Shutout Loss Postgame

Today was the rubber game of the Cubs series. How did the Angels fare with this lineup? Not so good. The Angels are specializing in shutouts lately. This time it was 5-0 against.

Inning 1:

Nolan Schanuel grounded out to second. Brandon Drury singled on a grounder through to center to break up the no-hitter. Taylor Ward flied out to center and then Willie Calhoun grounded out to first. Nico Hoerner grounded out to Zach Neto. Michael Busch struck out looking. Cody Bellinger grounded out to first.

Inning 2:

The Angels were impatient. They only saw seven pitches this inning. Logan O’Hoppe lined out to Suzuki in right. Zach Neto grounded out to the shortstop. Mickey Moniak flied out to left. Seiya Suzuki grounded out to Drury at second. Ian Happ popped out to Zach Neto. Christopher Morel struck out swinging.

Inning 3:

Jo Adell flied out to Bellinger in center field. Luis Guillorme hit one off the hand of the pitcher, Hayden Wesneski, which deflected to Dansby Swanson. Swanson threw Guillorme out. Nolan Schanuel grounded out to first. Dansby Swanson singled on a liner to right. Miles Mastrobuoni reached on a ball to Neto that should have been an out. It was eventually ruled a fielder’s choice. Miguel Amaya singled to drive in Swanson and make it 1-0 Cubs. Amaya was out trying to take second. Taylor Ward and Zach Neto both said “Nope!” Nico Hoerner hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it 2-0 Cubs. Michael Busch struck out looking.

Inning 4:

Brandon Drury grounded out to short. Taylor Ward struck out looking. Willie Calhoun bounced out to third base. Cody Bellinger grounded out to first. Seiya Suzuki popped out to second. Ian Happ singled on a liner to Jo Adell. Christopher Morel doubled to left to put two men in scoring position with two outs. Dansby Swanson walked to load the bases. Miles Mastrobuoni grounded out to Brandon Drury.

Inning 5:

Logan O’Hoppe flied out to center field. Zach Neto grounded out to third and Mickey Moniak struck out. Miguel Amaya doubled into the corner down in left. Nico Hoerner singled through to right. The Cubs now had men at first and third with no outs. Michael Busch grounded into a double play which scored another run. 3-0 Cubs. Cody Bellinger popped out to third to end the inning.

Inning 6:

Jo Adell flied out to left fielder Ian Happ. So did Luis Guillorme. Nolan Schanuel flied out to center, just to mix things up a bit. Hunter Strickland came in to pitch. Seiya Suzuki struck out swinging. Ian Happ walked. Christopher Morel flied out to Moniak in center. It started raining. Dansby Swanson grounded out to second (force out) to end the inning.

Inning 7:

Brandon Drury flied out to center. Taylor Ward reached on an error by the third baseman Mastrobuoni. Willie Calhoun was batting when a balk was called sending Ward to second base. Then Calhoun walked. At this point the Cubs replaced Wesneski with Porter Hodge. Logan O’Hoppe grounded out to the pitcher. Zach Neto popped out to Suzuki in right. Matt Moore came in to pitch. David Bote came in to pinch hit for Mastrobuoni and grounded out to short. Miguel Amaya also grounded out to short. The rain began pouring heavily at this point. Nico Hoerner walked on four pitches. Michael Busch homered to make it 5-0 Cubs. Cody Bellinger then flied out to center field.

Inning 8:

Mickey Moniak grounded out to first. Jo Adell flied out to left. Luis Guillorme grounded out to second base. The Angels brought in Carlos Estevez to get in a little work. Seiya Suzuki walked. Ian Happ flied out to Mickey Moniak. Christopher Morel struck out. Dansby Swanson hit one deep to left but it was caught by Taylor Ward.

Inning 9:

Luke “Not So” Little came in to pitch for the Cubs. Nolan Schanuel grounded out to second base. Brandon Drury grounded out to third. Taylor Ward grounded one to third which bounced off the glove of the third baseman David Bote. It was ruled a hit. Taylor Ward was removed in favor of runner Keston Hiura. Kevin Pillar came in to pinch hit. He got an infield single toward second. Logan O’Hoppe walked. Hector Neris was brought in to replace Little on the mound. Zach Neto struck out to end the game.

I saw Curtis Pride play for the SLC Bees about 2006 or so. A group of 5-6 of us were at the game and one friend was an autograph hound. He asked Curtis for an autograph right before the game near the dugout but Curtis turned did not respond. My friend said that Curtis was being rude until I explained to him that Curtis was deaf.

It irks for me. Helps Anderson’s trade value.

40 man roster so if it were evenly distributed 10 teams would have 3 players each and the other 5, the cellar dwellers, would have 2. We have 1.

Logan O’Hoppe is much more worthy than Heef and O’Hoppe got screwed. Perez and Rutschman have 60 and 80 more ABs than Logan respectively. Bullshit.

Orioles are in 1st place and play in a much tougher division. BTW bullpens don’t matter… especially for losing teams. Trade Estevas

Divisional play and strength has been washed out by the new rules. Rutschman and Perez play in much better teams and have better opportunities..

O’Hoppe deserved the AS nod, simple. Surprised more folks are not annoyed. Do the research.

If Anderson is traded before the AllStar game, do we get another AllStar selection?

Or does Anderson have to wear an Angels logo even though on a new team?

We need players who can play! Grady Fuson Moneyball movie. No more utility role players or 9th round SPs. We need Navy Seals and Green Berets not National Guardsman.

We’ve mastered the 5-0 loss. 3 in the last 5 games.

Now let’s work on something else.

Two weeks ago Pineapple said we could go 10-3 in this stretch as we finally got to an easy part of the schedule. F71 thought it more likely we’d win 7, I thought 8..

In a dice metaphor, F71 made the point the hard way.

After we won 6 straight I could see Pineapple’s dream coming true. It’s astonishing that we could then play dead against inferior opposition…. but we did!

Predicted 7-6 but…..

Never thought it would be

6-0 then
1-6

Definitely the hard way.

Moore of the same lifeless offense. I thought yesterday they at least got back on track.. Wrong. And now we face better teams. This ship is gonna sink all the way to the allstar break.
