The Angels hired pitcher Jose Cisnero to a one year deal yesterday and designated Livan Soto in the corresponding move. In related news, the Angels ranked pretty high on this list of the teams with the most work left to do this off season.
The White Sox acquired Dominic Fletcher from the Diamondbacks in exchange for righthander Christian Mena.
The Mariners acquired right-hander Gregory Santos from the White Sox in exchange for their 2024 Round B Competitive Balance pick, right-hander Prelander Berroa, and outfielder Zach DeLoach. The Mariners also signed Heath Hembree to a minor league deal. The Cardinals designated right-hander Guillermo Zuniga for assignment to make room for Keynan Middleton. Middleton gets a guaranteed $6 Million. The Twins signed veteran right-hander Jay Jackson to a major league deal pending a physical.
Adrian Beltre will wear a Rangers cap in the Hall of Fame while Jim Leyland will have no logo.

So it would seem there are two levels of speculation here.
1. That Arte is about to sell the team.
There is apparently a source within MLB that this is going to happen soon. I would say that if the information actually comes from a source (as is asserted) then I guess there is at least a chance this could happen. So I’d call this somewhat speculative.
2. Mark Cuban is going to buy the Angels.
This seems to me to be blatant speculation.
Welp no one else here in the Webisphere thinks otherwise
Yeah, there’s many a slip twixt the stool and the door when it comes to any baseball team getting sold even if Arte’s leaning that way…. which he should be by now….
The fact the ‘rumor’ of an impending sale was spread on MLB Radio, a station owned by MLB, gives it possibly a bit more credibility. Very strange they would allow a story like that without some basis.
Infield chatter …
https://halohangout.com/posts/could-mark-cuban-buy-angels-amid-swirling-rumors-01hns39beq1q
Seems pretty speculative but we can hope!
But Rodger Lodge says “No way Jose” https://twitter.com/RogerLodge7/status/1754596642131779846
Good ol Rog’. Does he still sing, “S-C-I-Oooo, S-C-IAaaa”
Agree, this is all bar talk and my glass is empty.
Should we not take that as a sign that is going to happen for sure?
the most depressing thing I’ve read this off-season…
https://www.mlb.com/news/angels-reinforced-their-bullpen-for-2024
Perry being asked questions and giving non-answers
Why is this depressing? its just the SOS
that’s why! On paper this bullpen is not really better than last year’s pre-season.
Sure it is….trAdition
Then it’s not….trAdition
That’s the trAdition.
It is if you like gas. We gots lots and lots of gas this year .
This just in…
Dodgers sign Snell, Bellinger and Chapman for $10 / 6 years each, with an extra $300MM each payable between 2045 and 2060.
Nice
We should sign Bauer and pay $10000 a year for 200 years.
And according to the CBT calculations that would account for about $875 against the cap.
No truth to the rumors that the Halos were going to have a 2024 season Ohtani bobble head that only bobbled from left to right and back again in a “No nod.”
The NOhtani bobble head.
“USA Today Predicts J.D. Martinez to Land With Angels”
Just when we whine…er….discuss nothing is going on……..
JD Martinez has been consistently a really good hitter and if one bat is all you needed he would be a great pick up, or if he could play 1B or 3B. But this team needs a lot more than that going forward and you’d like to have the DH spot possibly available for Trout a couple of days a week. After this year they may need 2B, a 3B, maybe an OF, and worst case a 1B, along with a DH. I would rather the team make moves that that potentially improve the team long term while allowing them to evaluate their young players. Either Montgomery or Snell, and Bellinger, for the right price and years could be good long term additions. Assuming you did your due diligence with Bellinger and convinced yourself of his performance level going forward, he would provide a back up for Trout, Schanuel, and a corner OF or DH.
When have you believed USA Today for anything?
And now, you and I are in 100% agreement.
I won’t tell anyone! 🙂
Not at all, just whining that we talk about the halos really doing nothing and rumors appear about (Potential) moves that will probably solve nothing. I shan’t believe anything until TMZ reports on it, then it’s fact.
