaving for a host of reasons.
What do you think Mike wants to hear when has his higher up conversation with team ownership? Their commitment to a plan? Commitment to winning? LOL.
Nothing is changing here. Trout and the team need to separate.
wishful thinking bate de cerveza.
I’m pretty sure they are making predictions, not saying it’s a “for sure thing”.
Sounds like a cope
Sounds about right
I have scrolled past this so I can reply without seeing that guy
Thinking more about Trout. I’m coming around to the opinion that we’ll see him for a few games during the last home stand as these are potentially his final days as an Angel.
If that’s the case, I hope he’s able to return and rake for a couple of games if it’s to be his farewell.
Trout is a Halo for life, unless he asks out. There is no indication of that being the case from anyone or anywhere.
Highly confident Trouty finishes his contract with us.
If he does get traded, I hope it’s to an AL West team (I know how unlikely that is) so that he can become the AL West’s all-time home run king.
Right now this is where things stand:
Ive experienced some trauma in my life. Watching Mike Trout play in a Mariners, Rangers, Astros, or A’s uniform would undoubtedly be the traumatic event that sends me spiraling towards suicide.
(sincere apology if this joke is too dark)
as I’ve mentioned often (too often?) I grew up in NYC and was a Mets fan *until* they traded Tom Seaver. Maybe I’m too old now to switch again but if the Angels lost Shohei and traded Trout….and yet Arte was still the owner and PTP was still GM and Nevin was still manager… yikes.
Agree…shoot me now!!
He ain’t going nowhere.
Oh dear God. Now I get why Marcotor went off
😬😬😬😬😬
<barf> on a meaningless stat.
I do hope if for whatever reason the Angels pull that trigger it’s to Boston or NY, just to watch the exploiting heads here.
You know there is no trophy for that, right? And any new “record” would only last until a future realignment. 😀 Nothing personal GG, but I get cranky over these made up BS “records”!
I’d say basically zero chance he’s playing in the last homestand. I also think there is almost no chance he will be traded bc, realistically, what would the Angels get back in return without covering at least 50% of his salary?
Trout’s rocking a -86.6 on the Trade Simulator. It’s not a Rendonian level of suckitude, but it’s pretty bad.
Manny Machado and Jacob deGrom are each about 5/4 times as undesirable as Rendon according to the simulator. I guess it’s all relative when things are that bad.
You would take anything for Trout at this point. Shed the salary and let’s have the kids play; Ward and Joey flank Moniak in center. It might be suckitude for a while but Trout cannot stay in the line-up. So hang onto him?
I don’t think any team in their right mind would take that entire contract on, so probably a decent portion of it will stay on the books, even if they were able to move him.
Probably a lump sum payment but the way some teams throw money around these days, Padres, Phils and Mets to name a few…I don’t think money is a determent. Other teams see Trout as a piece for a championship.
In 24 games Schanuel has produced 0.2 WAR which means he’s playing at about a 1.5 WAR clip. The only reason it is not higher is the lack of slugging.
This is where WAR fails as a statistic in my opinion. Give me a bunch of guys with great eyes who get on base and I will show you a pesky offense that can create runs and extend innings.
I like the kid a lot. I don’t think WAR tells his story.
Agreed. The secret to good offense are guys that know the strike zone, make consistent contact, and can get hits when it counts plus make productive outs when that is needed. String a bunch of them together and you have a good offense.
Nice post F71. Echoing my thoughts on Schanuel’s WAR perfectly
To me the most telling and most important stat hitting wise is OBP. If I have to choose between a guy with on OBP of .300 who hits 40 homeruns or a guy who has an OBP of .425 and hits ten homeruns I am taking the .425 OBP every time. Build a team full of players with the ability to take walks and get on base and that team will win and will win often.
💯
Billy Ball.
How many PA’s, stolen bases and how many doubles for each player under your scenario? If dude no. 2 doesn’t hit many doubles or steal any bases either I think I’d go with dude no. 1.
I’ll take what’s behind door # 3
https://youtu.be/PlKDQqKh03Y?si=M0nbZ3GKUSXC7z6b
The Angels scored 14 runs in three games against the playoff-caliber pitching staff of the Tampa Bay Rays. Here is how many runs each individual Angel produced:
3.50 Drury
3.00 Neto
2.25 Adell
1.50 Walsh
1.25 Fletcher
1.25 O’Hoppe
1.00 Schanuel
0.25 Stefanic
This is the fifth time Brandon Drury has led the Angels in Actual Runs Produced. Jo Adell participated in the creation of four runs. That is something. Zach Neto led all Angels in this series, though, when he participated in the creation of six runs.
