LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Released

The Angels released Amir Garrett and Adam Kolarek.

Major Injuries

A.J. Minter will have surgery to address a hip issue. It’s the end of his season, of course.

Bummer!

The Rockies put catcher Elias Diaz on waivers. Hey! We can claim this guy and DFA that bum, Logan O’Hoppe. The Nationals designated Harold Ramirez for assignment. Ummm. Let the kids play. We already have infielder/outfielders, and Canning has a Gold Glove plus two full major league Innings of error-less ball in the outfield. Your basic two-way superstar.

The Yankees just designated Enyel de los Santos for assignment. They make room for Oswald Peraza and Will Warren. The Mariners just plain released right-hander Mauricio LLovera. Speaking of right-handers, Parker Dunshee is designated for assignment. The Diamondbacks just optioned Alek Thomas. Chow down on minor league food for awhile I guess.

Promotions

The Giants just selected outfielder Grant McCray. There was an opening on the 40 man roster so no tantalizing waiver wire prospects.

Manfraud stayed up all night to come up with this one, a new rule that says starting pitchers must pitch 6 innings? Because it will return hitting back to the game and more excitement and save pitcher’s arms. Why pay pitchers then, just use a HS pitching machine and wheel it out of the way starting the 7th.

Seriously, does this guy like the game of Baseball? I’m still back on saving arms…WTF!

This current losing streak has put us back to .500 since that low point of 21-38, 17 games under. So this is also our low point, looked at it that way

We played .500 w/o Detmers and Sandoval and Rengifo and Trout and Rendon for the most part, who would have believed that was possible? Ok-Pineapple would have. 🍍

I’m confused by those of you who see a difference in this team from last year or the year before etc. It is the same ole thing different season. Streaks of .500+ ball – sometimes extended ones – followed by losing streaks of equal or longer length. Beating teams we think they should lose to and even winning some series against those clubs. And then losing repeatedly to teams we expect them to beat. It’s the same story every year for a while now. This team is no different.

There are some bright spots in certain young players but that does not change the same inconsistent and mediocre team as in previous years.

Its Groundhog Day.

Angels-centric musings on Aaron Judge.

> He’s only a freaking year younger than Mike Trout. But took a lot longer to reach the Majors, which is why he’s playing his 955th game at age 32.
> Unlike Mike: appears to have gotten all his injury issues out of the way in his late 20s.
> Was a late 1st round draft pick in 2013 (32nd overall) out of Fresno State.
> The Halos originally held the 30th pick in that draft, but forfeited it… by signing Josh Hamilton.

At the Rangers didn’t pick Judge with it.

I think the Halos should learn a lesson from Adell and Moniak (Phillies mistake) and not call up Moore until next season and only after the season starts (Kris Bryant shudders). Moniak and Adell would’ve had options had they not been rushed to the bigs.

Adell and Moniak were HS draftees vs CMo was the best hitter in the SEC.

As long as he performs in AA, why would he spend any more time down in Rocket City than Nolan did? Get him into the hands Wash and Co. asap

If Moore stays in the minors until about 20 days into the 2025 season, then the Angels would delay his free agency by a year. If he is called up anytime between now and roughly mid April, then he’s a free agent after the 2030 season. If he is called up after the April deadline, then he’s a free agent after the 2031 season.

From the team’s perspective, wouldn’t it be better to have the chance to keep him in 2031 rather than junk time now and the first couple of weeks in 2025?

From Moore’s perspective, I’d love to see him play now.

Which is why baseball created the Prospect promotion incentive program in the last CBA. If the Angels think he’s got a good shot to be rookie of the year then get him as many at bats as you can this year without damaging his ROY eligibility

It’s way too small of a sample size. Getting brought up too early to the bigs is generally a very bad idea both developmentally and Organizationally. There are exceptions, sure, and we see that in Neto. But that is very rare. Getting at least a year in the Minors is very important for the development of players and to bring them along in their development. There are also additional benefits from the Organizational standpoint (extends out free agency and more options). As a result, I see no reason to bring up Moore at this point with where the team is in the standings.

gitchogritchoffmypettis
Legend
Reply to  Fansince1971

If he just plain continues to murder the pitching in AA/AAA next year after a solid Spring Training then bring him up if they want. Especially if his fielding work is showing results.

