Mike Trout visited a top spine specialist who gave him some good news. He needs to do some rotational exercises, but as soon as his rotation is OK he can begin taking batting practice. Reid Detmers had an immaculate inning over the weekend. Jimmy Herget is back and Chase Silseth was optioned to AAA. Sonny Dichiara is having a smashing time as a Trash Panda. Shohei Ohtani weighs in on the great hamburger controversy. The Dodgers have checked in with the Angels concerning a Shohei Ohtani trade. It still doesn’t seem likely.
The Angels Followed their rather terrible game Friday with an offensive explosion on Saturday.
The Seattle Mariners landed Luis Castillo late on Friday. While they obviously want to win now, they have a bunch of guys hovering around the injured list. That could prove inconvenient. They are still throwing at batters.
The Brewers will activate Freddy Peralta from the 60 day injured list this week. Mackenzie Gore of the Padres will be out probably until September with inflammation in his throwing elbow.

The Dodgers are in on Juan Soto. They are also in on Marlins starter Pablo López. Fully expect LA to land Soto. That will push Bellinger out of LA. Dude went Hollywood like Matt Kemp. I’m liking Pablo Lopez. LA – Astros series again.
Make sense. Cardinals dropped their pursuit on Ohtani to land Jose Quintana.
Totally If I ain’t getting the Japanese Babe Ruth, my plan B has to be Carlos Quintana.
I’d definitely take a Black Magic Woman
Well his true friends call him Carlos but we all know him as Jose . Not sure if Quintana knows Santana though
“Noah Syndergaard trade becoming more likely, sources say; Blue Jays, Phillies and Braves involved in talks over past 48 hours.”
Let’s get Biggio.
Will take more than Thor to get Biggio
Agree but maybe Perry can ask his old club for a favor cuz he will get shit-canned soon if he doesn’t impress the CtPG faithful.
I actually think Jeff did a SIM on this trade as the Angels were getting Biggio.
Cavan sucks and his Dads too old
Let’s get Bichette
Now that will clearly take more than Syndergaard. Won’t happen.
Needs a change of scenery and it’s Thor whose beyond help. I’m just happy he gets traded.
Rumors are that Raisel is included in the Blue Jays talks for Syndergaard
Not evirybuddy has to work for Jefff Puhzan at ESPN……
Mayebee you should uhceptthat forr wunce!!!!!
💪 💪 💪 💪 💪
All of the many “Trade Ohtani” boners are now flaccid. Noone would’ve been happy if Shohei was traded. We would’ve never rec’d adequate compensation.
Well the Euphoria wouldn’t have last more than 24 hours thats for sure.
I just don’t see a scenario where the Angels keep him long term and are able to be competitive.
The Ohtani situation will leave everyone unhappy. If he is traded, the franchise will not receive equivalent talent in return. If Ohtani does not re-sign and exits at the end of 2023 season, it’s a loss that will never be overcome. If Ohtani does re-sign, the franchise will have two of the greatest players of this generation that play on teams that struggle to achieve winning records.
I know this is an unpopular take as some believe retaining Ohtani solves a problem. That’s okay – I want to believe too.
You’ve used a bunch of words here to say absolutely nothing of value.
You’re still here?
Jim Hill KCBS SAYS he won’t be traded AND I WAS RIGHT YET AGAIN~~~
PIECE OF CAKE………LIKE CALCULUS EQUATIONS FOR WILL HUNTING……..
💪 💪 💪 🤘
THEN maybe we should just trade Squid Velazquez and ho[e we get adequate compensation
What? Matt Joyce retired?
Perry couldn’t convince him to come back to us for depth?
I was surprised that he was still in the league.
We just drafted his son, Ben, so time to ReJoyce
So Arte keeps Ohtani for multiple reasons, money is the only one really, but here is the rub. If the Angels are ever going to compete ever again to make the playoffs, he now has to spend money and a lot of it if he is smart. Not that he ever did many smart things since purchasing the team, but now he has to allow PTP to fill the holes with legit players. No more Wade’s, Duffy’s, Goslin’s, Mayfield’s, Suzuki’s, or Villar’s. If he makes anybody who is GM fill in with the Sluggo variety, then not only is he Stupid and Cheap, but senile is also appropriate. If this team does not make significant improvements them Shohei or not the Angels attendance will seriously suffer along with huge drops in Radio and TV ratings.
The time to not fill in the MI with duffys and velazquezes was this year. so expect more of the same.
I think that you are right, but with Ohtani not resigned, then the time has come for this off season to be critical as time has been forced upon him to do the right thing. He might consider even selling the team and call it quits.
