LA Angels Monday Links: Detmers Down

Reid Detmers got sent to “an environment where he can refind who he is,” also known as Salt Lake City.

The Athletics designated right-hander Aaron Brooks for assignment. As if it couldn’t get any worse for the White Sox, Andrew Benintendi is now on the injured list with left achilles tendonitis.

Ranger Suarez got hit on his pitching hand by a line drive and had to exit the game. X-rays were negative. The Orioles lost both a left-hander and a right-hander to torn UCLs. Both will have season ending surgery. It’s the second time for each of them. Red Sox second baseman Vaughn Grissom pulled his hamstring and went onto the ten day IL.

Infielders Brian Anderson and Michael Chavis both opted out of their minor league deals with the Mariners and are free agents.

I can see how Tommy Pham ended up getting stabbed.

The Tigers optioned Spencer Torkelson. He’s a first baseman for another team so ordinarily I wouldn’t care. It might lead to more playing time for Gio Urshela, though. Blake Snell has a groin injury now.

Fresh ForTheWin tagline on the interwebs:

“Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano is reportedly facing a lifetime ban for betting on his own team”
OMG, really? Even back in the cowboy days it was spelled out very clearly in a contract-Back in those days you couldn’t even go into a Casino.

Ignorance much!?

Betting on he’s own team? He definitely had some sweet action on his Padre team to win tonight.

Per Jeff Fletcher,

Anthony Rendon is scheduled to begin baseball work this week.

Mike Trout still just doing rehab.

Brandon Drury is hitting on the field and taking GBs today.

Wondering if any of the $325,000 worth of baseball cards Ippei purchased from online resellers included Ohtani rookie cards?

Why not bring up Tanking “CD Pelham” 1, 2, 3? Let’s just get it over with. This guy is a real beauty, acquired straight-up for 3-cases of Pacifico and a gallon of Don Julio agave honey Tequila.

Wonder if Trout is watching this team and wishes he did the meniscus surgery with the longer recovery time but better long term outlook. Those trims that heal in 6 weeks are usually associated with higher risk of early arthritis.

Stay the course with Adell. Fearfull Wash may want to muck with him. Now is not the time to bench him in favor of some journeyman or a Moniak. It is not a surprise to me he went into a tailspin and looking to see how well he responds, if at all.

Tonight is Pride Night at the Big A.

Not that you’d know from the front page of the team website. It is hidden as well as they can hide it. Which is obviously the plan.

There are games in which Canning, Detmers, and even Sandoval look like quality MLB level guys.

Which makes me think the talent is in there. After all, they have e shown it.

The complete lack of consistency has to rest in part on below par coaching and video.

Our starters seem to have to channel Cy Young through 6 or 7 innings to have a chance at winning. Even as fans, when an Angel starter gives up one run through four innings, we start going into a depression as a 1-0 deficit doesn’t usually bode well later in the game.

Of course, that means that’s when the Gas can boys come out of the blow-pen.

I wonder if the need to be perfect negatively impacts our starters. Very rarely do they attempt to pitch to contact and get quick outs. Nibbling has been the one constant throughout the years.

When you know you can afford to give up a couple of runs and still win you can pitch more aggressively.

This changes from week-to-week, but our current power rankings:

Anderson
Canning
Soriano
Sandoval
Detmers (Yes, I’m aware that he was sent down)

I’m hoping that Silseth takes Reid’s turn in the rotation versus some scrap heap pick up.

Why is Paris still with the team and Stefanic is at SLC? Granted, Stefanic has very little power but he makes consistent contact every place he plays when given a chance. Any guesses as to when the “resurgent” Adell breaks through the Mendoza line? June 6 sounds good to me.

Stefanic still on rehab assignment but is close. He probably has a better medical plan through the plumbers union than what evil Arte has setup.

1.) Paris – Defense is his calling card and they are certainly he develops into a league average hitter. I have major doubts on the latter.

2.) Stefanic – He just got off a loooong IR stint and didn’t really have Spring Training. I’d imagine that he’ll be up here soon as injury attrition will occur OR they send Shanny down.

3.) Adell – I think he’s .203 or .201 now, so, I would say the next game. Still, they should keep rolling him out there as a full-time player until October. They’ve stuck with him this long so we’re compelled to see it thru.

I totally agree with that. run them all out there every day for the rest of the season and at the end of the year, make your evaluation. Unless you want to manipulate service time which doesn’t apply to Adell and maybe not Mickey. Schanuel is clearly not ready to play in the major leagues so they are wasting his service time. After this year, O’hoppe will only have one year left before arbitration. Because of injuries last year this is Neto’s 1st year I believe.

Yup, Schannuel is an obvious candidate. Repeating myself, but I think he gets sent down when either Drury or Stefanic is ready.

Drury has been huge loss. They were counting on him to hit 4th or 5th, with similar performance to last year.

G Rich wants to know why you’ve already forgotten about him and his 3.64 ERA before he got “dehydrated”

Darren O’Day, Matt Shoemaker and Jorden Walden are a little but hurt too. You can even make an argument that Detmers now been surpassed by Griffin Canning in terms of development.

Of course Losing/Trading away prospects like Nick Adenhart, Will Smith, Patrick Corbin Tyler Skaggs, Mike Clevinger, Austin Adams, Kenyan Middleton and Kyle Bradish haven’t helped. Nor has the noticeable lack of resources expended to sign and develop international free agents as Jose Soriano is probably the best prospect from that market since Ervin Santana. This is Arte’s biggest failure IMO.

Patrick Corbin. Man I remeber the ocean of piss that swelled forth when cheap Arte didn’t sign that contract…. with a player who came out and said he was signing with an East Coast team.

Corbin was the beginning of the trend of bitch ass Angels fans getting really angry about NOT signing stupid contracts.

I have an offshore account. Had about $170 left over from the NFL playoffs, didn’t cash it out so I could bet some MLB. Then, after the first week of the season, I knew they sucked. I bet a usual small amount around $10 Eppei bucks almost every game on them to lose. I didn’t bet some road games where they’ve won more, bet a few games for them to win, also occasionally bet $50 or $100 bets all on them to lose (I’m probably 50/50 on those). At this point, little over 2 months in, my account is about $370. This includes betting on other MLB game to.

Most important fact, they don’t win home games, and they never win day games. They are underdogs every game, so most nights my $10 bets I win $5. As the old saying goes, scoreboard. Bet them to lose most nights, you win.

I truly thought that this was Reid’s breakout season. 🙇 I do believe that the only thing left for Arte to prove is that he can only get inepter is by not changing the way he does business, and by holding on for dear life to the Angels. The team is not worth as much as last year and will continue to shrink in value as there is literally no upside to this franchise except location.

The magic word here is just plain and simple SELL-SELL-SELL-SELL-SELL-SELL- it is the same will the White Sox and the A’s, the Pirates, and the Marlins and Rockies.

Manfraud wants to fix the game, start with ownership, stop changing the game, start changing out ownership. Franchise! Franchise! You want to sell more Franchise’s when 20% of what you got is a mess. State, County, City governments are not in the market to subsidize MLB Billionaires stadiums. Milwaukee and Cleveland populations are shrinking, literally no one wants the A’s and the baggage that will arrive with that idiot owner, and Arte has no stadium deal in place either.

Somebody quickly kick my soap box out from under me, 💥
