The Phillies are seeking outfield help and are reportedly keeping tabs on Jo Adell.
The Royals acquired Connor Seabold from the Blue Jays for minor league right-hander Denis Samudio plus cash. The Cubs acquired right-hander Yosver Zulueta from the Mariners for a minor leaguer plus cash. The Mets claimed infielder Zack Short off waivers from the Tigers.
Padres right-hander Ron Marinaccio got a three day suspension for intentionally hitting Gunnar Henderson.
Mets right-hander Christian Scott is going on the IL with a hip issue. The Astros are set to activate Hunter Brown today. Corey Seager is on the seven day concussion IL.
Nate Snead had his best outing today since being called up to the AA Trash Pandas.
His first three starts, it was obvious that his approach of just filling up the strike zone and pitching to contact wasn’t going to play as easily with advanced AA hitters. When his sinker is well-located, he can get regular groundball outs, but mature hitters punish every hung breaker and lace line drives all over the field. It’s still plus command, but sequencing and placement become so much more critical with patient bats.
Today, Snead gave up a solo home run on his very first AB of the game, then proceeded to keep the Montgomery Biscuits hitless for six innings. A single walk in the fifth inning was the only baserunner they’d see. He threw only 69 pitches (43 strikes), showing some of the efficiency we saw in High-A, and which quickly earned him a promotion to Rocket City.
Today’s lineup. Glad to see that Guzman is starting almost every day. Sink or swim. I think he looks pretty good thus far.
Shoutout to Walton raking at DH. I questioned the wisdom of giving him valuable at bats, however, he’s performing.

Anyone heading up to see the As-Angels series in West Sac this weekend? Mrs Teeth and I are going to be there for the Sat and Sun games.
I looked up the cost of a weekend trip to Sacramento and I decided to pass. I can go to see games at locales that I would much rather go.

I fly out of Burbank, where you can get roundtrip flights for a touch over $200 with three weeks notice. Given it’s curbside service, it’s pretty painless, and not too expensive relatively for a weekend away.
I actually like Sacramento now and then. I know Jeff J is a fan.
i get that it’s a minor league park, but it’s a genuinely nice place to watch a baseball game. The fan experience is pretty good.
It’s kind of a perfect fit for us. My wife, who is losing mobility with her condition, needs shorter trips, and she follows the A’s and loves Jacob Wilson. Saturday is J Willy bobblehead night, and Sunday father’s day.
I prefer minor league parks, and follow prospects more than MLB teams in general (and especially these historically dark days for Anaheim).
I also follow both farm systems closely, and both the A’s and Angels have been calling up prospects in high volume. I look at the A’s as 2+ years ahead of what the Angels could/should do in terms of drafting and development – so it’s a good look at what a team can do with a youth movement and limited capital, but wiser capital investments.
I live about 15 minutes from John Wayne, so Burbank is too frustrating for me to fly from at this point of my life. I have nothing against Sacramento, but want to see the Halos in another state where I haven’t seen them already.

Depends on the prospects. Last farm rankings had Dodgers in the middle of the pack, 14th IIRC, due to using prospects in trades and moving up.
Besides, even with injuries, I don’t think they are hurting in starting pitching. If they buy, I don’t think it will be starting pitching.
In light of the most recent Pomeranz failure, take a look at how bad Minasian is at his job. It’s hard to believe he has any function other than fetch Arturo’s coffee and chow down at the buffet table.

That’s not spending money wisely.
The crazy thing about this, is the fact that because the Angels were the ones that signed them their options were already pretty low. I feel like a quarter to a half of these guys would have accepted a NRI with a major league minimum IF they made the team. Perry has no business making any decisions for a baseball team.
That doesn’t cover the travel money (very small) to help lose games on the road. What a brutal list. Add in the crappy trade for Lowe.

That’s a cellar dweller list if I ever saw one.
So 13 players for 1-3 years of service each, with a total contract value of $113.35 million? If you factor-in the multi-year part, that’s probably something like a yearly average of $7-8 million per player (maybe less). I mean, not an impressive group of performers at all, but at that price you’re basically getting a replacement player no? And that’s what they delivered.
But “replacement level” isn’t average – it basically means AAAA player – the fringes of your 40 man, well below a 2-3 win regular player..
At the cost of ~114M, the Angels should be getting 15-16 wins above replacement. Pretty heavy water-carrying to say – hey, they got one win from 13 players, let me find some new math to make that “not bad”!
When you’re looking at an almost complete list of three years of FA acquisitions, and you’re at essentially replacement level value in sum, there’s no way to make that look good. This is a bad result, and money poorly spent.
And let’s be honest, if it were a good result, the W-L would reflect it.
Even a top-to-bottom replacement level team would win 48 wins, per the projections. The Rockies last season were basically a replacement level team. The Angels 2024 team found 15 wins among the rostered regulars to avoid that ignominious distinction.
I agree with all of this. Another way to say it is that replacement level players should in theory cost the league minimum for those roster spots.

I’m not sure how you’re counting it (money to date, or guaranteed money), but Kikuchi alone is a significant chunk of that money (I think $63 million of it). He’s also been worth positive WAR 2.8 WAR. Without him, it’s something like $50 million for -1.7 WAR. Perry has been really bad at filling out a roster.
Adell has been heating up, but I don’t trust the phillies or perry to make a good trade that benefits the angels.
Unironically 2 of Perry’s best trades were with Philly lol.

I think Adell is a bit undervalued at the moment (in the sim), but why not make it a package?
Suzuki is the better player but is also a lot more expensive and will cost more in trade.