…..he now has to spend money and a lot of it if he is smart. Not that he ever did many smart things since purchasing the team,….
Sigh…So quickly they forget.
November 24, 2003 Signed Kelvin Escobar $47,250,000/6 years
December 10, 2003 Signed Bartolo Colon $51,000,000/4 years
December 20, 2003 Signed Jose Guillen $9,700,0000/3 years
January 14, 2004 Signed Vladimir Guerrero $82,000,000/6 years
Perry is trading in his 2019 BMW and $25,000 cash for a new Mercedes.
Did he consummate the deal at Del Taco on Katella?
Yes. He had to throw in 3 tacos and a burrito. But he got it done
As you all know, I (we) hate the Skanks, yet I’m happy to report that they are currently thrashing the Mariners, 6-2 after 4. I hate the Mariners fans as much as I hate the Skank fans…maybe even more because their team head hunts, then they whine about getting hit in the keister. They refused to blame Wanker for heading to our dugout. They refuse to believe Servais orders his pitchers to buzz Trout, to bean Altuve. Ooooooo…I hate ’em!!
So I’m enjoying the Ms lack of success, first against the Cheaters and now against the Skanks.
I’d still rather see the Yankees lose
I guess for me I don’t mind the Mariners. Tier 0.5 is Astros. Tier 1 Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers.
What pieces of the scrapheap might make some sense to add? Gallo? Fan favorite Phillips?
On a side note, I love the haul that the Brewers got for Hader. Mark this now, the Lamet throw in piece is going to make the Brewers win that trade.
Not sure if Lamet is a “throw in” even now. It wasn’t long ago that he was near untouchable and it took his arm basically falling off for him to become a tradeable piece, even. If he lasts long enough, he’ll be something, but that’s a big if.
Damn 240 comments already. Flashbacks to the prime Halosheaven days…tears in the eyes
Considering today doesn’t exist, it might be a record for days on the calendar that aren’t really there
Ah yes the Haloscyon days
They’re really gonna keep the entire band together?
They’re pulling a Rockies…
Isn’t the deadline tomorrow?
“This year’s MLB trade deadline will pass at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 2.”
yes. There’s tonight and tomorrow. Thor will get us our 2nd round pick back. But I wish he’d tell Perry “hey, offer me $10 mil and I’m in”
I think Thor will get us a prospect in the 12 to 15 range in a good farm system. No way we get a more significant prospect. Thor is t that good
Thor? Then what is he good for?
Absolutely nuttin’- say it again
I think we might be able to squeeze a 7-10 rank guy if we kick in $7M to the new team.
Signing Syndergaard turned out to be a flawed acquisition. Not that good and lost a second round draft pick (when the team already had a crappy farm). Organizational malpractice.
The matter was further compounded when Perry failed to plug all the middle infield holes on the roster and committed to two unproven OFs, Heckle and Jeckle. Team never had a chance.
I was really hoping for Stroman. I know he didn’t dominate this season, but I figured he was a decent pitcher and didn’t cost a draft pick. Or Rodon (wow, that would have turned out nicely). I agree that signing Thor, even at the time, was a real head-scratcher.
The calendar messed me up with it being 8AM on the 2nd here locally.
So what MLB news will we hear by tomorrow morning then?
Arte is still evil, the Astros and Yanks are stronger, and Soto is buying a palatial estate in San Diego
Angels sign Kurt Suzuki to new 8 year, $163 mi contract
That’s Baseball Executive of the Year stuff
And he had 5 minutes to decide if he’d take it?
Are you that guy that calls other time zones completely clueless to local time?
I stop calling people back home while over here. Lot less stress dealing with my… unique parents.
“We don’t need no stinkin’ deadline”
Pham going …. somewhere…..
I thought for sure Thor would be traded…
there’s still 23 1/2 hrs to go. Maybe Perry will do something extreme
Common guys there’s still time. Why so mopey? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKrLfpdN4vY
True. But I haven’t even seen a whisper about a potential anything involving us.
Other than Trout and Ohtani, we ain’t got nuttin’ worth trading for
Thor retained should net us something halfway decent no? Loup and Tepera…prolly need to wait another year and a bounce back for actual prospects and not 26 year old AAers
The only reason he wouldn’t be is if they extended him and I can’t imagine he would do that.
he’s been busy trading Ohtani
sources say he will bring a bigger return
I guess I really don’t follow the NL as closely, because I had never heard of Austin Riley…
Coach Pat’s kid? 😂
You mean Joan Rivers and Austin Powers surrogacy spawn?
