LA Angels Monday News Crash:

As of Friday, Robert Stephenson is dealing with shoulder discomfort and might not be ready for opening day. Patrick Sandoval struck out five guys in 4 1/2 innings during the Angels shutout loss to the Diamondbacks.

Do you think that Luis Garcia is our secret weapon?

Gerrit Cole says it is “nerve inflammation” and it will be about three to four weeks.

Mike Clevinger is only seeking a one year deal. That’s Arte territory. Tommy Pham might end up back in San Diego.

Reds center fielder TJ Friedl just broke his wrist. Oops. The weekend was rough on outfielders as Josh Lowe will also probably miss the season opener.

Sooooo anger engorged CtPG Guy ….. what would be the point for the Angels to sign Snell for the contract he just signed with the Giants?

Especially if all your hard nippled bitching is right, why would he take that contract from us?

And what good is one to two years of Snell doing us? Really. What does Blake Snell change as of now?

How does Snell’s 2 year contract fit into a “reboot/tear down”? His “grit” rubs off on the kids? Having trouble finding guys to show our kids how to throw 5 innings?

Explain to me how you’re not basically mad simply because Arte won’t spend 31M a year to gain ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of substance just to make you feelz nice feelz for a week before you get all pink and stiff and angry again.

Hell. What about THE DRAFT PICK!?! When you need an extra bitch for the tip in the past isn’t any draft pick and bonus pool money we give up to sign an FA declared a fatal error…. followed by declaring we can’t draft or develop anyone….?

Now that I typed that out…. Jeebz that’s stupid….

Here’s to Angels fans getting some true cheap ownership by August. Strip it all down. Let’s have zero arb eligible players for a couple years. Just MiLB free agents and prospects…. some old dudes on invites…. maybe if we start marching through the 100 loss season portion of the desert it’ll kill off this stiff necked people faster and we can get some good fan ju ju going in a couple years and start winning. If we tear down that hard we may even find it’s a path to Arte selling the team to some Saudi royalty or something. Then we can Yankee out like true assholes.

Arte, do baseball a favor — trade Trout or sell the team. You’re as worthless as Frank McCourt and John Fisher. Maybe once people start speaking with their wallets, you’ll listen.

You want to live in the shadows of the Doyers and cry poor? Hope you’re comfortable since you’re going to be there a for a long (long) time.

You claim you want to compete. With what? A bunch of AAA players? That doesn’t fly in MLB. I used to joke that thanks to the A’s being the AL West, the Angels can’t finish last. I’m not sure about that. This team might lose 100 games, and you’ll continue to spout your drivel.

You’re a fucking (March) embarrassment to baseball.

Way to lose out in on Snell. Feel sorry for Trout, he’s asking for some Star power if only to replace a minimal of Ohtani’s presence. But nope, Arte going cheap even though he says team is still going for it. ST has not gone well for our hitters, starting pitching average. MLB power rankings has us at 26, just above rebuilding teams?? Arte must be Ok with us becoming an Ohtani-less joke of a club. Save the season sign Bauer and Martinez. Even if that doesn’t make us contenders do it for Mike.

He’ll be in either a NYY or Philly uniform before his 34th birthday. There’s no way he chooses to stay with a team that can’t get to the playoffs yearly.

I thought he just proclaimed his everlasting commitment to the Los Angels Angels and he is not the kind of guy who would take the easy way out?

Take a closer look at what he said. Asking for a trade in the past or “today” would have been the easy way out. As for the future, his commitment is aligned to winning.

“I think the easy way out is to ask for a trade,” Trout told reporters. “There might be a time, maybe. I really haven’t thought about this. When I signed that contract, I’m loyal. I want to win a championship here. The overall picture of winning a championship or getting to the playoffs here is the bigger satisfaction than bailing out or taking the easy way out. I think that’s been my mindset. Maybe down the road, if some things change.”

See, there’s no logical reason to spend 30M on Snell right now.

When you can’t use thoughts to justify your hot feelz go directly with sentiment. Poor fking Trout.

Solid non-move by Arte by not getting involved with Snell. I gave the Angels a C for the off-season. I just bumped it up to a B. Cost avoidance, nice.

now I’m hoping JDM and Montgomery sign elsewhere so I can post my funny revised IIWPM which includes “leave $50 mil in Arte’s pocket”.

I’m half kidding. I don’t really want Martinez because then we’ve got guys sitting due to JDM hogging the DH at-bats. Monty, on the other hand….he’d be useful.