Rec for effective use of Shan’t in a sentence.
l learnt that in public skool.
USA Today. News for Stupid.
That’s an insult to “Stupid”. More like news for the grey matter devoid.
Remember when it was different because of all the graphics and it was in color.
USA sports page was great back in the ‘80s and ‘90’s….all the little news nuggets. Finding a free copy somewhere out in the wild was exciting.
Newspapers😀! How adorable!
Of all newspapers closing its doors, how are they still around?
Forced readership in hotel rooms around the world.
Much like CNN in airports.
Well, it looks like the LA Times will soon be following the Herald Examiner into the dustbin of history.
One can only hope and I’ll mock them as they fade into oblivion. Bye Felicia.
Can the NY Times face the wall next?
JMO, but the longer this drags out, the more likely it is that Snell, Montgomery, Get Beli with it, et al, will settle for less – far less – coin than they anticipated….
Could very well happen. I think all three are asking for more than they are worth but someone might be foolish enough to pay.
And probably Chapman and J.D. as well. At this rate I wonder if Borass is going to open his own Free Agent spring training camp to ensure all his unsigned clients stay in shape.
Usually that’s us, but I don’t see it this time.
Agreed. Lots of usual players in the FA market have learned their TV deals are only in place for 2024.
No way I’m signing an 8 year deal to a guy when I have 1 year of money rolling in. Not for huge money, anyway.
I wonder if some of them will take higher AAV, shorter term deals so they can hit free agency again once the TV situation is clearer in two years.
I think this may end up happening. Perhaps even a one year bridge deal could occur with some of these top level guys on the market.
Yeah, let me dream my unlikely little dream…
….well, until some MLB player announces he sustained an “Injury” shortly before ST and then some of the remaining FA values will go through the roof.
Sure, but that’s a heck of a game of who blinks first.
Looks like a big chunk of last year’s blowpen will be in AAA this year.
At least two of Joyce, Wantz, and Herget. Possibly all three. And with the guaranteed salaries to guys like Kolerak and Plesac they’ll pass through waivers as well.
I can only think of this as a good thing.
Oh, so that’s why we haven’t won in so many years….
https://www.instagram.com/baseballpastpresentfuture/p/C2-kcbjPSzx/
We just need moar dingers!
Ingram claimed by Tigers.
Cue media reports that Angels were foolish to let an incredibly good pitcher get away.
But their farm still has no talent.
His minor league numbers look good. Detroit cut loose a left handed utility guy to make room. Seems like there could’ve been a trade there.
I would agree.
I just checked Maton has no options left, had a horrible offensive year last year and The vaunted Fielding Bible is not so kind to his limited MLB defensive work.
This one is pass for me Jeff.
Even though hes not a LHH, IWT The Angels would be better off, just to promote LeBlanc onto the 40 sometime before his opt out. he’s pretty good hitter but seems to be much better defensively and still has all 3 options left even after hes added to the 40 man. And as an added bonus he’s French Canadian
Besides, Maton is too close to Maitan.
Detroit released him in the first place when Ingram was released back in 2020.So maybe they’re trying to right a wrong.
IDK he kind of reminds me of Mike Holtz. Diminutive lefty who has good minor league numbers but for the most part, gets pounded into oblivion at the Major league level no matter how many opportunities he will get .
I don’t think the media “hates” the Angels because we’re too irrelevant to generate such emotion.
Stephen A Smith agrees https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_C1ci2-6gIg
No, the Halos are the freckled undersized kid that the pituitary gland bullies have and continue to beat up on so many times, others just join in because they’re bored.
That’s a wee bit worse than being irrelevant.
So…..are going to manufacture some Halos-Snell or Halos-Bellinger or halos Bellinger & Snells synergy today?
……..welllllllllllll allllllllrighty then
Belli! Belli! Belli!
obviously, all the headline signings like this are just waiting for the DHs to report Dodger complex in Glendale so Arte is the one who has the headlines that day.
This dude looks like a mobbed up Teamsters Union head, circa 1962.
That’s Melvin Belli, not Jimmy Hoffa.
