If you are Suzuki and it’s the 9th inning and it’s a 5 run lead why don’t you just challenge just to appease your coach. He was adamant and even correct that Konnor was off the bag. Like use your challenges especially if one of your coaches with a direct line of sight to the play is telling you to.

I don’t want my buddy that swings “Wonderboy” yelling at me, but first – only talking about one year contracts with maybe a team or mutual options – for next season. Second I hate to use names because there are many, but just looking at an example. Let’s say the FO wants Cozart to stay at least one more year in the minors. Then you can sign Gary Sanchez (example only) OPS+ 114. (Terrible fielding catcher) He is making $1.5 million this year. The question is “is he better than what we have available?” “Can he be the RH DH?”

There are “average” players available as FAs. But when you have “far below average” players, several can be upgraded. (Just my opinion.)

I don’t disagree with you. I just believe that even though a number of moves like that might make us better, it won’t be nearly enough to get to the post season. Just my opinion. But if they’re all 1 year contracts then who cares. And I’m not yelling, I enjoy knowing what everyone thinks. Especially where do we go from here.

Although he swings a weak bat, Austin Hedges is a solid defensive catcher, team leader, can command a pitching staff. Someone who might take a discount to come back home. Just cannot expect too much offense.

there are catchers available this FA I believe that are way better than an old Gary Sanchez. Jeffers and Stephenson are both available in FA I believe.

This is the best the Angels starting pitching has ever looked from the time I’ve had a working memory. I’m 48. Even when they had Langston, Abbott and Finley their 4/5 starters usually were not so great. This offense though is offensive. But if the Angels get enough good defensive/contact players I think they could compete a lot quicker than people might think especially if they supplement their new owner wants to make some big purchases in the FA market.

That would be great except the market is very bare, and you would also need a bullpen. I would not want to count on Bachman and Joyce staying healthy.

Morejon is a fa and with the Padres payroll I doubt they sign him. Plus bullpens are the easiest to fix at the trade deadline.

Serious question. Just out of curiosity, what would those moves be. We need a major bullpen overhaul and we have 4 players who are hitting better than replacement (Trout, Neto, Schanuel, and Meckler. Only Trout is currently better than a 120 OPS+, and Neto and Schanuel are around 110. Even if you kept those 4 guys, you would need to replace the other 5. Assuming Trout DHs, you would need a catcher, a 2B, a 3B, And 2 OFs. A couple of them would need to be better hitters than anyone currently but Trout. We’re 19.5 games out of 1st place in the AL West with the great starting pitching, and 18 games out of the last wild card spot with the current weak AL West. The Gap is a lot bigger than we think. And, this assumes that none of the other teams get better so that the gap is actually bigger next year and that we avoid injuries as we have no depth.

I would like to be better sooner than later as well but I think we need to be realistic.

I think you are underestimating that the Angels have been so bad at so many positions that they can acquire guys that wouldn’t exactly move the needle but will still be massive upgrades to people that have played this year. Josh Lowe has 1 xbh vs lefties all year. O’Hoppe did nothing at catcher only to get replaced by someone who does even less. Soler was a horrible DH. Adell was a platoon guy playing everyday. The Angels after tonight will by like 75 ish runs in the negative for run differential. Their pythag should be much better than their actual record. Say the Angels signed Bauers, Morejon and one of Stephenson or Jeffers. Say they trade for another OF on a team that doesn’t want to pay their high arb figure and trades them like how we got Raisel. This is w/o the new owner even doing anything crazy like going after Skubal.

I would pass on those listed mainly because it probably will take multi-year contracts and high $$$. For next year, I would be opposed. Only “stop gap” unless the new owner wants to $300 million for no good reason.
