LA Angels Monday News Crash: Zach Neto

Zach Neto is up for the All MLB Team. Give him your vote.

Tarik Skubal won the American League pitching triple crown.

Oh no! The Orioles designated Tucker Davidson for assignment. Justin Turner plans to continue playing next year at the age of 40. Ha-Seong Kim is having shoulder surgery.

Jerry Dipoto says he does not plan to deal anyone from the Mariners rotation this off season. The Tigers placed Shelby Miller on unconditional release waivers.

Jerry Reinsdorf is sorry for the way the White Sox played and wrote a letter to the fans about it. Skip Schumaker will not return as the manager of the Marlins. Both Derek Falvey and Rocco Baldelli will stay with the Twins.

Ozzie Virgil Sr. passed away at the age of 92.

It’s about time. I rather do a full DFA but at least it’s a start.

From the OC Register: “When Anthony has played, he hasn’t been productive,” Minasian said. “So he’s gonna have to come in and earn it. There’s no handouts.”

Rhett Bollinger wrote, “Rendon is likely headed to a bench role”

Let’s see if the BBWAA sheds their veil of indignity and puts him in. But, then why not Joe Jackson, Bonds, Clemens, et al.? Putting him in will just validate what everyone knows already, if they’re exceptionally good, athletes don’t need to follow the rules. Rules are for schmucks.

Yes, he is both the all-time leader in hits and completely dead. He also put himself above the rules for everyone else, got caught, then spent the rest of his life whining about it. Pete Rose the player was impossibly gifted. Pete Rose the person was a douche. And it wouldn’t surprise me to see him inducted into the HOF in the next few years.

Let’s go Padres and Brewers both this week and next.

I knew Zaidi was on the way out because Tootie stopped posting him randomly.

Buster Posey. Nothing wrong with the guy himself, but jeebs he just strikes me as a walking shit eating grin. And he does nothing to answer my age old question, what exactly does a POBO do? Is he going to “All Time Giants Great” his way through contract litigation and budget meetings? How many players has he developed? WTF has he done other than be Parker Posey? Oh. And “Git Thah Chapman Deal Signed Uhp!” Good on you champ!

Posey probably has grit… toughness.. and FUNDEMENTALS!!!! (for CoachDad) and will be the answer to the Giants dreams, leading them to many Championships in the years to come.

Don’t you read the posts here? All the Angels need to do is hire some of the WINNERS from the `02 team (who were awful both the year prior and the year after) and ANGELS WILL RULE BASEBALL FOR YEARS!!!!!!!!!!

I think POBO is front office speak for Talent CEO.

There’s simply too much going on in a fully staffed front office for one General Manager to oversee nowadays.

GM – big league roster construction, working within payroll, hiring coaches
Director of Scouting – obvious
International Director of Scouting – obvious
Minor League Director – obvious
Analytics crew

A POBO keeps an eye on all of those folks and allocates resources according to his and the organizations philosphy.

Where is our letter from Arte apologizing for this season? White Sox fans got one from Reinsdorf.

Last time we heard from him collectively in that type of statement, he mentioned unfinished business. At this point I’m thinking that might be the complete destruction of this Organization.

Zaidi (Giants) was canned today. He came to that gig with a stronger pedigree than The Platypus. I thought two-year extensions were normal after four losing seasons? I guess when the expectation is championship caliber baseball, the definition of accountability for losing is different…..

Losing 99 games is how you learn to win. One player on the entire team showed growth. Zach Neto, all the rest regressed, but it was a growth year. Based on the way they played I didn’t see anyone learn anything.

Jo Adell went from a negative WAR player to 0.9. Nolan Schanuel had 1.3 WAR. Wagaman had 0.4 WAR in a month. Soriano was good with a WHIP under 1.3. Silent C started out bad and got good with a WHIP under 1.2. Matt Joyce was good. Zeferjahn had a WHIP under1. Crouse and Contreras both under 1.3. Burke under 1.2.

None of that is wonderful. But all of it is improvement and progress. Adell is nearly a 4 WAR player if he gets his OBP up over .320. Schanuel is a 3 WAR guy if he gets his OPS to .750. Most of the pitching staff finished the year pitching better than they started accept Canning.

Our team fielding percentage was .983. The Yankees, Dodgers, Rays, Brewers, Guardians and Mets were all .985 or below. And that’s with our team fielding an absolute hodge podge most of the year. We can raise that without a miracle.

IMPROVEMENT. It’s what we want. Sure, they shit the bed in September and all our tight little assholes are sore about it, but they still showed progress this year. If they show more next year we’ll have the start of a roster going. We just won’t be championshipish for a while. But hey, do we really deserve it?

Roy Hobbs

We’ll have to agree to disagree. Jo Adell didn’t hit any better than any previous season. He just got up more. I’ll believe your predictions when I see them and admit I’m wrong when they occur. Everyone is a better player if they hit better.

Snakes need any team to sweep. Doesn’t matter.

A sweep, they’re in
A split, it’s over.

So doesn’t matter to me who wins the first game.
ATL being at home, I hope they win the first game for sure though.

MVP’s were written down in June and never changed as Shotime and Here comes the Judge are clear winner’s although Witt was in the conversation up thru September as any other year just about, he would have won.

While we Angels fans may be out of the playoffs, at least I’m pretty sure of that I am pretty sure the playoffs will be exciting this year. As an American League fan I am pulling for Royals or Baltimore and one or the other will advance. As a SoCal fan I’m pulling for the Dodgers or Padres. Can’t wait to get it started. 😀

Hi Mia. While this was a crappy season my descriptor would not be “soul crushing” (which implies some surprise). It would be “predictable”. I’m afraid it will be the same thing in ‘25 without wholesale changes- hopefully starting with ownership.

1974   68 94 .420    75  72 89 .447