He’s still LOOKS like a mobbed up union boss nonetheless.
The Angels lost one of their all time great coaches and instructors. Marcel Lachemann’s older brother Bill passed away over the weekend . He was a long time roving minor league catching instructor in the minor leagues among other roles. He was credited with the development of many Angel catchers including the Molina boys, Naps and Premium just to name a few.
R.I. P. Bill
https://twitter.com/TaylorBlakeWard/status/1754199682761490573
That was sad, read some of the stories about him, he loved the game and gave a lot to it.
RIP Lach and sympathies to Marcel and family
Spring training just wont be the same – nice guy.
Despite all the changes the last 20 years, one thing was constant in Tempe – this grizzly, white haired gent would be always be around no matter who the manager was
always in shin guards.
an unsung pillar of the Halos.
I had a couple of great conversations with him a few Spring Training’s back. Just an awesome dude. RIP Bill.
I bet he goes out with his shin guards still on. That guy would walk around Tempe with them on 100% of the time.
No doubt. He’d want it that way.
Good for the Royals for locking up their homegrown superstar. And good for Bobby Witt for wanting to build a winner with his first (and last) MLB team, and wanting to be that one-team superstar like Derek Jeter and Dustin Pedroia (and maybe Mike Trout).
Golly, that Bobby Witt extension….
Getting to be the trend.
Maybe we should lock up Neto and O’Hoppe to 14-year $350MM extensions right now.
if we give them big contracts, we have issues at the trade deadline when we try to trade for short-term starting pitching help and a 37 yr old DH.
Bobby Witt looks like a good young player and he’s had 1 year at that performance level. They are hugely overpaying him even if he duplicated 2023 for the next 10 years. He’s put up 1 better than average year and they gave him a super star contract.
The best news I heard all weekend, no it was not Cisneros, rumor that Arte is punching out. With having seen what the Orioles sold for and the Dodgers stole his prized possession, he is done and his quest for LA market share took a huge hit. I can only hope…
Yes please
By the way are there any links to articles on this issue? I haven’t been able to find any.
The article I saw was in Facebook by some blogger that noted how “all the fans want Arte to sell”. The article was 💯 % speculation and referenced nothing beyond the author’s dislike of Arturo.
I guess people are attempting to wish it into reality
Agreed
If Arte takes home the prize for the “who’s the foolish owner willing to pay Snell” then he is not selling.
Maybe. Maybe not.
I think Snell’s price has dropped and dropping. Is there any number in which you would be willing to bite?
Say 125 million?
Yes, I would pay him 25M per year for 5-6 years. 25M would not an be an excessive hit to the payroll and I think you could likely count on him being a better than average performer over the length of the contract. He would provide stability while you developed home grown talent.
Unfortunately for us, the Yankees have already offered that amount.
And we know the narrative for players preferring to play for some teams instead of others…
That’s correct on both points. I believe he wants to play for the Yankees and they have already offered him 6/150.
Yes they did but that was prior to them signing Stroman. So there’s no guarantee that number is still on the table.
Good point, maybe we can sneak in.
Considering what numerous “meh” players are making, 25 million per year for Snell would be a solid get for the Angels IMO.
Hard for me to say as I am not too keen on his future, no more than 3-years. You’ll thank me later.
Or he is selling to an even foolisher owner?
I mean a day after the Orioles sale was announced they made the trade for Corbin Burnes.
Coinkydink?
Timing was interesting but the Orioles did not extend a contract, just shuffled bodies. I don’t think Burnes is all the expensive. Issuing a healthy $150M commitment to a contract likely to go bad does not seem like a good move if he was selling.
Did the authors initials happen in to start with ‘F’ and end in ‘71’ ???
Haha
Did the guys Facebook avatar have a birthday hat on?
I doubt the Orioles deal motivated him to sell . In fact Everyone in the industry is surprised the price was too low. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/1753049442276843935 If anything, I would think this would motivate him to hold onto the team.
But it’s always good to dream right?
You’re right. Funny, I looked it up this AM and I thought that seemed low but still the 3rd richest in history? I guess unless it is the Yanks or Dodgers, MLB teams are not like the other major sports.
