Now Patrick Sandoval is on the Injured List with an oblique issue. Nolan Schanuel is day to day after fouling a ball off of his knee on Monday. Kyren Paris made the Southern League All Star Team. Woo Hoo! The Angels selected the contract of Kelvin Caceres and placed Aaron Loup on the 60 day IL. Jose Marte got sent down to Triple-A. Caceres started out 2023 in High A ball. At the 15:06 mark here, MLBTR discusses whether the Angels should trade Mike Trout and rebuild.
Another article speculates about where Shohei Ohtani is going.
The Reds just released Kevin Newman. He recently got back from the IL where he was nursing a … you guessed it … oblique injury. The Diamondbacks DFAd right-hander Zach Davies.
Julio Urias went for a combination of strangulation and administering a bloody nose. It is unclear whether the bloody nose resulted from a punch or from when he slammed the woman into a fence. Jail this A-hole already! Enough is enough.

Just caught the end of The Natural. Always a winner when I watch that film.

Aroldis Chapman meltdown alert at Jerry Stadium.
He shut us down. Jerry wins
F-me!
Stupid Chapman
with Pittsburgh’s win today it guarantees us 5th, 6th, or 7th in the lottery. No worse than 7th. St. Louis is very, very good at tanking. Assume they’re #5. So it;ll be between us and the Mets for 6th.
However….Washington is ineligible for the lottery but they will still be in good shape beyond round 1. So it’s probable that we’ll be 6th for the lottery but 7th from round 2 on with the Nats jumping in front of us.
and now Anthony “Estevez” has blown the save in the 9th.Miami has gone ahead 2-1. Thanks, Mets….
Unbelievably bad. Thought we had it. I blame Eppler.
Mets game likely won’t be restarted tonight, due to rain.
The A’s, white Sox, KC and Rockies are clearly the top (??) four.
The cards and Nats each have 69 wins. We have 71, Mets 72. It appears to me we are unlikely to surpass the cards or Nats in the this race to the bottom, so it looks like 7th, unless the Mets move ahead (?) of us, in which case we end up 8th.
Am I missing something?
Never mind. Got it. Nats are ineligible for lottery. We’re currently in 6th, could end up 7th, for the lottery.

I hope we lose the final three games by 10-9 scores.
Our young guns rake and we improve upon our current tank position. Yay.
Well that aint very good pitching hopium for next year. And considering that Silseth, Soriano and Joyce will probably be pitching this weekend, I’m not sure that would be a good idea.
Neto flexes, Adell goes ding-dong 3-times, O’Hoppe poses for Erica, and Shanny Singles comes and cracks a couple off the pine. Let’s do it.
Detroit’s win this morning means we don’t have to worry about them in the tankathon standings. Of course they could jump ahead of us when the lottery happens but we will have a better pick than them for all succeeding rounds. Pittsburgh is next. They need to win a game or we need to lose one and then it’ll be us vs the Mets for the #6.
It is pretty sad that my excitement for Angels Baseball is checking tankathon and getting excited about the standings. 😃
you and me and just about everybody else, my friend
It’s TrAdition
What else is there to root for, it’s reality. It doesn’t mean that we don’t root them on, it only means that it is easier to take the losses. The bat around the other night was great to root for and we won the game. We who are realistic see it as something positive.
…and to you sir, a little bubbly all the way around. Tank you for your support.
The Tankathon, is something I can hoist a bottle to.
It’s down to two teams only, ever since the El Tigres polished off Arte’s Army. Zero need to follow anything else but the M-E-T-S. Almost lost a DH last night if not for our buddy Ottavino and an error. That would have put the tank it overdrive!
If Bradish wins a Cy Young next year, we’ll have to start re-thinking the top of the list of “worst trades in Angels history”.
Vinne Pestano says hi. It’s called payback, after the Angels shook down the Mets for Nolan Ryan.
My number 1 wish for next year…..replacing Sho with another 2-Way player.
And as some world leaders would say…..”Not a joke”

I just saw it posted that Dominic Leone is pitching in game #50 with the Mariners, which triggers a bonus for him that counts against our Luxury Tax, and might make us go over.
So Jerry gets the last laugh, bumping down our compensation for Ohtani. And then he’ll probably sign him too, and laugh more.