I just don’t think this “get him out of the MiLB cause NAH DEVERLAPMINT!” is really all that smart. As if being near Ron Washington while trying to learn 2B and get a first taste of MLB pitching is some magically better way to develop than AA. It’s just stupid.

Fkn CtPG Guy needs to STFU and let the team handle their prospect. If they think he can handle some big league action they’ll bring him up and some fat fk moron on the internet will still have zero actual insight. We all just need to remember the bitchings that were bitched the day so many of us were sad lipped when we drafted him “early” cause Arte is cheap. Let the kid work for a while if he needs it.

gitchogritchoffmypettis
Legend
Reply to  Angelz4ever

This is a good point.

we don’t have to desperately compete to keep the Unicorm’s attention and his mom smiling anymore. If Moore needs work on defense, let him hang out in AA/AAA and get reps. Let him get a ton of ABs too. If all’s well he’ll only get better.

It’s not the end of the world if he gets a quick look this year and goes to MLB camp this spring for a few games, but MiLB will be fine for him.

After traveling stadiums this summer, I noticed something that really makes a statement about Angel history. We don’t have any player statues. During my trip I took pics with Yount/Aaron, Thomas, Sandberg. Come home and all we got is a cowboy. Guess Trout may be first statue, Vlady is our HOF but didn’t play enough yrs. Hated blue neighbor has 2, Robinson and Koufax but they don’t count for LA, they are from Brooklyn and even wear the B on cap inHOF.. Thats like us putting a Carew statue out. The LA D team has no true statue icon like us, Kershaw will be first.

Maybe the Halos should have lenticular posters (Like the old 7-11 cups/coins) where you look at them from a different angles and it has a different picture?

We could have Crew, Grich, Ryan, Vlad Sr., Downing, Winfield, Hunter and others posted so that at first glance they have on an Angels uniform, then next glance it is another MLB uniform or uniforms.

I think you’re right 78. Schanuel who got called up on August 18th last year. Schanny only got 109 At Bats but 132 Plate Appearances because he walked so much. The rookie limit is 115 At Bats I doubt Moore would be able to do the same so if they bring him up too early he’ll have to sit on the pine too much .

Went to the game last night. My friend was given 50 free tickets (500 level) of which they were only able to give away the four I used. I was shocked at how few people were at the stadium. It was about as bad as a daytime A’s game I went to last year. If we’d wanted, we could’ve made it to field level. Arte has got to be thinking of something.

Arte still gets the gate money, concessions take a hit, but less toilet flushes and stale OC drinking fountain water used have Arte making bank. The team has plenty of corps lining up to run adds connected to the team.

SoCal fans are notorious for showing up only when a local team is winning or Michael Jordan or other legend or specific team like the Yankees (Bile rises) comes to town.

During the Vlade Divac/Micheal Thompson era, even Lakers tix prices dropped and there were a lot of empty seats. That’s when I was actually able to afford to go to a Lakers game, so I know.

It’s that sport where until the ultra-digital-age of information days you could beat your wife/girlfriend, kids and anyone, drunk drive and even cause public brawls and get suspended for like…..maybe a game or two.

Also, the only sport where you get convicted of drunk driving, thereby causing someone’s death, and get a job offer the day you are paroled/released from your 38-day jail sentence.

That sport.

Three hits for us good guys, the Jays had 2 guys get 3 hits each, one is a .200 hitter. Guerrero I can understand getting three hits as he is the hottest hitting 1B in MLB right now. I guess that winning 70 is still in the cards, but we need some hitting to get there and that’s a big hill for a climber. Good news is Thaiss had a 2-hit night-he seems well rested too.
