Angels vs. Brewers Game 1 Gamethread

Milwaukee is one of my favorite teams. Small market team that does it the right way.

Will they still have Neto Tshirt night giveaway on August 14 if Neto is gone?

Brewers are so defensively solid.

Figured how to make mlb tv work on my actual tv so that’s cool.

It looks like another 10+ strikeout night.

Kikuchi and Klassen call-ups lessen the blow of Soriano and Detmers double trades. 🙂

I was hoping Kikuchi would look better than he did last night

Apparently he wanted to call his own pitches but A ball doesn’t have pitchcom so he was hand signaling to the catcher. The hitters caught on haha

While Snead surrendered three runs tonight via two longballs, he threw only 54 pitches through six. Only three hits total.

The guy throws nothing but strikes. Sometimes it burns him (like the two HRs tonight), but the Angels have few pitchers with that command in the system.

Do you think his stuff will play in the majors? I know the scouting report was his FB can get up to 99 and he has a solid mix of secondaries

Fwiw, I had Drohan in all my early Soriano-to-Brewers packages earlier this month.

Jake Munroe is frying AA pitching. Hit the 3-run go-ahead HR in the 10th

.330 BA / .894 OPS

I was watching that game – he also reached a 20 game on base streak. He’s basically the lone hot bat in the Pandas lineup.

After tonight, he basically hit the OPS he had in Tri-City when he was promoted.

I really like your David Freeze high-end outcome comp. Munroe has been a hit machine at every level thus far

If Paris and Moore are the best hitters in AAA, and no one thinks there any good, and we have one guy hitting in AA, there’s a reason why we need to make these trades to restock our farm. We have no hitters in the minors.

Not a new problem of course. But at least they drafted this year with that problem in mind (Advincula, Grahaovac, Willits, Lujo, Wright). They haven’t done that in years past.

It looks like Peraza is done. Grissom has moved ahead.

I have no idea. Some guys need to play everyday and when Suzuki stoped playing Meckler and Peraza everyday they didn’t hit as well, particularly Peraza.

Peraza genuinely can’t hit

He doesn’t walk either, which means he has to hit to not be making outs. Grissom walks more, in addition to more consistent contact.

I wish we could combine them into 1 player because their strengths complement their weaknesses

True. If Peraza could hit like Grissom, or Grissom could play defense like Peraza, we’d have a good everyday 2B.

Grissom is another Schanuel, contact hitter with no power and maybe average defense, which is ok for someone who plays 2B.

I don’t see Johnson as a long term answer as a rotation piece.

I don’t know if Johnson can be a solid starter or not, but I really hope he becomes one because I really like the way he pitches. I like the funky delivery and how quick he is to the plate and how fast he works.

Schanuel should not be hitting 3rd against a LH pitcher.

Why’s that? He’s our best hitter.

Not against LH pitching. He mashes RH pitching.

Surprised Lara challenged that one. Brewers usually know the strikezone really well.

He’s throwing batting practice. Johnson won’t last 3 innings.
