The Can Man was great, but offense still struggles

The Angels pitching has been in question for quite a while but today that wasn’t the case. It was the offense that couldn’t get it done. Griffin Canning had a start that his whole family would be proud of. His final stat line, 6.2IP, giving up only 1 run which came on a Luke Raley HR, 4 hits,1BB and 4K’s.

Canning looked very sharp today commanding his change-up very well. In fact, the usage of his change-up was up today and he should look to continue this as he got some swings and misses off of it and soft contact.

Now to the Angels offense. You can’t win a lot of games with an average exit velo of 76MPH. It’s very difficult to win games with soft contact and not a lot of balls put in play. There was one ball hit over 100MPH for the Halos today and it was Taylor Wards double in the very first inning.

Along with that Castillo was throwing a lot of fastballs and it seemed as if the Angels had holes in their bats, the amount of swings and misses on fastballs over the heart of the plate was concerning, and even with all those swings and misses the Halos mustered up 1 run in the top of the Ninth with a Zach Neto RBI single.

As the offense struggled, so did the Angels bullpen. After Canning left the game the Halos bullpen managed to give up 4 runs in 1.1 innings. Luke Raley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th with two outs making it a 2-0 ball game, and shortly after that Mitch Garver had a bases clearing double to make it 5-0.

Final score Mariners 5 Angels 1.

Paris .136 BA. Along with Mickey and Joe, that’s 1/3 of our line up.

Angels please continue to suck the next 3 games. I like the Padres in the National league. Not as much as the Angels overall, but at least they are being competitive and the management tries to get good players. If weโ€™re losing anyways just keep tanking the next 3 lol.

Should be 50% off. Team is horrible and no more Ohtani gear. Nobody is buying !

He needs an intervention immediately

Might be trying to self-injure himself by diving into the stands on an uncatchable ball. On this team, who wouldn’t welcome a trip to the DL? The last 2 months, I’ve wished an injury to myself, I’d be happy with an eye and ear infection.

I actually looked that up.

Since April 29, Angels starters Anderson, Sandoval, Canning and Soriano have a combined 3.41 ERA over 147.2 IP.

They just need to keep that going while fixing … everything else.

SP minus Reid has been incredible, even with that last egg by Sandoval. A team should be in the thick of things if 4/5 of their starting pitching has a 3.50 ERA.

The problem is, as inferior teams go, Angels just canโ€™t put everything together consistently in games.

SP/Offense will be good – BP will give up the game.

SP/BP will be good – Offense lays an egg

SP/BP both good, Offense mediocre enough to score some runs – Defense is atrocious.

Yeah, that wonโ€™t last. Pitching will go to crap and the offense will wake up.

Just a bad organization from the tippy top to the very bottom.

Well my point exactly. When the offense finally breaks through, theyโ€™ll have awful starting pitching.

Like any other bad team, canโ€™t, wonโ€™t put it together.

This is what weโ€™ve been watching for years, somewhat tempered by enjoying Ohtani and Trout when heโ€™s not broken.

Now thereโ€™s nothing in the way of showing just how wrecked this franchise is. Even hoping the kids amount to something isnโ€™t enough to numb the pain.

They just need to keep that going while fixing โ€ฆ everything else.

AND when we say fix everything elseโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ..WE MEAN EVERYTHING!!

Everything else is in dire need of a major overhaul. Start with getting them out of bed in the morning, to making sure they are wiping their asses correctly.

Canning has shown this level of ability often enough to know it is in him.

Like all Angels pitchers it comes down to consistency. And we donโ€™t have it.

I would like to thank Nolan for persevering after drawing the short straw.

It takes special people to write about what goes on with this team.
