LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Hunter

The Angels signed Hunter Strickland to a minor league deal. Kaleb Ort passed through waivers and the Angels outrighted him to Triple-A. Mike Trout has been a bargain for the Angels. How many of the Angels minor league signings do you think will pan out?

The Red Sox and Brewers did a six player trade in which the Red Sox got a 2025 Rookie of the Year finalist and a competitive balance round B pick, plus a couple of other guys. The Brewers also signed Peter Strzelecki to a minor league deal. The Yankees acquired utility player Max Schuemann in a trade with the Athletics. The Rays hired right-hander Nick Martinez on a one year deal. The Yankees are designating outfielder Yanquiel Fernandez for assignment. The Marlins are signing Chris Paddack to a one year deal. Marcell Ozuna got a one year deal with the Pirates. There is a mutual option for 2027.

Diamondbacks left-hander Andrew Saalfrank just had shoulder surgery. So much for his 2026.

This might be pretty unpopular, but here I go

With the report about the Red Sox inquiring about Neto, a lot of Angels fans called Neto “untouchable” and there was no scenario that they would trade him.

I love Neto. I do not want to trade him.

But nobody is untouchable for the right price. Would it be wildly unpopular on the surface? Absolutely.

But if they offered Roman Anthony, Connelly Early, and Mikey Romero…… I’m not sure how anyone would pass that up (and yes, the Sox wouldn’t offer that)

But then who would I be stuck watching at shortstop this whole year?

Question from a “semi-older” dude about watching Angels on the streaming platforms….
I’ve always had cable and recorded games so I can watch quickly without commercials later at night.
On the platforms, I assume you can watch On Demand and not just live?
And they don’t ruin the game by showing “Watch tonight’s 6-5 loss to the Astros”?

I already pay $10 a month to watch cricket (Willow), which is always entertaining. I shouldn’t have to pay $100 a season to watch the Halos, which won’t be.

Suzuki said Joyce is the only player coming into camp with a medical restriction. Joyce is throwing btw, TBD for the season opener.

Neto is 10000% going to get into some sort of kerfuffle when we play Detroit (Skubal, Valdez, Verlander)

Just had news pop up on my Facebook feed- Angels will be on MLB.TV for $100/year.

I know everyone calls for a hard rebuild (and arguably for good reason) but Neto to Boston specifically would be slit my wrists worthy.

Thinking Sox were hoping to lowball us for Neto with that package they sent to Milwaukee for Durbin. Maybe offer one of crowded outfielders.

Would suck to see him in Boston and I don’t blame the Red Sox for trying, but Neto is likely the least available Angel.

I could easily ship out Adell, Soriano, Detmers, and Schanuel for prospects, though.

Camps opening as we speak around the league. Who feels reloaded!?! I know I do. Gotta have someone to watch on my subscription that was added to my supplemental subscription to the big subscription I already had.

You know what’s cool about trading everything that isn’t nailed down? I don’t have to pay extra to watch it happen.

I’ve read all of the articles by this new writer at SI that this site has been linking to lately. Jeff Joiner I think???. Dude writes some good stuff.

The only way this offseason looks good to me is if they are reducing payroll and long-term commitments in preparation for sale.

A sale would be our version of a World Series win, somebody phone the Rally Monkey.

So the Monfort Brothers, John Fischer, or Bob Nutting would be a win, huh? What guarantee is there the unicorn new owner will spend like you want them to.

These owners have all made the postseason more recently than Arte, not the own you think it is lmao.

So you’re pro Arte and want him to continue his ownership after watching his team and franchise suck balls for the past decade? Interesting.

Only caveat:

why stretch the Rendon contract then instead of just taking the one year lump?

Beginning this season, fans can stream Angels.TV in the MLB App!

Streaming packages will be available at the discounted rate of $99.99 per year. Subscriptions for the 2026 season will be available in February.

Are the games not going to be on cable at all? Are we going to have to pay $100 on top of the cable bill, or will fans still be able to access them via a login—kind of like ESPN+?

Just like with the Padres, you can cut cable entirely and stream all local broadcasts for $99 through the MLB.TV app.

I’m probably going to do just this.

Not spending a dime that might encourage Arte in some manner. Not a dime on tickets. Not a dime on streaming. Don’t care if I see a single game tbh

Yup. It’s actually a little lucky that the Angels suck ass. Not sure how this TV deal will work but I’m not gonna pay an extra $100 on top of the cable I already have but don’t want but my family seems to need to watch a shit team suck.

I’ll probably just get MLB.TV and watch some Angels road games mixed in with my Tigers/Rays/Reds/A’s/D-Backs/Royals/Pirates and who ever else games. I listen to Angels games on the “radio” while I work or work out too.

The Angels can figure out how to play baseball. The MLB can figure out their TV situation. I won’t miss much while I wait it out. This would hurt a lot more if the team was in the play off hunt.

Cutting the cable won’t work for those of us that need it to watch Kings hockey.

It shouldn’t be this difficult to watch a terrible team. Heck, Arte should pay us.