The team is a dumpster fire. They need to make some moves and build this team back up starting now. Quit embracing mediocrity Angels jeez
I wish they were that good
Yep. Embracing mediocrity is a huge step up from embracing the suck
Sorry for sounding negative
Was agreeing with you. 😎👍
They’re trying to be like the Rockies and just sit there during the deadline
Duh. Thats what mountains do.
They need to make moves?
Why, just so you’re not bored. ?
He’s not entirely wrong. Even a personnel change would suffice. Doing nothing would subject the fan base to medieval torture.
It seems he was talking about players, not management.
If he said or meant management I would be all on board.
fitting that on the day that didn’t exist we don’t have a game. Still waiting to see what Perry does.
Can’t gut the lineup if there is no game. *taps temple with finger
Wonder if we’d have better luck if our GM was William “The Refrigerator” Perry?
alternatives: Perry Como, Perry White, Perry Mason
us kids like Luke Perry and Katie Perry
I’d rather have the Commodore.
Ha. You’re funny. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_C._Perry
But I think he was also in Friends
Unfortunately, Admiral Perry just died, after giving the anti-Kaylon device to the Krill and the Moclans.
Coulda been him:. Also a Commodore Perry.
Mariners just scooped up Villar.
He will be LDS MVP.
He’s not just waiver wire trash…he is Angel waiver wire trash.
Smells like desperation.
The rare subtraction by addition move.
Yes – possible MVP of Mormonism …can become an elder and stuff
Man we really should have kept Joe Smith.
A true LDS MVP right there
Are you saying Perry did a little too much LDS back in the ’60s?
Yes – a dyslexic druggie
Or, it could be that the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) made him a bit crazy. Which would be understandable
I miss Alias.
I miss Toga parties
Dominos starting to fall
This just in…. yes, we are pretty sure the Yankees have bought this year’s World Series. Asshole fans everywhere can rejoice as though they had anything to do with this monster payroll winning a single game.
I really liked Mancini as an affordable option for the Halos. Much more consistent than Walsh with the bat.
Yeah. Signing him and trading Ohtani makes our Corner OF/1B/DH mix Trout (I moved him), Ward, Walsh, Mancini.
Not horrible at all.
I’m not running it back with Walsh next year, just can’t. Great guy but…just can’t. In fact, I think the Angels looked into acquiring Mancini as a right handed compliment to Walsh or was it Voit? But Mancini should play everyday. I bet he will do good and resign with the Astro’s on the mutual option for $10M.
“I just can’t.” Lol.
You say that like it is your responsibility to decide.
Fortunately it is not your decision, lol.
We already have a right handed compliment in AA. He’s Thicc with talent.
I wonder if that tank will be a Prince Fielder or Mo Vaughn type of hitter
He’s played what 2 or 3 MiLB games and he’s been anointed as talented?
Where’s Jeff Biggs to pimp him as “MVP Material”
I just can’t either. Hopefully Jared gets coached better and makes adjustments this/next year
Yeah, you may remember Angels were thinking of a platoon in spring training. I.e. the failed Upton experiment, former dirt bag, Duffy, Ward….etc. how about we get a full time run producer?
You’re right, Wal-Mart sells them in the Dollar bin. Are we going to get a better First Baseman making his same money that fields like him. Do you think maybe a SS or back up at third or OF or another starter or Catcher or even BP help might be better options to consider?
I’m not a very technical person when it comes to batting, but it seems that Jared pushed hard for power this season. I really hope some tinkering (ala-Taylor Ward pre-injury, or Chris Taylor) helps him get back on track. He fills a need and he’s cheap. His defense is still top-notch (at least according to the eye test). He doesn’t have to be a power hitter. Leave that to Shohei. He’s best when he’s hitting singles and doubles with runners on base.
I am not sure I agree that he has been “trying for power” in 2022, but I do agree that he is at his best hitting the ball back up the middle and the other way. Last season he showed great power to LCF and RCF. This was the result of solid contact and good mechanics…
Really, Walsh’s swing is that of a line-drive hitter. The HR numbers are in a sense accidental or just luxus. This is why I would not give up on Walsh. His swing is solid. Not sure what the main issue is this year, but my guess is just a down year. It would have been very hard to duplicate last season anyway.
Three times better?
Three times a lady
This is good news. It looks like Perry has done another good job implementing his draft strategy now we just need to find player development success. https://twitter.com/TaylorBlakeWard/status/1554168087372386305
Does any one else find it ironic though that the only player we didn’t sign from our 2022 draft is a JC catcher from Puerto Rico?
Need all the talent we can get.
Failed to sign 14th round JC Catcher…. Perry is obviously out of his depth and is just a sock puppet, filled with Arte’s dark and evil fist.
