LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Fake Pregnancy

A Trevor Bauer accuser was indicted in Arizona for fraud or extortion related charges for attempting to shake Bauer down over a fake pregnancy. This appears to be a fourth woman, not one of the three we already know about.

Robert Stephenson will miss 2024 entirely due to an elbow injury. The Angels signed Bryan Shaw and Eliot Soto to minor league deals.

Ozzie Albies was hit by a pitch, suffered a broken toe, and wound up on the injured list. The Braves selected David Fletcher’s contract as a result. Garrett Whitlock has an oblique strain. Meanwhile Yu Darvish has neck tightness.

Most of the Rule 5 selections are sticking so far this year.

Not to rehash and bash the Nevin experience too hard.

If Rendon turns out to be the answer at lead-off??? Finger crossed……
I doubt (even if Rendon was available to play) Nevin would ever think to hit him there.

Another Nevin issue that appears to very different, micro-managing of the lineup. Last year they appeared to be obsessed with off days and managing rest, with the bullpen too.
I know they did that due to the higher than average injuries year after year for the Angels. And PTP probably had a huge hand in that decision too. They defaulted to babying players, where Wash appears to push guys. It’s early, but that might not be good come August and September if they run out of gas,

C’mon Canning, give us a good one today.

I assume that Moore & Esteves will be fully charged for today. Any chance that Canning throws 7 strong????

Canning is pretty average so I’m gonna say probably not.

His FB and off-speed pitches are extremely hittable and too close in velocity. Especially with his FB velo down to start the year, it exacerbates the problem.

Should’ve traded him in the offseason.

Give me average Canning from last year. Reminder, he was one of our most consistent starters last year. If he can regain MPH on his fastball, we can get that guy back. That guy can be a #5 on most teams in MLB.

I think most of the staff could be a #5 on another team and that’s been one of the issues for the team… What is needed is for guys to step it up and consistently be a #1-2 guy on any other team.

94-95 mph is more than enough if the player has good command, pitch mix, etc.

If I remember correctly, Canning started off pretty slowly last year too and really became more consistent as the year went on.

Maybe he is just a dude that needs a few starts before settling in.

I agree, I’ve wanted him gone for years, but he’s here now and I’d rather have him in sooner then later

Canning has issues making it through the lineup the 2nd time.

No Hicks in the lineup! Lets take the series.

Rendone 3B
Trout CF
Ward LF
Sano DH
Thaiss C
Moniak RF
Rengifo 2B
Schanuel 1B
Neto SS

Try not sucking today, Griff 🙂

When you read the lineup again, it is certainly different. Three guys hitting below .200. The offense-based second basemen with the iron glove is hitting .244 with no power. The number 4 hitter has one RBI — read that again. One.

Do we have a potential comeback player of the year in Ward? I have to admit, I was very nervous he could ever return to form.

I don’t think he was bad enough last year for this to be a comeback. It’s more of a “didn’t fall apart because of the injury.”

Tyler Anderson, however, is on path for the award.

Is the award only based on performance year-over-year or can it also be predicted on returning from a horrific injury?

I don’t know what the criteria are. If he’d missed most of the season for an injury, I’d call it a comeback. But he played 2/3rds of the season as an above-average hitter.

Ward deserves an accolade for not letting the injury slow him down, I just wouldn’t call it a “comeback”.

Dude if you get your face shattered by 95 MPH where they had to make sure one of your eyes doesn’t fall out and then you lead the majors in Ribbies?

That a Comeback All Day Long

East coast Angels fan here, I’ve been loving this start to the season with two east coast road trips. Having the games over at 9pm my time instead of starting at 9pm has been awesome. It helps that the games have been incredibly entertaining too

Amazing comeback win!

And for the first time, since maybe 2020, I don’t cringe when Rendon is the batter during critical situations. In fact, now, he’s one of the few you want in that situation – along with Trout, Ward and Logan. Man, what a turnaround. I really hope Tony stays healthy this season. Maybe Wash’s presence is also making a big difference for him, personally.

Kudos to Wash for putting all his eggs in the basket and finally making a lineup with Rendon-Trout-Ward-Logan as his 1-4. In a team where you don’t have much options, you just gotta go with your best hitters up there and give them the most ABs. You’re not really afforded a lot of tinkering at this point. Imagine if there was a blackhole #2 after Rendon last night, instead of Trout. Most likely they wouldn’t have pulled off the win.

It might have been Schanuel who had 3 hits

3 hits last night. But he’s been a blackhole before that, and that’s why he was dropped all the way down to the bottom.

I guess my point was – if it had been Schanuel or Rengifo last night, most likely, the game would have ended there, with Trout on the on-deck circle

Understood. Neither have been hitting at all lately before yesterday