The CBT applied amount to the Angels is peanuts. $175,000/ 6 months = $29,167 per month which is about the time Leone spent with this team . if we’re that close to the cap either way and JeDi would know that I’d be shocked.
However, if for some reason he does, it’s another dagger to his ex-employer.
So another reason not to like the POS?
Gotcha.
It is more fun to imagine him sitting in a room at the top of the Space Needle with a white cat on his lap, surrounded by his henchmen laughing maniacally about the Angels.
Ha! And then Jerry and his henchmen, after much yucking it up realize.……. That Perry, and his two interns or Google Assistant (whoever it is that helps him) are laughing maniacally because they have already booked all of their off-season vacation, best golfing Tee Times, fishing boats, cheapest airline tickets, best Airbnb, etc…..
Perry finally wins something. Getting a jump start on all his off-season plans over the last month, along with updating his résumé. While Jerry does all that work for……NOTHING! Home for the playoffs AGAIN!
Eat it Jer Jer!
Well I will imagine him sitting at a desk spilling his Tears on his polished up resume when the JeDi’s team fails yet again to make the playoffs in 8 years at the helm of the Emerald City Mermen.
Obsessions are not healthy 👿
Yeah, I was just painting the picture because it feels like that is the impression I read all the time on this site. He has become a boogie man to some people. I actually don’t mind JeDi at all… he is just a former GM that didn’t work out here and now he is somewhere else.
I don’t really give a crap about Jedi. Whether he was justified in leaving, I don’t know, nor do I care.
What I didn’t like was his manner of departure.
There is an old AA saying.
Fuck them Fucking Fuckers.
And that was my Sept F bombs.
Was able to read a little of this before being blocked because I’m too cheap to pay.
But I am very happy to hear that the Angels work hard and lift weights. That now has been completely ruled out as possible problem……they work hard, not all teams work hard I guess.
https://www.ocregister.com/2023/09/26/angels-looking-for-answers-to-rash-of-oblique-injuries/
Me too on the too $$ cheap part…I don’t pay for nothin.
Because the same article is probably two scrolls down.
They need a Pilates instructor- Trout, Ohtani, Sandy should not be going out for oblique injury
I think the only thing that will fix this injury issue is a new Dr. …..
A WITCH DR.! Take off this curse if at all possible, otherwise we will see the same thing next year. Why wouldn’t we or whoever is the GM next year think any different?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSn7ekxLSRQ
Awesome flashback, fun stuff.
The irony that “Angels” are cursed is thick.
I don’t know, it kind of makes sense. If I were an Angel and a bunch of humans that play baseball were comparing themselves to me, I’d find that rather disrespectful.
How do we draft only pitchers one year and still have no pitching depth?
They first have to on the Dr. El Attrache merry go round!
20 rounds of drafting pitching and we end up with a potential starter ( Silseth ) and Power reliever ( Bachman ) Trade bait for deadline failed trades ( Albright, Marceaux & Bush) and possibly some mediocre bullpen swingmen.
Thats about what to expect. Could still be a better draft than pretty much all of Billy’s the Jedi Drafts the previous 9 years.
We traded a bunch of em around this past deadline.
Giolito + Lopez = Ky Bush
Grichuk + Cron = Jake Madden + Mason Albright
Moose = Connor Van Scoyoc
Escobar = Landon Marceaux + Coleman Crow
Not sure if I missed any others. FWIW, most of these names will be irrelevant — Bush, Madden and Albright have a chance imo.
Madden was 2022. CVC was 2018. Crow was 2019.
The All pitcher draft was 2021.
Yep, I know 🙂.
Answering what happened to some of the overall SP minor league depth
There wasn’t any. The only real pitching prospect remaining ( Kyle Bradish) was traded away by Billy in the Bundy deal.
So Perry inherited a system that was even below critical replacement levels.
We are so far behind pretty much every other organization on pitching I dont know how to fix it.
I didn’t even know Eppler handed Bradish over for essentially nothing. Bradish would’ve been our #1 next year. Although it’s doubtful we would have developed him as successfully as Baltimore.
We probably would have but you realize Bradish is 26 and drafted out of college. it still took the Bards another 3+ seasons after the tradeto get him to this status.
It appears that Minasian considers his pitching prospects as Blue Chip Stamps, and trade them for the same worthless junk you used to get for the stamps (this is an old person reference that GP will know). Although I do like Mous.
