Is it too early to begin talking about an extension for Zach Neto? The Angels designated Tim Anderson and Chuckie Robinson for assignment to make room for the arrival of Robert Stephenson and Scott Kingery.
The White Sox released reliever Dan Altavilla while the Royals released Nelson Velazquez.
Right-hander J.P. Feyereisen has elected free agency and outfielder Jose Azocar has done the same.
Genesis Cabrera has gotten a major league deal with the Cubs.

Unlike some of my brothers here at CtPG, I am happy with the improvement by Schanny. Yes more power would be nice, a position change to maybe LF (If Ward is traded) would be nice, but he has improved his play at 1st base although he is no Walsh yet. OBP is a big part of the game. Was he worth a first rd draft choice, well you know the answer to that now don’t you. Hey, he may yet find the power and we know that will come before finding speed in them feet. 😄
Yeah. But he’s not Paul Skenes so I’m pissed. He’s making a lot of contact, he’s hitting the ball harder. He’ll likely hit more than 5 home runs this year. If he can get his OPS up by say 50 points I’d say he’s pretty darn good.
Yes, and refrigerator Perry should’ve been a CB
Next on the list is; making contract with a bat on a pitched ball. Somewhere along with “modern” changes to the game is strikeouts are Ok if you hit HRs. Stat freaks have come up with this crap. Hit 40 HRs and K 200 times and you end up with a good WAR season. If you look up the numbers of, say a Carew or Gwynn or Boggs and Mr. James does not really give them the credit they should get without HRs. I do believe that getting 3 hits in an inning is maybe not as great as it should be as Homeruns are what turn the crowd om, but scoring with hits and walks with speed thrown in will will a lot more than swinging for the fences, so maybe we need to reach old school hitting mechanics like more level hard swinging that drive the ball that result in a hit more than “launch angle” every swing, especially if swings are missed or caught at warning track. There is no hit if you can’t hit the ball. Caddy’s are for HR hitters, although today it maybe Mercedes, time to recognize that the game is really about getting runners on base to be brought home whether by HR or hits. Time to acquire those that can teach hitting the dam ball and it takes more than just one.
PS, If, there was a few more runners on base, Trouty would have had many more RBIs.
Lugo was demoted, what was the corresponding move?
It must be trout, but leave it to the angels to be ambiguous.
I just read that it IS Trout. I hope he makes it through the month and I do mean May
😆
Trout is activated and will play tomorrow. So we will have Chris Taylor part deux tomorrow.
I am genuinely frightened that Trout will have an anvil fall from the sky and hit him in the head while he eats cereal.
It is not all of a sudden that team and position defense is just now coming to light for anyone here that this team lacks now, is it. If Soler hits 35 HRs and can’t cover ground, can’t get good jumps, has poor routes, throws to wrong base, has a weak arm, he will cost more games than he helps win with those HRs. Historically the team has had good defense at C, SS, 2b, CF, with those positions making it so even our weak teams made pitching looking good keeping us in a lot of games. Maybe the bean counters or the analyses will show that you can win with weak or poor “D” and that the game has passed me by and that GPB is a grouch when always preaching that defense is so important. So, to expect the defense to have improved under Wash is now completely fair.
Rengifo has improved some, but you can’t fix .10 cent heads. If the team drafts weak fielders, it is impossible to turn those players into GGers. It is up to the powers to be to turn player acquisitions focus on bringing in those that are good fielders. Was Moore a good fielder, maybe, but the numbers are only average for him. Schanny, average for him. Ward is only average at best, ditto with everyone except our SS who is a freak at fielding along with BBIQ.
Defense is what determines a pitcher’s ERA & Whip. Today official scorers are why off the charts in calling for a hit when there was an error and sometime vice versa, that’s why WHIP is a good value stat. It’s Ok to call out a great play or to call out a bad play or decision. Defense does not seem to enter the equation in the last 4 or more years; it’s time to readjust the total picture here and it starts with the powers to be.
