Both Brandon Drury and Zach Neto contributed defensive miscues to this game that would have been rather forgettable were it not for multi-homer games for both Adell and Moniak. Neto actually got an error. Drury just wasn’t where he was supposed to be.
Seattle failed to score in the first inning. So did the Angels. Justin Turner homered straight off in the second inning to make it 1-0 Mariners. After a few outs Anthony Rendon doubled to lead off the bottom of the second. Mickey Moniak managed to get him to third with a ground out. That was where he stayed.
Tyler Anderson had a little trouble in the top of the third inning. He walked J.P. Crawford and Julio Rodriguez got a base hit to put two on with one out for Cal Raleigh. Raleigh hit into a force out. Randy Arozarena struck out. Matt Thaiss almost homered and then Jo Adell homered to tie the game.
Justin Turner homered again to lead off the fourth inning. 2-1 Mariners. A Dylan Moore single and walks to Victor Robles and J.P. Crawford loaded the bases with two outs. Julio Rodriguez hit a liner to left to score both Moore and Robles. 4-1 Mariners.
In the fifth, Randy Arozarena reached on an error by Zach Neto. After a couple of strikeouts, Dylan Moore doubled to put men at second and third with two outs. Fortunately, Mitch Garver popped out.
In the bottom of the sixth Jo Adell homered again. 4-2 Mariners.
Rendon singled to start off the bottom of the seventh inning. Logan O’Hoppe struck out but Mickey Moniak homered to tie the game. He has homered in three of his last four games including two days in a row.
JT Chargois came in to pitch for Bryan Woo. He shut the Angels down. Nothing really happened until Ward doubled to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning. He made it to third on a wild pitch. On a suicide squeeze play, Taylor Ward was out at the plate and Jack Lopez was out at first. So much for the momentum.
Ben Joyce came in for the ninth inning. He hit Randy Arozarena by a pitch and Justin Turner singled. He managed to get out of the inning without giving up a run. Mickey Moniak hit his second homer of the game to win it. 5-4 Angels.
