Welcome to the first Tuesday Links of July. We are in the countdown to the trade deadline. What’s the over/under on how many prospects Perry Minasian will waste trading for veterans who will fail to perform. (I hope I am jesting.) Jose Soriano is expected to start tonight against the Athletics.
Hey! We could get Chris Devenski back. He’s been released by the Rays. Julio Teheran is also available. Sinkerballer Matt Bowman opted out of his minor league deal with the Mariners and Tony Kemp opted out of his minor league deal with the Twins.
Who do you think the Angels could get from the Dodgers by trading Tyler Anderson and Luis Rengifo?
The Brewers just designated infielder Owen Miller for assignment.
The Phillies lost both Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber to the injured list, though neither injury is said to be serious.
I guess barfing on the pitcher’s mound is beginning to catch on.
Kim Ng is now a Senior Advisor to Athletes Unlimited which is developing a softball league that is set to debut in the Spring of 2025. Andrew Miller just got a gig as a Special Assistant to the MLBPA for strategic initiatives.
Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda passed away at the age of 86.

Remember when Arte didn’t make that last push to sign Patrick Corbin (who openly said he didn’t want to play out west) in the winter of 2018? How it kicked the “Arte doesn’t care about winning enough to spend and just collects 3M fans a year” hypervent?
I do. I just saw Corbin’s stats since the 2019 season…. sheesh, he sucks. But on the bright side he costs a ton. Some of you may recall that it was a less common but still present bitch when we didn’t pursue Steven Strausburg and signed Rendon instead. Imagine how awesome we’d be now if we had just committed to winz and signed both those guys. Stupid Arte and his puppet GMs.
and yet here we are at 36-47 after a string of terrible seasons so whatever brilliance our GMs have shown by not signing Corbin or Strasburg is tempered by our 9th consecutive losing record.

I actually don’t mind the haul we would get from the Dodgers in this posted article. I know it would be hard trading with the other LA team, but we fill their needs very well right now.
I considered writing an article in which we ship Rengifo and Anderson to LA for a haul of prospects.
Anderson’s value is too low on the sim IMO and could be boosted tremendously by Arte covering salary, particularly if trading with a luxury tax payor.
The Dodgers are going to have a brighter future than us either way. But I’d love to snag some of their future.
No trade with Dodgers. Somehow, some way they would get the best of us in a big way and be laughing in our faces later. They ripped off so many teams at the trade deadline with hyped prospects that don’t even make the MLB. I’d rather Angels help stack Phillies, Brewers or Padres for prospects.
Good news. Tim Anderson is available to replace our bullshit SS from a bullshit farm and a bullshit GM who doesn’t scout for shit.
Remember, you wanted that? I do.
We could probably get Joc Pederson and Avasail Garcia on squad as well…..
He’s not a bad pick up once we have sold off all of our parts, especially is he is willing to play 2B for us. He’d cost the MLB pro rated min, and we have no one to play 2B for this year if we trade Rengifo and Drury.
Unfortunately TA is toast
‘sup Halo faithful!?
What’s up?
Just watching what I hope is a rebuild and paying very little via StubHub when I do show up.
Rengifo is leading the league in hitting and is not on an expiring contract. We should definitely make someone pay for that should we trade him. The thing that is difficult, is that the players we draft and acquire via trade this year will likely not be on the major league club until at least 2026. We’re going to have to be patient.
Thank you for your interest. We don’t rebuild, we don’t do the patient thing, because we don’t rebuild.