Defense and base hits are lame. I like to party. Home runs rule cause they make me look up from my phone. Base hits are the dad jokes of sports. Juice the balls. Juice the players. Bring out cheer leaders.
Was there a pre-season memo to umpires that said there was a “Suggested strike zone”?
We all know that white box is deceiving (It’s the same zone even when Altuve’s batting), but if the ball is never over the plate at all, it is not strike (Unless flailed at by Ward, Neeeeefo, Adell, Paris, Taylor or Soler).
Sadly, the umps suck, but we’d still K twelve times a game even if they were spot on. But if we just fire some guys, suddenly it will get way easier to major league baseball for these poops.
OMG, now Moncada’s knee hurts……..(Heaviest sigh)
Angel’s fan magic bruh. To much piss in one area = vitreous humors.
The juice is not kind to the musculoskeletal system
That is very true my friend.
Funny stuff, Sports Illustrated wrote about the bad umpiring we had last night, but only the last pitch to O’Hoppe. That guy was off the whole game. But in the ninth inning he wanted to get to the hotel before the kitchen closed.
#SETKINGERYFREE
Are we wasting Scott’s prime?
u know it brudda!~
I am trying to figure a couple things out.
First, how did Arte Moreno manage to get to Arlington and fk up Adolis Garcia, Marcus Semein, Evan Carter, Jake Burger, Joc Pederson and Cory Seager? amazing evil powers.
And how is Mike Scioscia managing to make the Royals not call up Jack Caglionionieee? Is it a hatred for utes or evil Arte wanting them to avoid starting his clock even though he’s not on the Angels? incredible cheapness…
His massive ego won’t let him get rid of Soth even though we’re talking about a completely different team and Soth was let go years back. I am still waiting for the several wins per year that his in game decisions were costing us to show up. Real men of baseball were sure we’d see the uptick…. donde esta?
The racoon rots from the head to the tail and stuff.
But seriously American League. The Rangers and Orioles? Even the Red Sux? Why is no one good?
But if we get rid of Johnny Washington, THATS the move that finally puts us over the top. One more firing. Make it happen!
Ahhhhh…. yes. Just behead one more wife as a traitor and an heir will be born and the kingdom will be saved!
Yes, you got it gitch!
You’re smelling what the Rock isn’t cooking.
Maybe sometime soon? Whip is unsightly. SL is calling, they want their Brogdon back.
Sam Bachman
8.0 innings – 0 ER – 7 hits – 7 walks – 6 K’s – whip 1.75
Bachman had a long lay off. I’m gonna need him to be wild and also very hittable for more than eight innings before I decide he’s truly wild and hittable.
At least Bachman uses his head.
Schanny’s stats thus far
3 hrs 14 RBIs.
Yes. The guy with a .750 OPS and a positive OPS+ is the teams problem. Very good Tootie. Good thoughting.
If he gets that OPS above .780 by the end of the year and only has ten HR I just don’t care.
I’m not at all thrilled with his power numbers but, OBP is part of that conversation:
Not everything in the moneyball movie was correct. BTW the movie never mentioned that they still had Miguel Tejada, Eric Chavez and their Big 3 starting pitchers.
As long we don’t get crazy stupid again like we did with #27. 31st birthday and let them leave.
Assuming Wash will get canned within the next few years, if not sooner (next guy will be at a C- candidate that wouldn’t get hired anywhere else) but that’s how we roll.
I don’t think they’ll do any better than Washington, but his biggest disappointment is the TEAM defense has shown no improvement, call it pathetic. He’s been here long enough, with that his supposed super power, we’d see a glimpse of something by now.
https://x.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1928118250484945416
We can’t do better at GM or manager because of Arturo. That doesn’t mean we don’t need better at both.
