Should see plenty of regulars today with an off day tomorrow.
Angels vs. Rangers Gamethread
Unfortunately, this game might align more with what most people are expecting out of our team this year.
Time to stop hoping Sandoval can regain form. More the reason for Angels to get Snell and Bauer to sign. Sandoval is washed, package him in a trade with Adell for prospects. Sign a veteran 1b/DH.
Its crazy to think thats an option to add 2 legitimate starters this close to the season starting and our team with an obvious need for pitching isn’t doing it.
The media knee-jerk reaction is that we lost Ohtani, so we better do something to replace him immediately or else we’re completely dumb and the whole offseason is ruined.
However, it is very unlikely that we are going to reach the playoffs this year, even if we sign someone.
So having a year of development, seeing what we have, and trading away assets at the trade deadline may be the most prudent approach for this team, even if it means we have a crummy season. That includes not paying top dollar for a pitcher who isn’t really an ace, and will cost a draft pick. And instead spending wisely next year when there are better options available and we are more sure about our core.
Thats fine – then trade the veteran assets and let the young guys develop if the goal isn’t to win games.
I’d love a rebuild. It would give the losing some meaning. But if we want to keep Trout etc. then try to win more games?
Which veterans have trade value at the moment? Rendon (contract), Trout (contract), Anderson (performance), Hicks/Marisnick we just got for nothing. I guess we signed Estevez last year, and Stephenson this, but it isn’t much overall.
so what do we do with Marisnick? To me it’s what they call a no-brainer. Keep him, trade Jo.
Marisnick will regress to his mean soon. He’s had over 2000 MLB at bats and is a career .228 hitter.
My favorite thing about Hunter Strickland’s career is the 2021 season. He had a 1.65 ERA with the Rays, got traded to us and put up a 9.95 ERA, got released then put up a 1.73 ERA with the Brewers