If we only had a POBO… 😂
It’s true. See, the POBO would have used his vastly different skill set and job duties, along with his ability to act completely outside the knowledge and input of the owner, to look into Sabin’s soul and offer him his deepest desire… or his greatest fear. A mere General Manager can’t do that.
if the franchise wants to change the outcome, they must change the players, process, and methods.
Sounds about right tbh.
River. Side. Meth. Savages.
New band name!
need to be Top 3.
i mean, if we want to win a championship
Historically, top 3 payroll does not equal championships. While the Yankees have spent more than any other team over the last 20 seasons, it did give them a great W-L record (best overall in that span), but not a lot of Championships.
In fact, over that 20 season span the highest payroll equated into only 3 championships. If you add top 3 to the equation, 6 Teams out of 20 won the WS (33ish% of Championships went to the top 3 spenders). Hmm.. top 3 are 6-14, maybe there’s something to it.
Unless of course your speaking of Western Division Championships (great for dick swinging quotes like “we fly flags”) as winning championships.
Which, I highly doubt you are 🙂

So let me see if I understand: the team with good pitching, good hitting and got hot during the playoffs has the best chance to win it all?
You catch on quick 😅
The team with “good pitching” and “good hitting” does not need to “get hot.” They are just good, lol.
You better not show this to Arte.
…and we don’t
Let me see if I understand you, correctly we have missed the playoffs 12 times in the last 13 years with a top ten payroll and you are saying this is not the desired outcome, correct? Maybe it’s working out just like Artie planned it?
It is. The evil…. it’s goals…. they are not our goals….
I’m not sure there’s ever been a plan. We just flail from extreme to extreme
Maybe we need to just turn the page, it worked before.
Perry fielding offers now feels like it was an easy way to determine Ohtani’s trade value for a future trade.
The Angels have to know that Ohtani doesn’t want to remain a Halo.
By fielding offers, the Angles also know this was going to alienate Ohtani further.
It sure feels as though the Angels are preparing to trade Ohtani down the road….
The silence from the front office is the scary part. You would think if they weren’t shopping him, somebody would come out and say these reports were BS.
meh. too much talking and a whole other group says “what a bunch of idiots showing their hand!”
Except it’s not. Also what is the long term goal with Ohtani? If it’s to extend him (hopefully), you definitely quash the rumors before people ask him about it (oops, too late). If it is to trade him, then might as well do it now and prepare for another massive L from the front office.
Any way it shakes out it’s a massive L. trÅdition
They’re shopping him. Also, I don’t think a deal is dead just because Heyman, who is used constantly as leverage, comes out and says it.. Sure this might go on throughout the offseason, but something might materialize by tomorrow.
I hope not 😐
Agree. The only thing predictable about Arte and the boys is being unpredictable
I don’t think they are shopping him, never have been. But they are listening to offers. If some team comes around, say the White Sox, and offers Dylan Cease and Luis Robert plus 4 solid prospects for him…. yeah, they may take that.
I don’t want him to go, but if the Mets are serious, something around Alvarez and Beaty +, their top 2 prospects that play positions we desperately need, would be interesting.
yah, I’d take that.
Our FO under Arte has always played their cards close to their chest. Nothing new here. As fans, we’re just as much in the dark as everyone else. That leads to a whole lot of hand wringing and wild speculation until something finally happens. Same thing happened before Trout’s big deal happened. Only difference is Ohtani doesn’t have the infamous wife whose family is on the east coast. Instead he has the mom who’s on the east east coast.
I don’t know. We didn’t rest Ohtani at all the past week like we did Thor. It seems to me they weren’t going to trade him all along. They were simply answering calls to find out what his trade value was – just doing their homework. Nothing wrong with that – no obligation to tell us fans anything until afterwards. At the end of the day they tell Ohtani he wasn’t going anywhere and all is good.
If they are going to sign him to an extension, they should figure out his street value. This process helped that a bit. His valuation is the toughest perhaps of all time, so some due diligence is needed.
However, if we fail to sign him AND fail to trade him next year, what a reflection of terrible mismanagement (unless we are challenging for a WS title…lol…).
There’s a REALLY REALLY wide space between listening to offers and shopping a player.
How do you know that with this front office? In general, I would agree, but these guys do not get the benefit of the doubt from me:
If they were shopping him, calling around offering him in trades, it would have made news.
But hey, “You never know” is also great. It works for literally everything.
Why would they not play Thor, but play Ohtani literally everyday if they were hoping for a boat load of players in a trade? That just seemed fishy all along
