Tremendous all around game from the Halos. Mickey Moniak swung a big bat, Patrick Sandoval pitched 7 scoreless innings and the Angels scored a dominant win. Kevin Pillar also had his best game in years
The series is knotted at 1-1 with the rubber game tomorrow.
Light up the Jolly, err Halo and celebrate the win!
Pillar probably secured another month with the Angels with today’s performance.
He definitely deserves to be with the team longer than Hicks did just for this game alone.
I see Pillar a better glue guy than Hicks. Also has connection with Wash
So I would expect him to stick for a while.
I figured he was a defensive replacement – but then his bat came alive and his glove is a question. This year is interesting.
Pillar knows what his role and isn’t delusional about it. Hicks was the opposite.
Perry’s Repurposed In Season additions thus far:
Kevin Pillar
Ehire Adrianza
Cole Tucker
Willie Calhoun
Collective Batting: 77 PAs .286/.351/.514
Amir Garrett
Hunter Strickland
Collective Pitching: 17-1/3 IPs 2.08 ERA .845 WHIP
As Crappy as this team’s been this year it hasn’t been because of the 2024 Perry replacements.
True.
The team is crappy because of what Perry did and didn’t do prior to his 2024 replacements.
Fair enough.
In hindsight, there could have been small additions like Clevinger and/or Lorenzen that Perry could have gone for, if he’s really constrained by Arte $$$. I never liked Snell, and would have preferred Monty, if that was an option.
But to play devil’s advocate, as fans we don’t really know who Perry approached and how far negotiations went. Maybe Lorenzen wanted more money than Perry offered (even if Lorenzen went cheap). Or maybe some player Perry liked didn’t like the Angels back, etc.
We all know these replacements are band-aids. They’re not part of the long-term plan (if there is even one). The question is, how long would these band-aids hold, and if they can hold it for that long.
The Stephenson signing has just turned out to be horrible.
The fact that Kevin Pillar’s retention on the roster is a topic Angel fans discuss is beyond ludicrous. It just reinforces how far the franchise has sunk.
Basically. At this point our best hope is to turn chicken shit (Pillar, Drury, Estevez, Anderson, etc) into chicken salad (prospects & more prospects).
Wait …… what???? An Angels starter pitched a full 7 innings!!!! I have been bagging on Pillar, for good reason, and he decides to turn the clock back and show up big. Maybe I should pick another player to bag on and see if they can have a career game.
this is the way
Only 7.5 games out of the wildcard.
We will win some games.
Nice to see O’Hoppe bounce back with a 4-Hit game. Moniak & Schanny with 2 hits apiece & Sandoval looking like the 2022 varietal.
Nothing to complain about. Great pitching and great hitting, and a great win. Congrats.
…. and tomorrow we score 1 or 2 runs and again …… lose a series.
WE WON!!!
In grand fashion.
Is that allowed?
YES!!!
That’s such a “baseball” moment for Pillar.
Just randomly setting a career high for RBIs on a random Tuesday after just getting signed.
I’ve been meaning to research whether he just loves him some National League pitching. Maybe it’s the park.
Maybe he just knows he damn well better step up, or else learn Korean.
Accordion to my research, he usually does very badly at PNC. In 10 games (4 starts) his tOPS+ is 17. That’s bad. At Angel Stadium it is 77, which is also bad but much better. He does best at Nats and Kauffman
Hell. According to this article, Kole Calhoun showed up and got a walk. Everybody pitched in.
They did that in Spring Training as well
we’re about to be a full 1/2 game (! is there a thing as a full half?) ahead of Houston
