LA Angels Monday News Crash: Token Angel

As expected, Tyler Anderson is the token Angel on the All Star Roster. Kevin Pillar made it to the ten year point and now says he will retire after this season unless he gets an interesting phone call early in the off season.

The Mets acquired left-hander Matt Gage from the Dodgers for cash.

Rendone made his way back?

Sano’s not too happy ’bout that.

We won’t have to worry about Rendon unless he actually starts hitting. Then our ju ju will kick in and he’ll get hurt. Keep that OPS below .650 and he’ll be around all year for you to complain about.

I have the Nationals game on at work and its crazy how much their team was transformed by trading Soto.

I agree – multiple players from that deal are making a positive impact (much like the players Texas received when they traded U-Haul to Atlanta).

…and then we have the Angels unable to make a decision in the best interests of the long-term health of the franchise.

Trades often do not go as planned but Nats hit on 3 of the prospects (maybe a 4th) received in the Soto deal. Great textbook trade.

Good heavens to Betsy, why would Arte the PTP to hold on? If anything, I would think that having a shitty team with a lower payroll would seem very logical to such a owner who takes every cent he can from the team. Just goes to show you can’t fix stupid.

Not necessarily. It all depends upon what is offered. I would not trade him for two token, crappy AA slap hitters.

Maybe Jesse Chavez is available?

Well, I would not move Anderson unless we get a good offer. He is after all under contract for next season. If we get a good offer (not just any offer !) then yeah, but it is not a trade for a bag of balls and some used chewing gum situation.

Sure hope it is a smoke screen. You have to wonder a little about Minaisan’s motivation level to improve a roster for which may not be overseeing in 2025 and beyond. Arte has him twisting in the wind. The more conservative approach, less controversial, is to sit on his thumbs.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Man this is dumb. If it’s true, which I doubt. If you don’t rebuild it’s because you are maintaining something. What are we maintaining here? After years of wondering how happy Trout is, how his parents feel, if he misses hunting and diner pie too much and then wondering what Shohei thinks of the new soda cups at the stadium and what his haircut says about his feelings regarding Arte plus what his mom thinks about melon slices…

we can finally NOT give a shit about being a total pussy about any one player. Fk the fans too. THIS is the time to just embrace the bummer and get it over as fast as we can. The only other option is slightly less miserable misery for more years.

There isn’t anything Arte can look at and say “XYZ makes us money so let’s preserve this…”. It’s all meh crap. And if Arte wants to be fully cheap and evil, paying Ward n Anderson is also lame. Just get cheaper B Grade talent. So I doubt this rumor is true. It’s likely smoke. Holding on to these guys for one more year gets Arte nothing even if he isn’t considering how getting prospects is good.

But I wanted to trade Ohtani in 2022, so what do I know.

This may have already been posted…per si.com

Angels’ Luis Rengifo Set To See Hand Specialist
Infielder Luis Rengifo has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to wrist inflammation and is scheduled to see a hand specialist. This development could impact the team’s infield dynamics and lineup options in the upcoming games.

But we need him to play and be good if we want to have any hope of trading him (while paying him). It’s the only way you might be able to move on and start forgetting about what ever that man Rendon reminds you of did to you.

GrandpaBaseball

A different take as I am consistent, trade Anderson, trade Rengifo, trade Ward, trade Pillar, trade anyone as long as you keep the 2 hardest to replace in O’Hoppe and Neto. Rebuild is in order; to do that it takes youth, lots of youth. Sell and trade are the keys for a brighter future, sure we have our favorites, we’re Angels fans, but rebuilding hurts in many ways, you will develop new favorites as they are brought up and hopefully excel. We have nothing to lose by Sell & Trade, it can’t get much worse. This is the worst team in Angels history as someone pointed out since 1968. No matter what happens we are stuck with the yo-yo careers of Trout and Rendon, but we do happen to have a window of opportunity to change right now.

This team does the same thing year after year and nothing changes, time for change is upon us, time to take advantage so we have a brighter future.

MarineLayer

I completely agree. There is no one else on the team who will reasonably be part of a future Series contender. Maybe add Soriano or Ben Joyce to this list. Since Adell will get nothing in return, I’d be interested to see if he’s able to progress by the end of the year.

Fansince1971

100% Grandpa. Only untradeables are Neto and O’Hoppe. Everyone else should be on the block including Trout. The team may struggle for a few years but it’s the best way through this mess. Use the Orioles as the goal.

Or the Astros before the Orioles. Tear it down to the studs!

The lottery has screwed up the tear down. Every time (or almost every time) I run the simulator some team with a 0.38% chance jumps ahead of us. It’s harder now to rebuild when Cleveland, for example, jumps up 13 spots to get the 1st pick.

I mention that because Houston tanked before the lottery and grabbed multiple #1s.

Additionally we have our current group in the front office which doesn’t inspire confidence in a rebuild

The team’s recent slide should give Perry all the ammo he needs to sell off the team before the deadline without any push back from Arte.

Anderson, Ward and Estevez should all bring back some value. Pillar, Strickland, Garcia should be on the way out of Anaheim in short order as well.

We will see what happens with Rengifo. Will a team trade for him while he’s hurt? Do we even want to trade him? Will we get full value for him?

Season has played out how many of us expected — play the youth, sell the vets to boost the farm. No complaints here.

That’s a hard “No” on trading Rengifo. In fact, he should be extended ASAP.

He’s still only 27 and fits in with the current youth movement quite well. Not to mention being one of the better hitters in MLB right now. The positional flexibility and the fact he’s a switch-hitter make him a definite keeper.

Rengifo has definitely been good and he’s arguably the team’s best player. But if the Angels could get decent value for him I would trade him in a second. He’s not a key piece to any future championship.

I totally agree. I think the reasonable expectation to be truly competitive is more than we fans want to believe. Rengifo is valuable now and this team needs prospects in the worst way.

Generally, teams that are “rebranding” or what ever Arte needs to call it, trade their best player if he’s not a couple years away from arb.

We’d probably never get equal value by moving Rengifo even before whatever is going on with his wrist.

The calculus boils down to trade him for “something” or extend him. I’m a big time supporter of Rengifo and yes, I’m biased

I have it on good authority that Rengifo is stupid and not a real true baseball player. Thus we should trade him for better pizza.

Yet the maximum value is created by the highest amount of demand which will be on or just before July 30th when the most teams will be assessing their playoff chances.

I guess we’ll all have to cling onto our hopium over the next few weeks that trAdition doesn’t bite us in the Ass and TA doesn’t get plunked by a foul ball in the ASG dugout or get taken down by some other freak malady .