I’m curious what the monthly price will be. If it’s $20 I’ll probably just go month to month and cancel in August as the team becomes less watchable

But if I have a MLB.tv account do I then get no blackouts to Angels games? Only the Dodgers now?
I have T-Mobile and I get the subscription for free.

Nope the regular mlb.tv will still be blacked out. You’d need the Angels subscription separately if you live in Southern California

You could always get a VPN if you use a fire stick and log in elsewhere to get the angels game, so as not to be blacked out. I’m not even doing that this year.

As someone who subscribed to Ballys last year, I won’t be doing so this year. Bally’s charged everyone’s accounts twice and unless you caught it and cancelled (they made a mistake, they said) you were stuck with it. Anyway, $99.99 is in NO way a deal, it’s the exact same price they charged last year. Cooter is sales and Midge in marketing are going to have to work extra hard to squeeze even a buck outta this guy this year. A reasonable price would be $49.99.

Announcement says Wayne, Goober, and Erica. If it means Paddy McHomer-free Fridays, it will be worth every penny.

I get that, mathematically, Mike Trout’s contract isn’t underwater yet. But It’s like an airline making you spend 36 hours of flight delays at two airports to finally get you to LA the day after your hotel reservation was cancelled and then saying “well, you got there right?”. It still sucks. It’s not what we thought we were buying. Accept, in Trout’s case, we get to keep doing the same flight over and over again. He got a huge contract, since he got paid he has been hurt or striking out a ton. If the only upside we have to being stuck with this for years is telling ourselves that other teams pay even more for some guys… well, it kind of sucks still.

The Pirates are gonna be interesting. A lot of young pitching with Bubba Chandler coming up and Jones coming back. Picking up O’Hearn and Ozuna is a gamble. Ozuna will likely be “Josh Bellish”. They need Bryan Reynolds to get his shit together. Lowe’s gonna be an upgrade at 2B. I think that Cruz/Horwitz will be the hinge here. If they hit then the offense will be fairly strong, stronger than anyone but the Cubs in division and then they may be able to see the play offs if they squint.

They do have a strong case of Angels disease though. Other than Connor Griffin they have no position players in the MiLB and are hoping on Termarr Johnson getting better the way we hope Moore works out. They NEED to figure out how to develop some dudes that don’t pitch.

Nick Madrigal is, indeed, the guy most likely to make the team. I’m rooting for all three of Peraza, Grissom and Nick to sort of form a trio of usefulness for us. Maybe Peraza keeps playing some 1B too. Maybe he and Grissom take a few LF reps as well. I think Siri is Rada insurance.

Some flavor to the Red Sox/Brewers trade. So my son got to do some infield workouts with multiple professionals this winter – some minor leaguers and some MLB players and a few high school prospects. It was two days. I knew who all the guys were on day one. On day two this short guy showed up – and he was so impressive. Great hands, great mover and a real motor. Was by far the most intense in the workouts. To me he was the best guy on the field, but just based on his height I assumed it was another minor league guy. A few days letter I asked the guy running it who he was, I told him I thought he was great. He tells me that was Caleb Durbin – Brewers third baseman. Of course it was… LOL

It was interesting – in an environment like that – you can see who the guys were drafted for their raw tools, (Speed/arm/etc.) and which guys were more the baseball players. One guy, young MLB player, had all the tools (6-2, strong, fast, etc)- but based on how he moved and his actions, I doubt he sticks in the infield. Truthfully – I couldn’t believe he was in the majors.

Guys who even sniff at any MLB time are amazing. Guys who get 5-10 years in are really from another planet. I mostly played with/against guys on their way up or down.As you said, unbelievable motors, possitivity and developed skill sets. On the other extreme was mostly failed MiLB guys who often seemed to focus on how they got screwed by the system or politics.

Where you got drafted does matter as teams do give bonus babies longer looks but some guys just didn’t care and pushed through whatever they needed to.

So true. In this workout, the MLB guys were all different. Intensity. Focus. Skills too. Some of the minor league guys worked hard, and some had first round bodies, but there was a big drop off from a defensive skills perspective. Other than the guy I think is moving to outfield. Now he is athletic for sure, but not a professional quality infielder. Guarantee you he has a hit tool.

Yippee!!!! 29 other teams didn’t want the Ort so he’s ours. He can get rocked in SLC for a few weeks to learn the thousand mile stare of Halo pitchers before getting called up. Thank goodness “The Minion” is still employed as a GM.

Can’t wait to battle the Rockies this season to see who is the worsiest in all MLB.

PCL is mostly brutal conditions for pitchers with Vegas, Reno, Sacramento, Alburquerque, El Paso and SLC all being launch pads. I’m curious on how much better the careers of guys going through Tacoma are.

How dare you sneer at the dark mysteries held within the Ort Cloud! Science itself is baffled by how a guy can have his stuff and strike so few hitters out. I’d watch yourself.

As a hitter altitude and dry heat were my friends. I was playing baseball in Bakersfield and golfing for fun when it wasn’t too hot. I thought I was driving the ball 300 yards until I got to Portland and found out it was really 260-270ish