or we could extend Rengifo.
Novel idea, I know.
Now is the time to move him.
For what ?
Who do you suggest we move him for ? What should we get in return ?
Since you are so anxious to move him you should at least tell us all what we’ll be getting back in return.
According to the sims, about 13pts worth of prospects,,,, so, like I’ve been saying, at least a couple, maybe three guys from a good farm’s mid-top 30.
I was asking for names, not just “some guys who are rated high.” Frankly, I don’t give a shit about player ratings. Anyway, the question was directed at him, not at you…
I am actually good with either path, trade him for value or extend him and buy time at 3B.
Almost everything good involves patience. The Mets tried the “instant version” a couple years back…. no bueno. And now, their current hot streak is mostly due to their line ups “heart” in Alvarez…. a prospect.
One thing me and most CtPG Guyz agree on, we all really enjoy watching our own kids make good. The difference being CeeePeeee gets all wanky when I guy takes more than 100 ABs to make him excited. I think orgs/rosters actually also kind of enjoy that vibe too, coming together and starting something good, joining up with that vibe if you’re an FA, etc. I think the next 24 odd months will see Neto/O’Hoppe/Trout become a core that guys like Adell and Nolan augment (we hope). We’ll probably see some pen arms, Soriano, maybe another arm become pieces too. Next season will add a few more names, I hope, from trades etc. At that point, when the team has it’s character, we can get some effective FAs and be good.
It’s slow, but it’s also the rout to being the Rays/Brewers with cash, which means having a great time for a long time. I’m really glad we’re biting the bullet now and moving that way.
I don’t always agree with your posts, but this is exactly how I feel.

Props to dredging that pic up….
Geefy to Yankee makes so much sense for them. He’s EXACTLY what they need most.
Perry needs to “win” multiple trades and snag top prospects by July 30th?
He got us O’Hoppe and Neto.
We need Perry to channel that version of himself again.
We really don’t want to play this out given his trade deadline deals last year. Let’s just agree that Perry has made some good trades, and he’s made some “less than desirable” trades.
We can’t absorb any setbacks on the road to recovery and need him to be error-free at this trade deadline.
Can we give Perry a mulligan for last year’s deadline and blame it on Arte?
Genuinely asking …
Yes, I’m good with that – especially since The Dark Lord was surely involved.
Yah. Besides, you gotta love how everyone on here’s like “Holy shit! I didn’t want the Angels to trade at the deadline last year. No way Jose!”
Yep, apparently I just missed the whole “sell off, build anew” vibe that’s been around here since 2021.
No GM, not even Jedi is going to be successful working with an owner who has to approve every trade or draft choice. No Gm for the Angels will draft any better with limited resources devoted to the Scouting Department. This team relies on the scrap pile as much as it can, and Perry it would seem struck gold there this year. And no team can absorb setbacks, but they all do, it is an imperfect science at best, especially given the fact that Perry is on a tight budget.
Arte approves every trade and draft choice? Source?
Yes. This is true.

It’s true because I have felt this way for a long time.
You do have to consider the timing of the trades, we were still in contention when we made those trades, it is easy to look back and say they “sucked” but at the time we were trying to get over the hump maybe get a wild card spot, to try and capitalize Ohtani and maybe get him to consider staying with the Angels.
I think the bigger criticism would be not trading Ohtani either last year or at the trade deadline the year before but I also think that is on Moreno. I don’t believe Ohtani ever seriously considered resigning with the Angels and we should traded him when we could have gotten something for him.
The bottomline is that no GM is perfect they all have made bad trades, drafting players that don’t pan out. I would like to see what Perry could do when a functional organization behind him, one that supports him with a actual scouting and player development departments in place and a organizational plan that they stick to to develop a consistent “winning” environment.
Plus less shitty fan magic. PTP’d be alright.
Oh sure. We need that GM that is error free. Of course. Why not.
You must be new to baseball. I’d like to welcome you and hope you enjoy years of watching the sport.
Last year Perry was buying and he did a bad job.
The prior year he was selling and I think he did a great job. O’Hoppe alone is a win, unloading big salaries in Iglesias and Thor was a win. Shedding Thor’s salary and adding Moniak was a win.
Granted he could have brought back much more talent had Arte eaten some contract but he didn’t have that flexibility in all likelihood.
Plus we got Tucky D

So you’re saying we’re ready to trade him for a guy we’ll waive by the middle of August?
Just hope Perry does not feel compelled to promote him this year
The kid is starting to tire recently..In his last 3 starts Dana has a 6.91 ERA a1.60 WHIP and a 5.75 BB/9 . At least hes still striking out batters though at 10K/9