And here is the updated Actual Runs Allowed per Batters Faced:
0.00 Daniel (13)
0.05 Joyce (37)
0.09 Bachman (77)
0.10 Silseth (205)
0.11 Canning (511)
0.11 Estevez (271)
0.11 Soriano (178)
0.12 Sandoval (637)
0.12 Detmers (615)
0.13 Anderson (629)
0.13 Wantz (140)
0.15 Loup (231)
0.15 Herget (113)
0.16 Devenski (140)
0.17 Barria (349)
0.17 Marte (34)
0.18 Suarez (135)
0.18 Reyes (49)
0.18 Mederos (17)
0.19 Ingram (25)
0.22 Rosenberg (108)
0.23 Diaz (30)
By dropping his ARA/BF down to 0.05, Ben Joyce is officially an elite pitcher in the MLB (although his batters faced denominator is small). This designation certainly passes the eye test. Joyce’s stuff looks as electric as 2002 KRod’s was. It’s a shame that the Angels aren’t going to be in the playoffs so everyone can see how awesome this kid is.
Jose Soriano had a horrific week about three weeks ago, but it is wonderful to see that he was able to put that behind him and regain his effectiveness. Resilient.
Carlos Estevez has had the highest workload of any of the Angel relievers. Has this been the reason for his second half slip into mediocrity? Has Nevin been overusing him?
I’m wondering if we are going to see Daniel, Bachman, Silseth, or Devenski pitch for the Angels anymore this year.
I thought they released Devenski ???
Yes, you’re right. I just looked it up. I missed that bit of news when it happened. I can take him off of my list now. Thanks, BiLA!
I think we’ll see Silseth against Oakland, but Bachman appears to be done for the year IMO.
“He’s dead”
“Well then cross him off the list!!!”
Daniel is starting tonight. I find I root just a little bit more for the guys Jeff has interviewed
Major League pitching staffs will find a hole in Schanuel’s swing…and they will find it.
Only then will we know if he really belongs in the Major Leagues…the jury is still out.
Best of luck to those pitching staffs. Nolan is our OBP 👑 for the remainder of the decade.
Yep. That adjustment period is always make or break on my eyes too.
Year one tends to go to the hitter, no one knows the weaknesses or where the hitter struggles. The tape on the guy doesn’t exist. Year two is the big year. Have a great year two and we have a ton to look forward to.
You can’t find a “hole” in the swing of a guy that doesn’t swing. His plate discipline is incredible. As long as he maintains that trait he will be successful.
Anybody that does not think all young hitters wont go through
what every young hitter goes through is living in a fantasy world.
Schanuel’s has absolutely surprised me to no end here at the start of his career. I truly believed he would have been over matched next year to start his career, but he started this year and has shown he knows what he is doing up at the plate.
Time to eat Crow for this Grandpa, pass the mustard, it will look good on my face. 😛
He has to be seen as the 1B entering camp. Walsh as possible competition (if we stick with him). Drury can also slide over in a pinch.
Moose is a potential backup at 1B / 3B as well.
Only if we bring him back. He is not under contract (as far as I can see).
He’s the classic 1YR/$10M “clubhouse cheerleader” contract.
He’ll sign and play one game and be done.
See also: Fowler, Dexter
Really hoping the spectre of the tank means we avoid signing a 35 year old part-time back up corner IF coming off a sub-par (86 OPS+) offensive year to a contract at 10 times what he made last year.
But, I wouldn’t put it past them. They do love their vets.
They do love their BILLBOARDS!!!!

Walsh wont be worth the Arb number. he wont be back with the Angels.
Agreed. Sadly.
I really hoped that Walsh could break through again. The medical issues he has dealt with cannot be easy. I hope the best for the guy but I agree, we probably wont be seeing him next season.
If all he is offered in a Minor League contract by the other 29 teams, Angels can do same with a ST invite and he may return that way. Not a bad choice for
a Utility job as he plays !b, LF, RF, DH., but we’ll see.
Agreed. And Walsh might feel more comfortable trying to come back around his friends. I have to imagine his teammates saw him struggle and were there for him.
Very rare does the non tendered player come back on a minor league to his original team.
He’ll end up somewhere . it just wont be with us.
Those darn Cardinals, but hey, our “get your red on Angels” couldn’t be stopped last night, love having something to root for, now let’s get those Redbirds!!!
In the last 3 seasons, Anthony Rendone has played in 148/486 games (30.5%).
