Jack Kochanowicz pitched today and Mike Trout was back in the game as the designated hitter. Kochanowicz struck out Mike Tauchman but then gave up a single, a walk, and another single to make it 1-0 White Sox in the first inning. Colson Montgomery then hit a three run homer to make it 4-0 White Sox. The next two white Sox players were out, thankfully. The Angels were then retired in order.
In the second inning,The Angels turned a double play and got Mike Tauchman to ground out. Luis Rengifo got a hit and made it to second on a crappy pickoff throw. That was as far as he got.
In the third inning, Lenin Sosa walked. Luis Robert Jr got a one out single. Colson Montgomery also singled to make it 5-0 White Sox. The Angels then turned a double play to get out of the inning. Christian Moore walked. Bryce Teodosio struck out and Zach Neto popped out. Nolan Schanuel singled to put men at first and third with two outs for Mike Trout. The second strikeTroutTM of the day ended the inning.
In the fourth inning, Josh Rojas got a two out single but Mike Tauchman hit into a 6-3 groundout to bring the Angels back up. The Angels went down 1-2-3. So did the White Sox in the top of the fifth inning. The Angels were retired in order in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Edgar Quero got a one out single but then was erased on a force out. Brooks Baldwin doubled to put men at second and third. Fortunately, grounded out to end the top of the sixth with no further scoring. Zach Neto led off the Angels’ sixth with a home run.
At least the Angels won’t get shutout today. Nolan Schanuel walked and Mike Trout doubled. Taylor Ward singled to left to make it 5-2 White Sox.
Mike Vasil came in to pitch and brought in another run with a wild pitch. 5-3 White Sox.
Travis d’Arnaud grounded out to end the inning.
Adam Chafin came in to pitch. We walked Mike Tauchman but got Lenyn Sosa to hit into a double play. Andrew Benintendi struck out. Christian Moore led off the bottom of the seventh on a ground ball through to center. Yoan Moncada also singled through to center. Gustavo Campero went in to pinch run for Moncada. Zach Neto tied up the game with a line double to center field.
Nolan Schanuel grounded out and Mike Trout was intentionally walked. Taylor Ward struck out on a foul tip. Jo Adell also struck out.
Reid Detmers came in to pitch the eighth inning. He retired the White Sox in order. Luis Rengifo punched a hit through to center. Travis d’Arnaud hit a fly out to right. Christian Moore lined out to right. Gustavo Campero flied out to center.
Kenley Jansen came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning. He gave up a one out single to Brooks Baldwin. Josh Rojas grounded out to send Baldwin to second. Mike Tauchman walked. Lenyn Sosa popped out to Zach Neto in short left.
Neto flied out to right. Nolan Schanuel got a hustle double to right and Mike Trout got his second intentional walk of the game. Taylor Ward walked it off with a three run homer. 8-5 Angels.

All I have to do is ignore Friday and Saturday, and the first inning today, and clearly we are hot tits contenders all the way.
OK. Ward was not exactly the goat yesterday, but close. Today, he’s the Greatest Of All Time. I have a theory that he’s identical twins, one good and one evil.
TGA with an excellent debut for the 66ers tonight, showing good continuity with his end of season ACL performance. They held him to three innings, as they did with Jordan and Soto last night, with 5 Ks and only a single, walk and WP across that stretch.
Meanwhile, Slate Alford had a nice breakout game in his second attempt, delivering the sort of offense you’d hope to see from a 22 yo SEC slugger vs low A ball pitching. 4 for 5 with two doubles and some loud contact.
Fun to see him and Kerrington Cross match up – both looking pretty dynamic and both targets on my draft boards in this year’s draft series.
I watched the TGA innings, he was definitely throwing some gas, definitely more wild than the boxscore would show as the ump had a pretty big zone that turned some likely walks into K’s.
Yep, that’s how he’s been in Arizona as well, and why, despite the velocity and improving slider, scouts still think he’ll ultimately be a late reliever when the strike zone tightens against more advanced hitters.
But that’s not a given, and of course you give him every chance to start at this age, and for the next 2-3 years.
Ward with 6 RBIs in his last 8 games, a 120 rbi pace, which matches his season long 119 rbi pace. In case anyone thinks an AI prediction of 98 makes sense. He currently is at 82 with 50 games left
Epic comeback. Great moment for Ward.
If you can’t feel some heart warmth for Taylor Ward hitting a walkoff jack to win it, then you’re probably a cynical stiff.
That was sweet.
Plus. Massive celebration. Huge bucket of water dumped on him.Runs his fingers through his hair…. perfect hair again. Nothing can touch his 70 grade hair.
That is why we drafted him in the first round.
That’s two games in a row I’ve attended with a walk off!!
Fangraphs Playoff Odds: 1.2% –> 1.6%
Meanwhile, Mariners are up to 81% and may overtake Houston soon, and Boston, in the teens less than a month ago, have improved to 75.5%. Look out Yanks.
Ripping off a 10-game win streak is about what it will take. It’s how the Red Sox became worthy again. Yankees still look bad after their deadline moves and I’m not sold on the Jays.
Detroit has their division locked down. I hate to say it but with Seattle’s arms and the two bats they acquired, they can make some noise but I still expect Houston to take the division. I really expect Correa to turn it on and their line-up is better than Jerry’s kids. Rangers are still in the mix but look like the 3rd place team in the AL West.
Yep, The Angels are a 72 to 76 win team. They will finish shy of .500
I don’t know what the sitch is with Yordon Alvarez, but if he comes on and is healthy…. yuck.
Angels are running against the wind, with all due respect to Bob Seger. Nice win today but only enough hitting and pitching to be mediocre. Neto is fun to watch though..
Just keep swimming.
That’s the kind of wrap up I like!
Team of Destiny, Keep the Group Together, Meaningful Baseball…some of Perry’s tidbits tomorrow
I gave up paying attention to the game after the top of the sixth. Man did I miss a great comeback. So, since the opposing team walked Trout intentionally twice, maybe he’s not as washed up as some here are saying.
Ya, in the 9th when they IBBd him, my thought was I would rather face Trout than Ward
Perhaps the actual professionals know more than we do? One thing is clear, our offense was Fuck All sans Trout.
Unpossible.
Perry: Sign him. Sign him NOW!

Ha, ha. “Random fan” my ass…. That guy is a real player.
This was a set-up, ala Savannah Bananas…
He also got a cookie to hit.
Maybe they used one of the rabbit balls from the home run derby
Or a balls used in Yankee games when Judge was chasing Maris
The boys finally sent me home happy on Sunday lol
