Fuck Arte Moreno. Had the two greatest talents to ever play the game on his team and he fucked it up.

That is not cheapness, that is not disinterest. That is pure, unadulterated ineptitude.

What an embarrassment.

It is surely a bitter pill for alot of people to swallow that the greatest player to ever step on a baseball field is not white, he’s not black and in fact is not even American.

He is Japanese. Baseball is the ultimate American game, perhaps the greatest symbol of America, and yet we can’t even claim the greatest player of all time. Not Ruth — sorry Eric.

Not even Mays.

It is one Shohei Ohtani. We had him in our midst and let him slip away.

There a those here who know this stuff but my guess is the Dodgers will probably make enough money off of Ohtani that they can invest some of it and then have enough to pay him when the time comes, so he ends up costing them almost nothing.

Absolutely agree. I’d go as far to say they will make money on his $700m contract.

That’s not what will happen. Remember, Mark Walter’s day job is making money appear.

From what I understand, an annuity is being funded annually at about the same rate as the cap hit (about 42 million). I promise that in spite of some rage boners just waiting for the deferral payments to bankrupt the Dodgers, it isn’t going to happen.

And if Ohtani is smart, he is not a California resident when he starts receiving payment and avoids the tax hit.

That’s basically what I was implying without knowing the details.

By the way – Ohtani has earned his $70m this season. He’s going to be fun to watch in his first playoff appearance.

I hope Ohtani does good as the dodgers get eliminated

I would like to see him be the World Series MVP. I am not now, nor have I ever been a Dodger fan, and I really wasn’t a Steve Garvey or Tommy Lasorda Fan either. But I’ve never understood the hatred for the organization. Especially now. I understand the dislike of the bad behaving fans but not the club itself. They are a great baseball organization. I did not like them growing up because many Dodger fans at the time were also USC fans and I was an Angels and UCLA fan.

It’s more annoying little brother rage boners.
Evil Walter O’Malley, even though the narrative has long been disproven.

Evil Walter forcing Beloved Cowboy Gene Autry to pay RENT while playing in
Dodger Stadium.

Obnoxious fans sure, but one finds those everywhere if looking for them. I’ve probably been to 500 games in LA over the last 50 years, and never encountered an issue. Interestingly enough, the only NorCal fan actually killed in a parking lot was an A’s fan sucker punched in the Angel Stadium lot.

GB and some others will tell you, it’s a relatively recent development, along with line of death in the sand dogmas regarding other issues in life. We used to make fun of the fans in Chicago, with the Northside/Southside thing, thinking how lucky we were to have TWO teams (then three) within an hour (or two) of each other.

Having said that, everyone can hate whomever they wish, for any apparent or imagined reason 🙂

Ohtani’s line tonight:

6 AB
6 Hits
4 Runs
10 RBIs
3 HRs
2 Doubles
2 SBs

Honestly, he’s at a level of performance that no one in the history of the game has produced. Think about the time he lost on the mound due to injuries and just imagine what he could have delivered.

Also, he’s only been caught 4 times. It is a remarkable achievement. One of the few players who signed a big FA contract and then went out and performed.

Going to FL for two weeks on Monday… thought, hey, are they playing TB at all in that small time of schedule left? They were done with them by the end of April. I hate the modern MLB schedules. Wish it would go back to just AL vs AL teams all year. Have more at stake between the divisions/WC slots.

ok, sorry about this but we’re seeing a season for the history books with Ohtani (yes, I named him). I wish he were doing all of this for us. I don’t hate him, though. Except for throwing Ippei under the bus and into prison he’s a pretty good guy.

But we have Mike Trout.

It’s one of the indications that we’ve stopped trying for 2024…..which is ultimately okay since everything should be focused on the 2025 season and actions required to add more young talent.

1/10 simulations this morning gave us the #1 pick… 6 others had us 4-8.

F it. It’s time to finally get some good luck and win something this offseason. I hope we get the no. 1 pick. if not at least in the top 3. All of which lead to a higher over all signing bonus pools for the 2025 draft.

If we want a good draft pick, I hope Arte has increased the amount and frequency of the honorarium payments to Manfred.

According to Tankathon we have an 18% chance of getting the top pick which means an 82% chance of not getting it.

Think of it as 18 ping pong balls out of 100. If Miami gets the first pick that would remove 22 so our odds for the second pick would be 18/78, whatever that comes to. 22or 23% I think.

But if one of those further down clubs get the #1 pick, let’s say a surprise team with a 2% chance, then our odds at #2 are hardly better than getting #1. It would still be about 18% with the rest of the field still at 80%+

That’s why I’m expecting us to land at 8

My math skills say 18% chance is better that 10% (4th-Nationals), I fully expect 1 team to sneak in there in the top 3 but I hope a Halo ping pong ball is selected within the first 3 selections. Pretty good talent over the past few years where any of the top 3-5 could make a case for No. 1. If the Halos get kicked out of the top 5 would be a drag. My hopes are up.

Agreed, that’s the only reasonable way of viewing him at this point. Totally outstripped expectations last six starts. Also: no longer eligible for rookie status in 2025… crossed the 50-inning rubicon.