Yep. The defense sucking is an actual issue that could actually get worked on even though the team sucks. Sure, you’re not gonna add range to a guy, but you can get him to field the ball cleanly more often, etc. I don’t care all that much about nit picking every decision Wash makes with this Chevy Vega of a team, and I understand that Jorge Soler isn’t gonna be a good OF, but Wash & Co should be causing an uptick in defense over all, not a wet fart.
Not putting Soler in the OF would improve the team. You’re not going to uptick that guy.
Astros get away with Yordan Alvarez in the field. Dodgers and Red Sox did it with ManRam
ManRam developed the double cut-off.
ManRam hit .330, if Soler could do that, you would put up with the bad D. Same for Yordan.
Yeah. I understand, that’s gonna happen every now and again. But it does annoy me that Wash seems to worry about defense and plays guys accordingly…. but then they suck at defense. Soler starting 30 games in RF and sucking I don’t mind. Nature of the beast. Adell, Lugo and Ward (who generally isn’t as bad as we like to make him out to be) suddenly playing the field like they just got their first mitt is no bueno. O’Hoppe looks way worse too.
Anderson at second was actually a defensive success story…. but he’s gone. Neto has gotten better under Wash….. that’s about it.
Come on, it’s not just this season. Pre-dates Wash.
That’s my point, they haven’t got any better with him. Thought by now we could see a little something, I think the needle is still at zero…. I’m sure my expectations are way too high, too much to ask for. This coming from Zero expectations forever with everything. Thought maybe we could turn our F grade into a C-
Jase tingler and that’s it.
Cut out damn losses sooner and hire younger. Oh, no more bullpens and catchers!!!
I like how that photo of Trout looks like he’s saying “What the hell is this thing and what do I do with it? It’s been so long….”
Or, It’s fine, I’ll be fine…. After feeling something in my wrist.
Eh. He’ll likely play tomorrow. Right?
BTW2, no wonder that Stankee catcher as pulverized yesterday by foul tips last night, that knee down stance exposed his thighs. I wonder what metrics using non-player came up with that one.
BTW, the “Pitch framing” by MLB catchers nowadays is pathetic. You frame a pitch by how you catch it towards the strike zone. This snatching of pitches would’ve got a ball call every time back in my day, you know, when uniforms only came in grey, black and white…..LOL
What a dumpster fire.

It frosts me to no end when the want-to-be Manhattans invade our house. The very fact that after 22 years Cheap & Evil still doesn’t understand this issue is another reason he needs to finally unload this turd.
I think that any fan that runs on the field should be tazed. But, if happens to be wearing a glove, let him field an inning or two in LF and see what he can do.
And behold the dirt bags – mostly from LA – cheering this dipshit on.
I hope that dumbass spends a couple of weeks in OCJ.
Being a Browns fan, I look at it different. With that little burst, possible depth at running back.
I absolutely loathe, and they even have the seats right behind the plate. It sucks.
Looked like Jo Adell in pinstripes
LOL!!!
5-5 in our last 10 games!!
That’s the spirit!
Yes the umpires miss calls. It’s also true that bad calls happen to every team. It also is factual that the bad calls do not balance out evenly across all 30 teams. Let’s also accept that this is a poorly constructed team with minimal depth and talent, and regardless of bad calls was never destined to compete for the playoffs.
The “blame” for this season starts with ownership, baseball operations staff, and the players.
The issue I have with the fluid and unreasonable strike zone is that it is causing the more disciplined hitters to flail at pitches they know to be outside of the zone because they will be called a strike. Now pitches below the letters in the zone are not strikes, but pitches over the plate at you shins are strikes.
Then you have Halo players like Soler who struck out on a pitch that bounced in front of the plate because he is so swing happy. Neeeeeefo should’ve let ball four go by and have Neto bat with bases juiced.
Well churn the page…..
Last night wasn’t a strike zone, it was total crap.
The state of TV technology has reached the point that ball/strike umpiring is pathetic every game. My only hope is that the daily bad calls will prompt the gambling honchos to demand that Manfraud fixes it. As we all know, he will immediately respond to his real overlords!