1.1 WAR produced
$105 million “earned”
That does not even fully describe how bad he has been.
Don’t forget his dreadful defense, and his toxic presence in the dugout.
And I heard he has really bad foot odor.
and gingivitus
So you’re saying he’s actual produced something that can be measured?
In the last 3 seasons, Mike Trout has played in 237/486 games (48.8%).
10.9 WAR produced
$111 million earned
Interesting.
injuries robbed us of the latter part of Trout’s prime 😭😭😭
funny though that 10WAR across three seasons could be seen as incredibly awesome production. Yet, it’s a total disappointment given what we know Trout can do.
Well, that is about Matt Chapman’s performance over the past three seasons (4.1, 4.2, 3.2) and he hasn’t been hurt at all.
Assuming that Trout is here next season, I maintain that it’s in everyone’s best interest to make him the full-time DH / 4th outfielder.
Just focus on the art of hitting…..not to mention the art of holistic health – yoga, acupuncture, DMT; etc etc etc
Trouty reallyyyyy hates DHing tho.
Starting in CF for your 2024-2027 Los Angeles Angels, Miiiiiiiiike Troooooouuut
Trout is now 32 going on 33 and can’t stay healthy. It shouldn’t take a sales guru to sell him on the idea of embracing the DH role. In fact, I’d wager he’s open to the idea at this stage.
You are spitting facts. Will the greatest of his generation see it at that way?
Hopefully. It should be an easy sell, frankly.
“Look Mike, we need your bat in the lineup for 140+ games and we think it’s better for you and the team in the big picture to focus on DH and minimize the risk of injury by reducing your every day fielding responsibilities.”
I’ve wanted to move him to a corner position for a couple of years now. He has the arm for right field and can still cover left.
I’d rotate him around a bit but mostly keep Moniak in CF. Maybe let Trout get a start there every now and then against a tough lefty just to appease him a bit.
Yup. Make him a DH – 4th OF.
Assuming he’s here next season of course.
This year’s apparent season-ending injury came while hitting.
You’re missing the point. Trout playing in the OF increases his chances of soft tissue injury – calf, hamstring, etc.
Anything that can be done to reduce the probability of injury should be pursued.
Have all of his injuries come while playing offense? The hamate, the calf, and the thumb are the Trout injuries that come to mind, and those all came while he was playing offense.
The Angel players definitely do not stretch enough. Ichiro stretched in right field in between every pitch, and he also stretched in the dugout when his team was batting. He never pulled a muscle.
One cannot use Ichiro as a model for anyone. He was one of a kind.
He hasn’t gotten hurt in the field though, has he? If he did, then I can see this, but there are players that feed off playing defense. Sure, move him to the corners if you think he lost enough steps, but otherwise let him field as long as he wants to.
And other players are “fed” by Hecklers …
https://youtu.be/kxvtYHIVqJ4?si=amO1dBSaiG8jIywy
It’s crazy, that looks bad but I still feel like it doesn’t capture the entire picture of how truly horrific his contract has been for us. The guy has been nothing but a detriment to the Angels organization.
Vernon Wells
2011 -2014 – 208/486 games (42.8%) or 208 of 322 while an Angel (64.5%)
1.4 WAR produced
$87 million “earned”
At least Rendon isn’t on the field producing crap value; he at least allows us to open up a roster spot 70% of the time, while Wells allowed us only 35% open roster spots.
But we did get to see the beauty of his infield pop flys on a nightly basis!
We are moving from Sho Time to Jo Time.
Start the clock, because the Adell Era has begun 🕑
Adell = 0.5 WAR in 8 games
Rendone = 0.1 WAR in 43 games
If he maintains this 10.25 WAR/162 pace, I’m totally on board! Woo hoo!
His helmet can’t be falling off his head before contact on a HR. Style points will be important going forward. Unfortunately it’s a requirement when your team goes 69-93.
They call it…swag
I think Adell has 30-40 HR potential based on playing 140+ games, but the question boils down to batting average.
Does he hit this many jacks whilst batting .210 or somewhere around .250 ????
Certainly has the power and we could have used a trial run the second half had he not gotten hurt, Agree, boils down to batting average, whiff rates and run prevention.
Does not appear to be a cerebral player, cutting down on his strike zone with 2 strikes or advancing the runners when needed.
Yup. Hopefully he’a closer to 150 k’s versus 200 k’s.
I think he defense will end up being adequate when it’s all said & done.
