Aldegheri Won Postgame

We had dueling Cy Rookies today.

Taylor Ward got a lead off hit to break up the Rangers no-hitter before it got started. Brandon Drury and Niko Kavadas both got hits in the top of the third inning. Taylor Ward walked to load the bases. Zach Neto hit into a double play which scored Drury. 1-0 Angels.

That run resulted in a new pitcher for the Rangers named Walter Pennington. Nolan Schanuel then got a hit to score another run. 2-0 Angels.

Rendon made the third out. The Rangers got somebody on base but couldn’t score. Now we come to the fourth inning with Pennington still pitching. Moniak grounded out to third base and then Bruce Bochy brought in Jose Urena to pitch. He ended up doing over five innings. There was no further scoring until Logan O’Hoppe woke up with a three run homer in the sixth inning. 5-0 Angels. LOL @ World Series Champion Ranger dudes… Next.

The Rangers threatened in their half of the sixth. They did score one, in fact, when Adolis Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to score Wyatt Langford. 5-1 Angels. There was no further scoring. Sam Aldegherhi won 5-1 and got the game ball.

Gotta wonder if Adell is done for the season with the oblique.

Teodosio is penciled in to start in CF in nationally televised game.

we only have 3 weeks so probably that’s it. I think he made great progress in 2024. Get that average up and he’ll be a big help next year and beyond.

He made great progress defensively. As a hitter, his OPS+ is nearly identical to what it has been every year for the last 4 years, 89, 78, 87, 88. He has been very consistently a 12% below average hitter. Hopefully next year he flips the switch.

Highly unlikely he returns this year.

Angels transactions:

•Selected the contract of OF Bryce Teodosio

•Recalled OF Jordyn Adams from Triple-A Salt Lake

•Placed OF Kevin Pillar (left thumb sprain) & OF Jo Adell (left oblique strain) on 10-day injured list

•Transferred RHP José Soriano to 60-day injured list

At this point I would stop platooning Mick and let him hit against lefties. What is there left to lose? The only strategy Wash should be doing right now is developing the kids, whether or not they win or lose the game eventually. There is no better time to let Mick learn (if he can) against lefties than in the last month of the season with the team way out of the playoffs. This way, you can definitely know for sure whether you platoon him with Trout next year or he can be your most everyday CF.

Honest question: To what circle of hell did Aldegheri’s slider consign the Rangers last night?

My favorite new book:
Flowers for Aldegueri.

Who will play Cliff Robertson’s role in the movie?

At 6′ 11″ he needs to hit more batters. Think Randy Johnson vs. John Kruk.

That one matchup turned the AS game into a farce. Been in the toilet ever since.

Soooo

Early next year we’ll have Soriano, Silseth, Detmers, Dana, Aldigheri, Silent C, Bachman and maybe Kent, Erla, Klassen and some sort of Ryan Johnson type in the “does this young rotation have hope?” category to look at for starter spots. Yeah CtPG Guy. We know. “Bachman is a reliever” he just hasn’t been in an MiLB pen yet. He may end up there but he hasn’t yet.

Also, dark horse Kenny Rosenberg. I know, what? But they may give him a long look this spring. A guy I know that is an MiLB internet guy was told that, while it may not mean much, Rosenberg’s ability to mitigate playing in the PCL, if he can get it to transfer to the MLB, is attractive. Though his roster situation may mean he’s sexy on some other squad this spring….

And then there’s Fulmer….

Plus, the return of Sandoval, who can’t possibly be any good because CtPG Guy doesn’t like his face. But they’ll still likely see if he can pitch now or not.

That’s a lot of hopium innings that need to be pitched. It’s kinda fun. But we probably aren’t signing 3 free agent starters this winter. Probably gonna have a lot of months next year that are like this month. Hopefully with more runs scored….

Just imagine the smiles on Arte and the 2 stooges faces if Perry is able to put together a top 5 starting rotation for 8 to 10 million per year. 💰

The spring will be fun. Lots of competition. Short of Bernes, Fried or some other ace-y type guy, not sure if a FA starter would even be constructive.

Wasn’t too long ago I completely wrote off the pitching of having any chance of being decent for years to come. Nice to see some options emerging recently. Still probably too early to get too excited but great to see .hopefully these guys can finish off strong

I felt comfortable enough to take a nap after 6 1/2. Woke up to the same score as a final. It’s too late but we finally have a dependable bullpen

I’m very optimistic about both starting and relief pitching going forward.

Watching Aldi pitch this game is giving me a little bit of hope for the future rotation. He will still go through some bumps and growing pains, but his poise and command looked good against a pretty decent offense.

Yep. He’s just about at the point where guys will have a bunch of tape on him. So he’s due a bad start at some point. Then it’ll be his turn to watch what went wrong and we’ll see if he’s good, or just new, or eventually both.

Obviously we need to see these young guys “prove it” over the course of another season or two but, it’s nice to see that we have some legit potential with a number of these starters. So much so that Chase Silseth has been completely forgotten. Good problems to have.