The one you’ve been waiting to see. From Fletcher ump grade from last night
https://x.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1928113755562340617
The “Overall Favor” is + 1.27 runs for Yankees, which obviously is the difference in the game.
Hey so now you believe this scorecard but not the “random one” I posted a month ago?
🤣
You slay me brother.
This is the same source as the post I posted – don’t remember the game but you pretty much dismembered me on the spot for posting it.
Go team and stuff.
Rah rah!
🏆
Take a look at Marine’s comment. It may be an UNDERREPORT. The thing may still not be accurate but perhaps it is a direction you are not expecting.
At the end of the day I trust MY EYES. I don’t need a report to tell me what I already know from seeing it first hand. But some people like and value those things, so there you have it.
Your eyes? Is this Lyle Spencer’s burner? Aha!!!!
😂😘😂😘
….. he said loudly, he said proudly, completely unaware that his robe was open and everyone could see his weird balls jiggle in time with his adamant finger wags.
You have a pervy mind and you are weird as F_ !!
And you probably like looking at strong, shirtless men.
Yup. Yankees gained a big advantage. I think this is an under-report, but still shows another bad night by an umpire.
“Strike general area”
I blame Ohtani. It felt like we won the lottery when he picked the Angels.
Then his arm fell off and he couldn’t pitch the first 2 seasons, Arte bought Rendon to try to build a team around him, he somehow caused COVID, hogged the DH spot — resulting in Trout becoming overplayed in CF and get injured repeatedly, made MLB change the shift rules and two-way player rules, caused Arte to spend the next 4 years forcing GMs to try to push a mediocre-at-best team into the playoffs instead of trading assets and rebuilding the team — culminating in the Giolito disaster, and he even blocked the sale of the Angels to a Japanese investor group by refusing to sign an extension and instead chose to jump off the Titanic before it left port.
And the worst part is, none of that is Ohtani’s fault and some of it isn’t even true, so I have no rational justification for being bitter.
Trout doesn’t get hurt playing the OF, it’s mostly running the bases and DH doesn’t fix that, maybe hurts, because he gets colder sitting in the dugout.
This is what I’ve been saying too. I didn’t see the move to RF changing anything about his injury proneness, and so far I was right.
DH would be the same; wouldn’t change anything IMO. I can’t remember the last injury he had that was related to playing the field.
Running the bases OR swinging the bat (back injury, hamate)
Correct. That was one of the things that isn’t true.
My more honest speculation is that Trout’s natural build is the lean muscle guy he was in 2012 and his decision to bulk up into a pure power hitter has resulted in extra bodily stress that’s contributed to some of the leg/durability issues (but probably not the hand sliding injury or hamate fracture).
He gets hurt breathing.
Let’s break it out by team to see if it’s exactly even or some teams get screwed more than others. MLB needs accountability.
The honorable Senator has it wrong.
It’s a vast Conspiracy of Umpires to Only Screw the Angels. Don’t you read the expert opinions here?
Go to Dodger Dorks, Yankee Yankers, Cubs Cranks or any other fan-oriented site with even semi-knowledgeable posters and they all will say the Umpires calls go against their team waaaaayyyyy more than any other. And of course, the extreme butthurts need to imply certain teams get special treatment, to make themselves feel better about supporting a crappy team.
Has NOTHING to do with the players sucking. Or the Manager. Or the GM. Or Ownership. The Angels suck because the (insert winning team here) get special treatment!
I always sit with a bowl of popcorn waiting for your “International Conspiracy of Umpires to Only Screw Over the Angels” comment.
From the posts, it’s really the only conclusion.
A’s get special treatment
Dodgers get special treatment
Yankees REALLY get special treatment
Red Sox get special treatment
Rangers get special treatment
et. al.
And don’t forget, the replay team is in NY – and they HATE the Angels.
Abso-freakin-loot-lee
Walmart’s bag o’ popcorn is actually pretty good…
Non digestible that corn stuff – It was a figure of speech.
