A pitchers duel in a hitters ballpark tonight. Considering the launching pad in Cincinnati that makes the performances of Tyler Anderson and Nick Lodolo even more impressive.
Anderson pitched 7 strong innings and gave up 2 runs. Unfortunately the Angels were down 2-1 after 7.
Adam Cimber helped put the game out of reach by giving g up a run in the 8th and leaving the bases loaded for Jose Cisneros.
Gas can is gonna gas can. As usual the mere presence of Cisnero ended any hopes of victory.

Roman Gabriel 83, passed away. LA Rams QB of the 60’s and into the 70’s. RIP Roman. The Rams had a Roman, a Merlin, a Deacon, a Rosie and 2 Youngbloods.
Coyotes are dead in Phoenix, the Coyotes have pick up and moved to Salt Lake City.
Believe it or not, Rendone is hitting at a higher average than Trouty!!! .255 vs .254. I guess he’s not done that Mr.Rendon.

Walsh or Hicks? what’s the group’s pleasure?
Hicks hits Lefties, Walsh used to hit Righties.
Walsh all day long.
I’ve seen both of them in the OF and Walsh is better fielder, sure do wish Walsh could find his swing again.
Hicks.
All hot starts simmer off at some point, the floor dropped from underneath Walsh’s start, back to being f-ugly, I had been checking his stats and Perry was still correct to let him go. Better for him to try and regain some success elsewhere and let Schanuel get regular reps.
Walsh all day long X2!!
Yo – Blake Snell fans, you know who you are, “How do you like me now?” And his agent is still scratching his head over not getting a 10 year 250m contract, “What happened to my magic?”
Hey, what do I know? I thought that Calling and Detmers were going to fight for the CYA, barely half right.
I gave up on Sandoval last year. Anderson is a sweet surprise.
Cisnero to SLC for Jimmy Herget.
Herget has given up 3 HR’s in 7-1/3 innings of work this year at SLC . Not sure I would consider that much of an upgrade.
Well, that could mean that he has got the bad stuff out of his system. Since we all pile on Jimmy I thought that I’d just throw his name out there as Cisneros is last night fireplace coals.
A move that had to be made, not impressed with Cisnero. Jus a bad acquisition. I’m hoping recently signed Amir Garrett can harness his stuff and temper to become a left-hand option at some point. Nothing I am counting on.
It was a supposed to be a bit humor, but any way we look at it Cisneros is not a good addition.
were 6-4, since then 3-7 but!!! we are still just one loss behind the division lead. I think we’ll get through this scary stretch of the schedule in reasonably good position.

Adell should be in the line-up. Come on Wash.
Moniak needs some AB’s too. 😃
The problem is not Adell vs. Moniak, it’s Adell/Moniak vs. Hicks.
In this edition of the “Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” we have Angels fielding, baserunning, lack of clutch hitting (or hitting in general!) and horrible umps.
While we are looking for positives with the suddenly feckless Halos we can turn our attention to the fielding. Wash has made this a point of emphasis and it is already paying off : the Angels are 8th overall in MLB with a .987 Fielding % and to go with this they only have 9 errors total, that means only 6 teams are ahead of them with fewer errors. The new aggressive baserunning has paid off as well (occasional Jo Adell blunders notwithstanding), as the already have 25 stolen bases. There are some things to like.
The “Bad” is clearly the hitting, or more specifically hitting with runners in scoring position. Yesterday the Angels outhit the Reds 7 to 5 and yet only mustered one single run in losing. This kind of thing has to change or we’ll be seeing alot more losses.
The “Ugly” was the strikezone and ball/strike calls of HP umpire Larry Vanover who was especially generous to Nick Lodolo, giving him strikes on balls that were 5 inches outside on several occasions. Why does it seem the Angels get this kind of treatment from umps (especially in road games) much more than their opposition?
Hicks was supposed to help reduce the Ohtani offense deficit.
His .152/.220/.217 slashline is embarrassing and very unhelpful.
He’s Done…DFA Baby!!!
DFAed?! Source?
You’re familiar with the concept of speculation Y/N?
I thought you were declaring that he had been DFAed. Got my hopes up.
Opinions…that’s what we do here.
Or wishful thinking….
Hmmmm…indeed.

The good news is Anderson’s performance.
The bad news that’s the end of the good news.
another bullshit 3:40 start who cares what happened
At least the Angels didn’t sign Snell. I can just imagine the activity on here.
He’s sporting an ERA of 11.57 !!!
What’s the opposite of comeback player of the year
Angel trAdition Award
AAA award.
I had zero 0️⃣ interest in Snell.
I had some interest, though preferred Montgomery due to the draft pick compensation or Bauer because he costs nada.
But you never want to sign any FA’s so it is not like a great call or anything…
Fair point but not completely accurate. If you read my IIWPM you would see I had a lot of free agent signings. None of them were Snell.
Here it is if you want to revisit.

I get it but it’s early and I don’t support a guy signing that late to be ready this early in the season. Sure, Monty pitched 1 good game, but Snell has pitched in 3. Too early for me for either guy.
I wonder if Wash gives any combination of Rendon, Trout & Ward an off day tomorrow….
Obviously the pinner & Cisneros struggled, but our single biggest problem at the moment is batting.
Trout needs to crank it up again and the time is nigh for Drury to start driving the ball.
The power numbers aren’t there. But they’re striking out less, stealing more bases, advancing extra bases
I’m actually pleased thus far for points you’re calling out. I think we just need to get production from Wash’s RF rotation marathon, Neto of course and production from the 1st base position. The Pen is the issue.
Trout is doing ok actually. RISP is an issue. It’s really an overall lineup problem. Drury needs to hit for the lineup to be effective. Sano is a 6 hitter pretending to be a 4 or 5.
Rendon is a pesky hitter who can bat lead off or hit second or later, work counts, and get occasional timely hits
Trout is now your boom or bust guy via big swings but at least still has a good eye
Ward is a quality RBI guy. In other teams he’s likely a 5 hitter. Here he’s 3 or 4.
Moniak and Adell are wildcards. Box of chocolates guys to use a Forrest Gump reference.
Hicks is an older vet that is a 7 batter maybe when he plays.
Sano is a six hitter if/when he still has it.
Drury when he is hitting is good and can be a middle of the lineup guy. Not really fourth but beggars cannot be choosers.
O’Hoppe can likely hit fifth and maybe should.
Rengifo is talented but unreliable. Hope for the best wherever you put him.
Neto could maybe hit second but they like him last so that’s where he goes.
Again, Trout still has plenty of pop but can’t see ball that well anymore, especially when runners are on base. Dang, Rendone passed him in batting average !! How did that happen
Holy smokes, look at that dumpster fire! Must be our bullpen pieces, toss in Stephenson for some extra sizzle.
Adell is currently 5th on the team in both BA and SLG AVG. Not sure what that says. We knew going in this was going to be a long year. We are not going to score many runs and our pitching is inconsistent. The rebuilding of the bull pen is obviously an unfinished job. Starting pitching is not looking too bad. The 3rd quality start from Anderson in 4 outings. Still have serious concerns about the fact that our hitters strikeout too often and don’t walk much. Too many black holes in the line up, just have to ride it out.
Hilarious GIF usage (first for a postgame?)
