Angels outsmart Rays, barely win

Time to turn the page after yesterday’s game. And who better than Detmers? He went 5 and a third innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits, striking out 4 and walking 1. It was not nearly good enough for a game after a 13 inning marathon, but, perhaps the offense can allow Suarez to come in?

Well, Nolan had 2 hits and a Stolen Base, and Trout hit one way gone, so that was a plus! But they scored just 3 runs through 7 innings against a not so great Rays pitching staff. It would be a tough one yet again. Could the Angels do it?

Highlighted Recap

Trout got everyone excited with a home run in the first inning!

1-0 Angels

too bad the Rays tied it up with a sac fly in the 2nd.

Tied game

But the Angels got the lead back in the 5th thanks to Nolan, a sleepy pitcher, and Rendon.

2-1 Angels

Then Rengifo got another run across in the 6th.

3-1 Angels

The rays got that run back though in their bottom half of the inning.

3-2 Angels

The bullpen had a scoreless 7th, thanks to Neto.

WHEW

Sadly, without many options left, it was up to Strickland for the 8th and, well…

4-3 Rays

Now instead of 3 outs away, the Angels were down to their last 3. Nolan got his 3rd hit! Aaaaand Adell pinch ran for him. But a walk means 2 on for Rendon! Adell stole 3rd!

WOW

Nolan was ejected from the dugout because of the ump being a jerk. So Neto stole 2nd to spite them.

Rendon WITH A HIT THE ANGELS TAKE THE LEA-Neto was out.

Tied game

And Trout is walked, but WARD DRIVES IN RENDON!

5-4 Angels

Angels had to use Strickland again for the 9th because only Suarez was left who could be used. 1 out. 2 out. SUAREZ IS WARMING UP AHHHH! A single meant the winning run was at the plate. DIAZ FLEW OUT! ANGELS WIN!

Upcoming

One more vs the Rays tomorrow morning, because MLB hates us. Oh well, at least it will be the last game vs TB this year.

Nice to see the Halos fight back and get the win.

A lot of contributors got the W for the team.

Go Halos!

I mistakenly thought the club could send down Schanny and call up a pitcher, but it’s not that simple. They would need to either place a current pitcher on IL or designate a pitcher, not a position player.

Baseball reference projects Trout to hit 72 HRs and get 99 RBIs. That’d be humorous

We all know that Joyner-isk projections always come true-Trout out homers the steroid guy from SF in 2024

Is Cimber the real deal or Jimmy Herget 2.0? I hope for the best but expect the normal Angels results under Minasian.

Nail biter of a win, but still concerned that the Angels “best pitcher” only goes 5 1/3 innings. The team is already in bullpen trouble and it’s only April.

Damn, that injury to stephenson is a tough one. He was going to be the 8th inning shut down guy. If he’s here and healthy the angels have 2 more wins.

He paid for Wells. Rendon. Albert. HGH, Hamilton.

Arte does stupid shit continually as long as it’s idea. He’s the worst type of leader: he truly believes he’s the smartest guy in the room.

But also paid for MVP Vlad. Escobar. Cy Colón. Extended WTY and got a discount. So, it’s not always stupid.

Ha ha. Appropriate line ; that movie about Enron was called “The Smartest Guys in the Room.” Arte turned the org into a shit-show similar in scope to Enron.

But, the due theory can also apply……we’ll win some games

I did wonder why we didn’t keep Lopez last year …. I mean, he was pretty solid for us. I think he had only one bad outing in games that mattered. His stuff was better than anyone in the pen, Charlie Sheen included.

Ugh . this is not good news unless you are in the Jimmy Herget fan club. The Angels just signed Bryan Shaw but I think he’s toast anyways.

Joyce is at AA and I know he’ll be up at some point but he still needs some seasoning. our best bet to pitch effective high leverage innings this year is José Quijada and I dont think he’ll be available until the ASB.

its a 4th year club only option for $2.5 Million that can be triggered in 2027 if he has a major elbow injury prior to that. .

Robert Stephenson signed a 3 year / $33,000,000 contract with the Los Angeles Angels, including $33,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $11,000,000. In 2024, Stephenson will earn a base salary of $11,000,000, while carrying a total salary of $11,000,000..

I’m going to guess the Angels decline the 2027 option.

In the same way that a relief pitcher can’t give up runs or put men on base to manufacture a save situation, I don’t think a reliever who loses the win for the starter then his team gets the go ahead run – should get the W.