He will have a difficult time getting rid of his reputation as an “outfield defensive butcher”. He has a chance to become “league average” defensively or better. He will have equal parts great plays / bad plays.
I’ll take close to .250 under 150 K’s 20 HR 60 RBI
I’m a member of the Jo Adell appreciation Society. Go Jo!
I think he easily reaches 20 HR / 60 RBI – the question boils down to strike out & batting average…..
It seems like he’s been around forever, but he’s still only 24. Incredible.
I listen to him being interviewed and I believe he cares and is teachable. Hopefully a new staff next year will be able to help him.
Adell has been having consistently impressive ABs since returning from the oblique injury (smallest of sample sizes). His defense has been spectacular at the major league level this season as well.
.250 / .320 / .500, 30% K rate, plus defense/speed seems like a possible outcome.
I think those numbers are his ceiling and if he reaches them, the club should be ECSTATIC.
Tank Baby Tank!!!
MIN clinch division.
Why does Johnathan Mayo have us picking 13th, and then picking a “toolsy outfielder” ? I think he is taking a jab at The Angels, basically saying “Yes, they need pitching, it they draft like idiots, so they will take yet another outfielder “.
They should take best player available from here on out. No more FASTEST GUY WE NEED ASAP stuff with Ohtani urgency gone.
Copy that.
Perry has drafted need. I’m sure Schanuel was selected due to the fact he could play 1st and Neto for SS. Two immediate sore spots and Perry felt pressure to win with Ohtani and Trout. I think Perry did do the FASTEST GUY WE NEED ASAP stuff.
Taking a step back, Angels could use a strong bat that can make consistent contact, OF and 3rd are holes. Guys like Ward, Adell and Moniak are not locks to succeed and the minors are extremely thin in the OF department. A dominant pitcher (w/no reliever risk) is always welcomed.
Just go BPA regardless of position and spend our FA dollars on pitching, IMO.
I agree Neto and Schanuel were drafted based off need.
Fortunately, Perry cooked and both players look like studs.
So you’re saying that on July 9th, 2023 Perry took Schanuel out of college with the primary intentions of starting him at first base in the big leagues before the end of the year?

Not for this year (there were other options that all fell injured), but soon and to take 1B out of the long-term thinking and show we had that position covered.
100%…taking a guy with one of the better college bats that could hit the majors quickly. Look at Minasian’s minor league conveyer belt history. Bachman was not ready but he came up. Silseth was the first guy from 2021 draft to the majors. Neto to the majors in less that 1-year. What other club does this? This is Perry’s MO.

Doubling down on that? you Must still be in beer coma today, FA
That link is a bit old.
That was BT……Before Tanking.
but, but he’s “toolsy”! If he is “toolsy” with “gritiness”, that’s even better.
Personally, I believe it’s time to scout and draft based on: a) the players nickname, and b) the talent of the date he took to the high school prom.

“he skipped HS prom, stating he would rather hit baseballs in the cage than hit on girls. The grit is off the charts with this player and he will fit in great with the Angels’ culture”
This is real, fearless, manly grit. It takes brawn and guts to bring this herd home…..
I thought for a split second this was the Jack in the Box Mini Sirloin Burgers commercial … looking more closely, this is an amazing GIF!
Someone actually SUCCEEDED at herding cats!
But thats because he lacks confidence.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I keep seeing “toolsy” and can’t help but think of good ole Halowood, one old martyr of Halos Heaven lore.
When I think of “Toolsey” when it comes to the Angels and the draft…it’s this.
can they pitch! I bet those guys could throw 200 innings in one game! we’ve all evolved into a bunch of wusses.
In 1974 Nolan Ryan threw 235 pitches, in ONE game, for The Angels, to beat the Red Sox. Today a pitcher gets pulled at 90 pitches through 4 1/3 innings. Where are my early 70s strength and conditioning trainers at???
Guys like Ryan & Roger Clemens pretty much pumped fast balls all game if my memory is correct.
Well Clemens was also pumping the anabolic steroids.
“Mr. Clemens didn’t take H.G.H., those were B-12 shots.
I think you are misremembering CB26”
-Albert Pujols
Ryan had a good curve ball.
And a mean right uppercut.

I got there (HH) just as the whole Halowood thing was winding down, so I don’t really know much. I have seen his posts on another site. He’s very pro on prospects
It is so early to project. Seems like every year the consensus no. 1 heading into next season falls in the draft. Dollander, etc.
So now that the Dollander fell so much what’s the Fed going to do about it?
I laughed out loud when I read this.
If you are smart, you do! 👍