He’s hitting for average, getting on base and has sprinkled in a half dozen home runs, as well. Seven of his 27 extra-base hits came this week, including two of his four triples. He also added six stolen bases in as many tries. (JN)
If you’re keeping track, that’s four different leadoff demons growing up in the Angels system at the moment. The system has little power up and down the affiliates, but they do have some speed and OBP at their three youngest affiliates and AAA.

ACL Angels: TJ Ford (.353/.483/.456, 12 bags, 146 wRC+)

Yes, these players all occupy highly charged offensive environments, but each are performing between 31% and 85% better than the league competition at each level. All worth keeping an eye on in an uneven, but improving, system.

I’ve got to assume that Moore will be up soon. His numbers since the beginning of May are crazy (even more crazy since the beginning of June). Still a few too many strikeouts, but better than last year.
I think if you call him up, you have to play him every day, and his ultimate defensive home remains a big question mark.
With guys like Meckler, Siri, Madrigal and Peraza hitting well, not sure there are daily plate appearances for him, unless you’re willing to DH him or Trout more.
Fwiw, his contact rate, in-zone contact and CSW% are all the best of his career, but yes, still a notch below MLB averages, so you’d like to see yet more progress there. But it’s major strides from last season.
The Angels have had a good three year run in the Dominican Summer League, making the quarterfinals each year, and winning their division in 2024 and 2025. In 2024 they made it all the way to the finals, falling two games to one to the DSL Red Sox. There are 51 teams in the Dominican, so this is no small feat!
The 2026 season opened up two weeks ago, and the DSL Angels have taken up where they left off. The team lost their first game, but haven’t lost again since, rattling off ten straight victories for the longest streak in the league. And their 10-1 record is tied with KC’s club for the best mark in the 51 team league.
It’s been all offense on the island, but ironically, it hasn’t been driven by bonus baby Jeyson Horton, who has been slumping badly out of the gate. Instead it’s the top of the order on the DSL Angels. Their lefty leadoff threat Juan Cespedes is broadly known as arguably the fastest kid on the island, 70 grade wheels, and he’s already stolen FIFTEEN bags (in 45 plate appearances) to lead the league. Combine that with a .571 OBP and you can see why the club is top four in the league in runs and steals (#2 with 44).
Another follow is 3B Cesar Paredes, who at 18, in his second year, clearly wants off the island. He has roared to a big start this season, hitting .429/.564/.964, and currently leads all DSL hitters in OPS, with four HRs in his first nine appearances.
Can the Angels stretch their win streak to eleven today? Action starts at 8am Pacific.

That’d require a pretty significant investment from Moreno, in infrastructure, coaching and player investment. He hasn’t had any appetite to date for significant upgrades. Even the Angels’ primary Dominican facilities are pretty modest compared to other teams.
The Latin scouting has improved in the past decade, but you can attribute a little of the outperformance to the fact the Angels have talent concentrated on the one club whereas most teams, as you note, have two full teams in the league.
The guy pitching today in the DSL is a horse… 6-foot-5, 215-pound 17-year-old…. looking good so far with 1 ER over 7 innings including today. Here’s his MLB scouting report from January:
Alexander Garcia, RHP, Dominican Republic
Garcia is a 6-foot-5 power arm who has real velocity projection. He currently sits 90-92 with his fastball and has peaked at 93. With his size and loose arm, he projects to be a hard thrower at physical maturation, potential hitting the upper 90’s.
Always hard for me to assess pitching in the DSL – very little video, patchy scouting reports, raw arms and gloves in rough park environments.
I see the team pulled it off though and got their eleventh win in a row, with two more steals from Cespedes. As KC’s club lost today, the Angels kids now have sole possession of #1 (of 51) in the DSL.

I truthfully can’t stand all these theme uniforms. Imagine a Christian pride night – and forcing players to wear a cross even if it’s not their belief. It’s the exact same thing. How about just wear your uniform? Ground breaking, I know. They try so hard to turn the game into a statement instead of letting the game stand on its own. Arte should make the team wear Parking Valet uniforms if he really wants to fit in with the fans.
I do like 42 – I just think it is cool and was such a big moment in the history of the game. But a patch would work too. It is confusing on Jackie Robinson Day.

Nothing goes smoothly any more. Nobody can just go with the flow, and far too often people go out of their way to make sure they go against the flow.
Pretty much every verse from the actual gospels would have conveyed a message of love and inclusivity but the players chose to bypass all of those to send a message.

No. It also doesn’t mean a player that doesn’t like the movement and symbolism doesn’t still have love for the people. It’s a fallacious argument. The symbolism is definitely part of a movement in my eyes. As a Christian – I would not support a Christian pride night that forced players to wear crosses either. I can’t stand activism in sports.

I had the same thought when I read the article. While the results have been up and down with Adell, he has always been a solid guy that seems to work hard.
If he has great foot speed and he worked hard on being an OF wouldn’t he at least be average as a defender?
I think he has improved a ton in the outfield. That being said; his starting point was as poor as anyone I have ever seen. When he first got called up it was if he had never played outfield at all. i remember asking myself,how the hell did this guy make it through the minor leagues.
Adell is essentially an average RF defensively. The stats all show him to be about average in RF. He’s got a -1 DRS this year in RF (0 is by definition average). He was a really bad CF last year, but a pretty good RF the prior year. He just should t be in CF
Yes. Jo is a solid citizen and very easy to root for. Wish him well, but he should be traded.
