Postgame Loss 3-2

Game 2 here we go! Everything was going fine for two outs and then Hendricks coughed up a homer to Matt Chapman. 2-0 Giants. (Willy Adames had earlier walked.) Rengifo got a base hit but everybody else struck out in the Angels first. The fourth pitch to Jorge Soler was well below the zone but was called a strike. It’s going to be one of those days.

Nolan Schanuel got a hit in the second inning but Zach Neto contributed a double play. Still 2-0 Giants after the second inning.

Mike Yastrzemsky got a hustle double to Soler in right. Willy Adames got a hit that scored Yastrzemsky but Adames ended up in a rundown and was tagged out. 3-0 Giants. The Angels just struck out, except for Ward who lined out.

Mike Trout hit his seventh homer to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. He passed Harold Baines on the all time list with this homer.

Reid Detmers came in to pitch the top of the sixth inning. I guess this is routine. He only threw 63 pitches.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ward struck out again. Just swing. This umpire is a bozo. Mike Trout homered again. 3-2 Giants.

We made it to the bottom of the eighth inning without further scoring. Basically, Tyler Rogers was mowing them down. Luis Rengifo bounced out to the pitcher with Mike Trout on deck. I doubt if that was part of the game plan.

Mike Trout almost homered for the third time but it was caught by Heliot Ramos. Jorge Soler got a base hit and 2was replaced by pinch runner Tim Anderson. Wow! Logan O’Hoppe was barely out, Matt Chapman made an amazing play. Two outs and Soler at second. Unfortunately, Schanuel flied out. The Angels lost 3-2.

Farhan v Perry
Perry never finished with a better won loss record than Farhan. Both had similar payrolls too

But don’t we want Paris in the lineup every day since he’s the only hitter we have? I’m so confused.

Problem was that we unleashed the ANGLES on the Giants last night.

This board may be right on in its evaluation of Paris, but he could hit .240 and I would be a fan of his and besides do you really want to pull Rengifo off third? I don’t want to and besides there is not nothing like learning to play MLB at the ML level.

I agree with gpa. He is playing well defensively and someone just needs to tell him hit for contact and the homeruns will come. For some reason he thinks he has to hit homeruns Ohoppe is the same way but no one is calling for them to put him in the minors

Which board assessment was right? “1.500 OPS version that should be leading off and playing every day” or the “send that bum to shittsville, alabama yesterday already” assessment?

The first version while he had confidence. Taylor Ward is not a lead off hitter. Just like Anthony rendon is not a leadoff hitter

In response to a question about the high price of going to Dodger games (A family of four is estimated to cost 399.00 dollars), Manfraud pointed out that the fans of Los Angeles can always find cheap tickets for an outing at the Big A. So, to sum it up, he doesn’t care what it cost to go to games and why should care as it is his job to make sure that the teams and therefore the league make money, but Arte says thank you Commish for the plug. Yup, it cost a lot less to attend Angels games and that is why a whole lot of people attend game there. Personally, I don’t want to spend that much $ to watch a live MLB game in a place I don’t care for.

Paris is swinging for the fences with his eyes closed. He is trying to hit the ball to Long Beach. I expect him to be sent down in the near future.

Bong Leach would be a foul ball. A VERY foul ball.

I agree. His eyes are literally closed. No idea what happened over the last week.

Needs to get back with his real coach for a few sessions maybe.

I suspect it’s what happens to many young athletes who taste their first taste of success. They want more and more. And when top pitchers begin to humble them, they begin to crave big hits and swing out of their shoes.

Maybe it took a couple of weeks for teams to watch video and figure Paris out. I would like to see Moncada back and Rengifo at 2nd.

Not me. I could do without moncada. Maybe a bench role would be good enough for him. Between moncada Newman and Anderson I would rate Anderson 1A Newman and moncada 1C

We need for Paris to be legitimate and for 1 or 2 more guys to show up, otherwise we going to be in bad shape for the future.

I agree. And it is for this reason that I think Paris needs more time in the minors. Rushing him results in exactly what we are seeing- too much pressure to succeed and swinging for the fences. It’s not good for his development.

He looked rushed last year in his shot of coffee. He’s looked good, let’s pump the brakes and let the next re-adjustment set in … if it doesn’t improve, then consider sending him down. The pitchforks and torches AGAINST the kid came out really quick after the same pitchforks and torches were FOR the kid.

He was extremely unlikely to maintain a .300 ave when he was still displaying a high swing and miss rate but he honestly looks good in the field and can swipe some bags. I’d rather watch Paris at the plate than Rengifo. All I am saying, likely to regress to low .200 averages, Adell-like. If we get above .250, a win.

For the record I’ve got no pitchforks or torches. If you read that into my comments then you are misreading them. I’m recognizing the signs of a young player brought up too early. Maybe a day or two out will hopefully help him.

My comment was meant to be more positive re the player but realistic about the difficult position he has been put in.

Trout past Baines on the all-time HR list.

Baines was solid for about 20 straight years.

Look at his numbers in his 18th season (1999) – 24 homers, .322 / .395.

A lifetime .284 hitter.

On nights like tonight, Trout still flashes that “Plus Athlete” stuff.

Man, one of my biggest wishes for this campaign was to see at least one more great season from Trout. I hope this the impetus for that to happen.

Let’s face it, he’s comfortable hitting in Anaheim. Always has been.

The kids played; the pitching was good, and Trout took a step to break the slump.

We’ve certainly seen worse performances.

If this is who they are, stretches of 7-3, 6-4, 2-8, 5-5, etc., and end up with 78+ wins, that’d be cool.

Nice outing by Detmers tonight.

Between him and Dana I don’t think Hendricks is in the rotation much longer.

I think he threw 38 pitches. I presume that’s roughly the limit based on his level of “stretch out” as a reliever.

Question: If he becomes an above average reliever, do we stand pat or try him again as a starter?

From the stats, Koch is in the lead for rotation removal but it’s way early. These guys should get 6-7 starts before demotion. Hendricks is sporting a 1.20 WHIP, kinda better than expected.

Trout’s swings were really solid, compact and powerful tonight. I think he is starting to find his swing. The first HR was right in his HOT zone.

Yes sir. Not just his hot zone, but Trout slugged out a curve and change. Once he starts dominating offspeed pitches like he has historically, we’ve got motion

Both losses were rufffff.

Giving up a late go-ahead 3 to Russell Westbrook and proceding to lose in OT was awfully depressing.

Not as depressing as getting the doors blown off at home by a Minnesota team shooting magnet balls all night lol.
