The Angels did what? Well until tonight the Angels had not won back-to-back games at home all season. That changed when Patrick Sandoval took the bump for the Halos today with yet another quality start. Yes, he has had his ups and downs this year but tonight he was pretty dominant. His final stat line was, 6IP 1ER, on 4 hits, 1BB and 7K’s.
Sandoval overall looked pretty good commanding everything pretty well with the exception of his sweeper. He substituted that with higher usage of his slider. He was able to get ahead in counts and get swing and misses all throughout his outing. Despite Sandoval’s BAA shooting up to .315 his second time around the order this season, he was able to battle through it against the Padres. Sandoval threw exactly 70% strikes in his outing tonight which was another reason why he was so effective and letting his offense give him some support.
The Halos offense tallied 4 runs and came back after being down 1-0. With Guillorme on second in the bottom of the third Rengifo continued to stay hot with a clutch single to tie the game up and 1 a piece.
The game was a pitcher’s duel for a while. Both pitchers were very sharp in their respective starts. For the padres They had a new arm on the mound, Adam Mazur. Once Mazur was out of the game the Angels took advantage of this. With bases loaded in the bottom of 7th Zach Neto burned Profar for a 2RBI double that gave the Angels a 3-1 lead.
Not too long after Zach Neto’s double, Luis Campusano got megged by his pitcher which allowed Moniak to score extending the lead to 4-1.
The Angels bullpen got into a little bit of trouble. Garcia came in and gave up a run making it 4-2. Although there was some traffic. the Halos pen managed to get through, and the Angels were FINALLY able to win back-to-back at home for the first time this season.
Final score Angels 4 Padres 2
Just two more weeks like this and we are at .500 again. Go Halos!
Professional recap Nolan !!!
Strong team pitching. Again.
No doubt Joyce sees action tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
Only 5 hits as a squad but, they did draw 6 walks with only 2 Kโs.
Workman like effort.
Luis Rengifo is not only our best hitter and base stealer, heโs getting comfortable on defense. No need for Sano and his 40% K rate to rush back.
Wouldnโt Sano replace Guillermo?
Hope itโs Otto. Guillermo if and when Drury comes back.
My point is that I like Rengifo at 3rd more than Sano.
The Angels vets should take young Neto to the Library Club on State College to celebrate his big hit tonight
A series win at home!
Great recap.
Great summary. Would recommend!
Remember long ago, when we were little, and weโd get excited about Shufflebot eve?
Boy, those were the days.