The Phoenix Suns sold for $4B the same time Arte had his club for sale.
I think an MLB franchise in So Cal would be worth more than an NBA franchise here in PHX. Arte probably thinks so too but Mr. Market says to the best knowledge, the value is it is somewhere north of $3B.
Put some new paint on the Big A, throw in some condos and shops and Arte can easily see $4B.
***And while i mention the stadium, it stuns me a bit to see how fast The Walt Disney Corporation is moving and able to move to put a third park in west of DTD (lots happening with city/planning in 2024), while its just crickets for St College Blvd/Katella.
And I guarantee you that Disney is eyeing the stadium property and the surrounding parking lot, etc. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were pulling strings behind the nixing of the original deal Arte had.
I think that 1.7 Billz is basically for 60% of the team…. or less? If I recall the new owners are kind of buying in phases.
The way I read the deal that was total team evaluation amount but who knows?
This shit is normally reported on by people who are not that proficient in basic math.
THe rumor and Mark Cuban stuff felt super BS to me.
I think people might just be speculating why hes not spending
BUT…Cuban would be incredible!!!
Ballmer>>Cuban
Kroenke would be most bestest!!
For sure.
First of all, Cuban is not even his real name. He’s a multi-level phony.
Plus he went to Indiana University. We cant have Hoosiers owning our beloved baseball team.
Could be worse… we could have some parking lot attendant from Bah-stin buying the team.
Who still owns a certain parking lot in the latrine. I wonder if he will be jacking the rates this season? 😆
Well at least he’s the French Soccer league Ligue 1’s problem now.
I guess the fans hate him there and have rioted on numerous occasions. But That must make him feel right at home like being in the parking lot and stands for a Doyers-Giants game.
It makes me smile several times a year to know that Frank McNuttin is still making money off the Doyer fans. Like a shitty ex-girlfriend from when you were 20 who is still collecting child support cause you couldn’t pull out.
You’d think Doyer fans would appreciate the old comfy feeling…..
Luis Rengifo and Taylor Ward made MLBs All Underrated team
Evan Longoria is still unsigned at 38, would make a good back up possibly as his starting full-time days are done, and Chapman will cost a lot more than Arturo is likely to authorize anyway. I bet he will take just about any amount to play one more season and he might have some value in July because of injuries to other clubs. Just a thought.
Yes. Longoria could possibly be a cheap alternative that can play 3B and 1B plus DH a little. There are worse ideas.
Yes AS and Arte is certainly chasing them……
But can she pitch ?
….apparently a lot of mature women (Age defying) beauty products…..
She’s still hot.
(Ok, that was one year ago, but recent enough)
Would.
Nice dress.
https://youtu.be/c-k9VE-eEY4?si=i__MD7oWxichqtgs&t=17
Longoria is going to turn 39 this year. He hasn’t managed more than 266 ABs in 4 straight seasons. Last year he played in 74 games. His production has been way down since his mid 30s and now he is closer to 40. Other than a recognizable name, I just don’t see why the Angels would sign him other than for maybe 1 year and $1.5m. And why would he, a very rich man, want to move his family for that? Also there is some talk about his possible retirement. He is in the process of deciding whether to hang up his spikes.
Wow, this Cisneros move shows us that Arte is going all in this year. We have entered the Big Market category.
Everyone stay warm-stay dry- stay safe today in SoCal 🌂 ⚡ ☔ ❄
The drive in this morning not so bad, I am already dreading the drive back…..
Good morning, Angels faithful, just 7 days until the big game, made your plans yet? We are headed out, if the snow and ice allow to my son and his brides and get to see my newest Granddaughter while we sit with the KC fans side of the room. My son and his buddies are on the SF side.
Mark Feinstein has suggested that the Halos pursue Gary Sanchez, and my reply is why. He can’t field and hitting is a challenge.
In a week and a half we will be getting under way, can’t wait.
Got up early to check out how much snow I have to shovel, it rained all night-good grief and smh. 👌 ❄ 🏂