The thing that really perplexes me, is why Arte wants to stay now, if his team stinks and he is refusing to put money into it to improve it the way he usually thinks he can improve it.

I guess it is perhaps what others have said… is there a property development deal in the works? If so, I hope it comes to fruition soon so Arte can cash in and sell the team.

Artie is selling the team for sure… this is what you do when you are selling…keep a flashy asset (Trout) to attract a billionaire buyer…but strip the rest of the club so that the new guy has $$ to spend. This process can take years waiting on that billion $ offer tho… during that time…just don’t go to any games…even the players know this…waste of time.

He doesn’t need to wait. Owning a major league baseball team is very attractive. Their’s probably a line waiting. It’s like he doesn’t want to sell, compete, or rebuild. He’s a money guy. Something has got to be behind his current do nothing path.

Spoken like a guy who will never be a billionaire. Sure, buying a team’s always a great thing to do. But it’s even better if I do it after Arte’s paid off almost all of the expensive players I don’t want for as long as he will. And the TV situation settles down. And maybe I even have a stadium plan…. maybe even in a new city… in my file cabinet waiting for me to buy.

I didn’t get rich enough to buy the Angels by pissing away 30M dollar chunks of money and shrugging my shoulders.

PS. I’m also not gonna run up a 300M payroll year after year either because I’ll want the team to make ME MONEY.

PS PS. Unicorns aren’t real.

gitchogritchoffmypettis

You’re right. I’d say we’ll lose another round of expensive players this July and this winter and sign no one. Rendon will be 1 year closer to being done acting as CtPG Guys hate Viagra. By then we’ll look A LOT like the type of team that’s a prime candidate to get sold.

But it’s meaningless if it’s poorly spent. This is really just a 100M payroll team with two 40M players doing nothing. I was mildly optimistic, but this could be a long ugly year resembling an entire year like the last two months of last year. he bought a pretty good organization and after 20 years, he finally ran it into the ground. There is no hope going forward unless he sells, gets an investor, or until Rendon expires and he invests or sells or gets an investor.

I’d like to think he’s looked at this years free agents and decided there are no players worth investing significant salary on. No sense adding to the list of non-performers and making the problem grow. People here just want to match last years salary just because. 2024 has been a poor free agent year, lot of risk

I agree. But my gladness about this development is tempered, because it is quite possible that Arte just doesn’t want to spend anymore in general, even if it would have been a wise signing.

But I look at it this way… I’d rather they make the right choice for the wrong reason than the wrong choice for a different wrong reason.

I just don’t like the hollow bullshit response the Arte’s lap dog Roger Lodge has been making on the air that if the Angels are in contention at the trade deadline they go out and acquire the players then to help compete them, Really? Can we even afford to trade away any more minor league talent for rental players considering how then our system is right now? How well did that work out for us last year?.

This is the week when Spring Training games start to resemble the regular season. Pitchers will go 5 innings and throw breaking pitches. Hitters will get 3 or 4 at bats.

You’ll still see some uniform numbers in the 90s and prospects, but we’re getting to 80% reality or so.

Generally this is where guys who were working on something in Spring either keep it or let it go.

David Fletcher is trying his hardest to break camp with a spot on the Braves roster, he’s having a very good ST playing 2b/3b. Remember Matt Duffy, he too has had a decent ST for Texas-like Fletch he is trying hard for the inf utl spot. Yep, as we all know, ST numbers mean very little, but then why do Mikey’s numbers bother me so much.

I think only one ex-Twinkie will make the team. Neato will have a solid season. Canning will be the best pitcher on the starting staff.

Useless often wrong opinions…

Good news for this season..our pitching will not be the primary reason for what is likely another 90 loss season, our woeful offense has leapfrogged it. Lots of 3-1/4-2 loses.

Not well versed on MLB rosters but I’ll assume this is one of the Worst offenses in 2024, based on eye test, worse than last years bad offense and trAdition. From start to finish. I doubt that at any point do we not have a 30 in that ranking. It will overtake our pitching problems as the number 1 debilitating issue. Predicting the pitching will make a modest jump and will be better than last year.

I think our offense will be just okay but ahead of our starting pitching. Watching Sandoval yesterday reminded me of TJ Wilson who used to nibble too. High pitch counts and couldn’t get past 4 -5 innings. We need most of our starters to go at least 6 before the bullpen gets involved if we have any chance of being decent this year.
