That two run jack by Neto was a thing of beauty.

All in all, taking 2 games on the road versus Houston is a net positive. Particularly when Trout and the offense writ large look really good.

Disagree here Banned. Being satisfied with a split after you are up 2-0 in the series is a loser’s mentality. We needed to WIN this series and we failed. That is a big thing, not just in the standings where today’s game represented a full TWO GAMES in the race, but psychologically.

Fortunately, the season is young. But lessons need to be learned. When you are up you need to go for the jugular, not just in the individual game but the series.

In a vacuum, I agree with your position here. Obviously winning the series is far preferable.

That said, expecting us to hold leads on a consistent basis with mediocre pitchers like Detmers and below average pitchers like Silent-C is unrealistic and I didn’t even mention our bullpen.

Houston has been kicking our tails during recess and taking our lunch money for 15 years so demonstrating that we can go toe-to-toe with them by giving as good (or better) than we got is progress from a psychological perspective in my book.

Mostly I agree with the final paragraph, except for your conclusion. I say that BECAUSE they have been kicking our ass and taking our lunch money, that is why we owe them. It is time to return the favor ! There is a time when little brother gets big enough to beat his big bro in one on one. That time for us is NOW. We are a more talented group than the Astros. This is not the Houston team of 5 years ago. We SHOULD beat them. Their roster is really not that scary. If you pitch around Alvarez they are very beatable.

Dude it’s 4 games in. You’re gonna stroke out. Chill. This team isn’t expected to do much of anything so no need to treat this like the fate of the planet depends on it.

You can fan the way you like and I will too. Actually, I never really considered you a “fan” despite your moniker. More of an Angels blogosphere troll…or something like that…..

Well, at least we still lead the American League in runs scored. 😀

still only a half game out of first. My fave stat is Trout’s OPS, my second fave is Cal Raleigh’s .077 batting average

Despite Raleigh’s embarrassing BA after they win tonight the Mariners will have the identical record as us at 2-2.. If that does not scare you it should ….

Truly a series of unfortunate events. Could have easily ended this series 4-0.

The silver lining is the offense. So far this new philosophy is a breath of fresh air. 28 walks already, 7 from Trout. Even the guys not known for walking are up there (Neto 5, Moncada 4, Soler 4). Hopefully this stays consistent through the season.

Trout looks locked in and healthy. Maybe the last two years of not starting the season healthy and that move to RF really did some bad juju on the mental part of his game. He looks much more like himself in the batters box knowing he’s playing in CF.

New hitting coaches working their magic early on. Hopefully Magic Mike catches up soon too.

It’s 4 games. Some good, some bad. In a month, things should shake out differently. There are some strong arms in the minors, who might get a shot to pitch a few bullpen innings. Get the veterans who already look like they are coasting out of the lineup and get some new blood in there.
Stay at or near 500 and most will be pleased.

Eh, I think the baseball gods were just displeased with your hubristic yawps and repetitive attacks against this community for indulging in everything from scouting to analytics to “realism”. It created such a miasma of bad juju, predestiny had to reassert its privilege.

Two days ago it was all rakish taunts… now it’s ‘early days’ and you’re preaching forbearance. Stay humble, EHC.

As for the strong arms in the minors, the Bees have lost their first three contests to the A’s Vegas affiliate by a combined 31 runs to 6. Mederos’ start was so rough that they promptly DFA’ed him, showing more pessimism than even this FO I thought capable of. Still think there was some relief value in there with some coaching, but now it’s the waiver wire for Vic.

Although the sample size is small, the initial exuberance has unfortunately proven to be irrational.

After Soriano and Kikuchi, the pitching is not major league caliber. Yes, Detmers looked good for 3 1/2 innings – which is why he’s really a reliever.

The bats are thus far competitive.

The defense is terrible especially when O’HoppE and Moncada are on the field.

The team is performing as constructed.

Nice job watching strike 3 down the middle Moncada! Yeeeesh. You suck defensively but you are supposed to swing a good bat.

Soler has actually hit the ball a little so far. Moncada is hitting under .100.

Those 2 ABs and O’Hoppe not asking for a challenge pissed me off to no end. But eh. Turn the page.

Silent C had some nasty stuff but his fastball, at times, can be pretty flat. That 1-2 outer edge middle fb he threw to Vazquez is not a EV pitch to throw (perfect for a hitter with two strikes protecting) and he got punished for it. But, if he improves command and can locate that sweeper and two seamer with consistence – we might end up with something pretty good here but it will take some time.

Just a complete lack of game awareness to not challenge the pitch against Paredes in the 8th. O’Hoppe continues to be a black hole behind the dish.

We had actually bounced back and were doing well with Travis and right after Logan comes in we give up those runs…. Coincidence ??

Really disappointing last 2 games. Bullpen is worse than advertised, O’Hoppe and Moncada are negative value players.

Moncada has looked atrocious at third. He has two errors and could have 4 already but was saved by Schanuel (who will never win a gold glove either.)

He doesn’t even know the basic fundamentals of defense. There is no way he should be on ANY Major League roster. Perry just showed how clueless he was by giving this guy money to stay here.