S&H Green Stamps were worse, like the .99 store of redemption stamps. Luckily not many stores locally participated.
Hey! You’re not supposed to question the Big 20 or the 2021 draft. Perry proved to us that he and the organization were seriously focused on pitching, pitching, pitching. Who said they had to be good?
Feels like they’ve had two days off a week the last month.
Griffin Canning put together a nice 2023 season after missing all of 2022 with a back injury.
127 IP
1.8 WAR
4.32 ERA
1.24 WHIP
139 Ks = 25.9% K%
36 BBs = 6.7% BB%
Digging into the advanced stats, there is some optimism for further improvement.
With continued reps, I see Canning as a solid #3-4 (closer to a #4) in most rotations moving forward.
1. Detmers
3a. Canning
3b. Sandoval
5. Silseth
6. Anderson
In the farm:
Davis Daniel, Sam Bachman(?), Victor Mederos, Brett Kerry, Robinson Pina, Jack Kochanowicz, Bryce Osmond, Caden Dana, Jorge Marcheco
We have no starting pitching depth in the minors. None at all. I knew it was bad, didn’t realize it was this bad.
It is probably in our best interest to trade Ward, Drury and Estevez this off-season for whatever SP prospects we can get.
I doubt Ward has any trade value at this time.
Because of injury, right?
Ward has been steady and productive the last 2 seasons:
2022 = 3.8 WAR in 135 games
2023 = 1.8 WAR in 97 games
That’s a valuable player tbh
Agreed but the injury has complicated things. previous recovery histories are not on his side.
Ward will get you 3-tubs of double-bubble and 1-bag of Bubba Harkins special goo
Trade Trout, less than 300 games played in 4-years. His career needs a boost and he’ll get supercharged elsewhere.
Good Idea Fungo. Why dont you Call up Trout’s agent and let him know. Make sure you tell him what other teams are interested in eating the 7 years $270 million hes got left on his contract.
Mets and Phillies would love to invigorate the Trout Farm. Dodgers and Giants too.
Why do you insist on using 2020 – the shortened season where Trout was 5th in the MVP voting? It actually detracts from your argument, and exposes the cherry-picking and manipulative nature of your statement.
Ok, toss out 2020. Does not make it much prettier. He’s played less than half the games. 237 games played out of 486. Stats, health and contact rates are falling. Speed is dead and no longer willing to stretch out to make a play in the OF. This is what I see, nothing exposed.
Problem is, all of our pitchers (sans Ohtani) are solid #3-4 pitchers and have been for 10 years.
Do the Angles go with a 6 man rotation sans Shohei?
Interesting questions abound.
That is an interesting Angle.
Damn, we just can’t lose today 😃 , well there is always tomorrow.
New Rules Dept. Length of games from 2021 season to 2023 season, cut by 30 minutes.
I like this change of using the pitch clock, but one other that I like also was getting rid of the shift, especially to LH batters.
Still, I dislike the Ghost Runner in Extra’s and the larger bases.
Go figure. More runners picked at First Base with limiting the tosses for pitchers to two.
Angels were one of the first teams to employ having the Catcher throwing down to first to catch a runner sleeping and there for keeping them close to the Bag at first. How ’bout that!
Darned straight! Jeff Mathis made sure NOBODY stole first base.
And young phenom Logan O’Hoppe has carried on the TrAdition.
Of course it almost got our best young pitching prospect killed.
Easy pickin’s for 2023 season. NL MVP-Ronald Acuna from the Atlanta Braves 😍 and in the AL-Shohei Ohtani from the Los Angeles Angels. 😇
WHAT! NO MORE LOUPY, WHAA 😭 . Tough 3 game series with a team that is too easy to beat, and we will have to forgo our ace in the hole for games lost. 😱
Trivia; Which Angels pitcher had the first Blown Save in 2023. Why Aaron Loup in game one of 2023. Now you talk about having pictures, how did he survive the whole season on our roster – pictures is the only answer, because it sure the Hell was not talent.
After clinching a playoff appearance, Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh when asked to describe the 2023 Phillies:
“PEACE LOVE ROJAS”
I do miss Captain Caveman…..
Jo misses the Captain too.
With or without you
With or without you, ah, ah
I can’t live
With or without you
My hands are tied
My body bruised, he got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose
