As if it couldn’t get any worse, Shohei Ohtani might have gotten a leg injury. Here is the speculation about where Lucas Giolito goes.
Trey Mancini just got released by the Reds five days after he signed a minor league deal with them. It looks like they just didn’t have room for him. Luis Cessa just got released by the Nationals. The Yankees released Spencer Howard. Josh Donaldson also got released. Adam Kolarek just elected free agency.
Kole Calhoun homers for the Guardians to win one in extras. Alex Cobb came very close to a no hitter, but it slipped away from him in the ninth inning.
Bryce Harper hit his 300th home run courtesy of Angels pitching.
There is now a complaint about a third underage girl that Wander Franco was involved with down in the Dominican Republic. Some fans rushed onto the field and made contact with Ronald Acuna Jr. They got arrested for that. Between that and the gunfire at Guaranteed Rate Field the MLBPA is now investigating player safety.
Bo Bichette just went straight back on the injured list.

Go Rocket City!
When the owner of White Sox, Jerry Reinsdorf, was asked if he would sell the team:
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/08/reinsdorf-no-intention-to-sell-white-sox.html
“I’m going to couch this so nobody writes that I thought of selling. Friends of mine have said: ‘Why don’t you sell? Why don’t you get out?’ My answer always has been: ‘I like what I’m doing, as bad as it is, and what else would I do?’ I’m a boring guy. I don’t play golf. I don’t play bridge. And I want to make it better before I go.”
This was the first public comment (SoxBruinsSaints) to this article.
That is what is scary about these elderly billionaires. Theyre too old to have some kind of look-in-the-mirror epiphany that they’re part of the problem AND they have nothing else to do with this money so they’ll hold the teams hostage.
Nice to see that people are finally talking about moving forward instead of the full on garbage show that was this season. My one concern is, if Arte is still the owner when next season starts….. I don’t see much changing. Anyway, one can always hope.
Not trading Shohei was psychopathic imo. But that says a lot about where the dreamer owner is always coming from.
Correction- impulsive owner
Kyren Paris in 2023 at AA:
.255 BA
.393 OBP
.417 SLG
.810 OPS
14 HR
23 doubles
44 SB
29.4 K %
17.1 BB %
21 year old, which is a -2.6 age difference in AA.
Would love for Turk’s opinion if he sees this. I’m excited.
Since June 29th KP has been even better. batting .299/.450/.451 .901 OPS with 23 SBs in 26 attempts. 43 BB, 55 K’s in 213 PA’s Like most all Angel prospects not named Schanuel, the K’s are way too high but you got to love the speed and the ability to take a walk
I’ll take any hope for next season right now. Can he pitch as well as Escobar?
That 29% strikeout rate is ugly.
Is KP Billy’s last hope of drafting an above average MLB player?
Detmers and Canning?
Adell, Adams, Paris, Kochanowicz, Davis Daniel are left in the farm.
Marsh and Bradish turned out to become studs, albeit not with us lmao.
Sorry I meant to say position player with the Angels.
Adell and Adams are a mess and Im not sure they’ll ever be anything more than below average with their inherent lack of plate discipline. The book has not been written yet completely on Matty Thaiss so theres still hope there. I guess Calabrese or Blakely could still have an epiphany but that looks unlikely with each passing day.
Brandon Marsh is definitely the best position player Billy ever drafted under his Angel Reign but lets O’hope we got something in return even better.
Relative to drafting pitchers Billy seemed to do little better . While Bradish is on top of the leader board, theres still potential that Detmers could surpass him. (or Canning if he doesn’t fall apart) I am intrigued by Daniel if he is healthy . he doesn’t strike out a whole lot of guys at AAA last year but he seems to induce weak contact .Hopefully the Angels brain trust wont screw him up too bad. I have followed all of the hype with Kochanowicz but he seems too through large adjustment period every time the Angels move him up a leve but hes been down right awful at AA and Im not sure he hasn’t plateaued there.
But it’s coupled with a 17% walk rate – which is amazing. And he’s 2.5 years younger than league. The K rate isn’t bad considering those two points.
K’s aren’t optimal, but if the guy walks 10%+ of the time too. It’s tolerable.
See Mike Trout, Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, etc.

Since we’re going with the kids moving forward, why don’t we bring up the Trash Pandas manager and staff to replace Nevin and his staff.
Testify!
At least there is some team in the Angels system that is still capable of reaching 80 wins.
Phil Nevin was a well respected championship winning manager at AAA for the D Backs. Other than being great for player development I’m not sure this really translates well into MLB
Oh no, I’m aware of that. I’m not saying it translates well to MLB level. I’m just glad there’s a functioning team within the dysfunctional Angels system
Bee’s starting lineups announced.
Adams/Fletcher/Padlo/Soto/Okey/Walsh/Oliva/Phillips/Palmeiro.
I estimate that Plummer will be added to 28 man roster tomorrow.
Paris + Plummer and no Adams, seemingly indicates a Rengifo-Moniak-Grichuk OF until further notice.
With Neto still out, I’m curious if we go Paris or Squid at SS.
Cabbage is another possible OF especially if Moniak is still out with his bumpy back.
Yep. I know wins don’t matter a ton at this point, but I’d be surprised if those are the only 4 OF options with an expanded roster.
Time to move on from Velasquez. For the purpose of the tank and seeing what we’ve got, let’s go with the kid.
We all know that. Does Nevin ?
Nope
Great So we now have 4 second basemen, a faux shortstop and no pitchers?. makes perfect sense to me .
doesn’t make much sense to me either tbh. Simply excited to see the Paris call-up
OUI OUI OUI OUI OUI OUI !!!

Awesome. dude was fun to watch in spring.
But can he pitch ?
🤣
The Mighty Trash Panda is happy!
There is no culture on this team and no chemistry. What I have learned through the years is that players build chemistry and camaraderie in the minors and take that with them as they make it to their top professional leagues (added as core players).
The Halos haven’t done that in two decades. 🤔 It is hard to build a team with random players. You need a core that know each other (and play for one another), and then you fill in the pieces.
Everyone got to vent today, well now, that is why a site like this exist. But Spectrum not airing ESPN College Football is just down right un-American.
As long as I get to watch the Badgers on FS1, I am happy.
Luckily, I have the espn+/Hulu/Disney+ bundle, so I am covered. I got it so I could watch as many NHL games as I could handle last season.
This is from New York Post Jon Heyman’s top 9 off season FAs.
https://nypost.com/2023/08/31/top-free-agents-mets-yankees-can-target-in-strong-class/
3. Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Scouts from 10 teams, including the Mets and Yankees, saw a recent scoreless gem.
Most big markets are in for this smallish right-hander, known for poise and athleticism, who is a two-time MVP, but not the Angels, who are concentrating on Ohtani.
Yamamoto is 25, and there’s no draft pick attached –— two pluses.
Hope he stays clear of the Halos. This current management will ruin him.
With all due respect, sir, Sho actually did it to himself. However, he will treat this season as learning experience and will try to do better next season for whoever he decides to play for.
I understand what you are saying. I don’t disagree. I still think the Halos’ management and ownership are so broken that no one will succeed until ownership bows out and allows the GM, etal to do their jobs without any interference. There is an unsuccessful culture right now.
Everyday I seem to find something new about this waiver rule. As it turned out, Jeff Fletcher was not exactly correct in explaining this rule.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/08/braves-adam-kolarek-agree-to-minor-league-deal.html
Now 34, Kolarek has pitched in parts of seven big league seasons. He was a quietly effective lefty specialist early in his career with the Rays and Dodgers. His performance over the past few seasons has been more mixed, as he struggled for Oakland between 2021-22 before this year’s small-sample success. The sidearmer doesn’t throw hard and has struggled mightily against right-handed hitters, but he’s held lefty swingers to a 0.184/0.234/0.250 line in his major league career.
By signing him before September 1, the Braves keep open the possibility of Kolarek factoring into their playoff picture. Players only need to be in an organization by the end of August to be eligible for the postseason. Even players who aren’t on the 40-man roster at the start of September can get onto the playoff roster via application to the league office for an exemption to replace an injured player, which happens a few times each year.
This is why the past many playoff contending teams intentionally leave a seriously injured player on the 40 man roster to swap out later for someone who is in the organization but not on the 40 man. Think Frankie Rodriguez circa 2002
I also frequent an LA Kings blog and they are very strict against posting any potty mouth. I am glad that this place isn’t so strict, since F-bombs are the best way to describe the Halos’ ownership and management.
The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) cricket tournament is underway right now and is always a fun watch. I have Willow on Spectrum and watch most of the tournament every year. It helps me deal with the annual demise of the Halos.
-Tom Lasorda
That’s funny, but “I hate Tommy Lasorda.”
😀
Sho has a lot left in the tank, but I believe we’ve seen his peak
OMG PLEASE, PERRY
“Kyren Paris is not in tonight’s lineup. There’s five open roster spots now to fill, two more when rosters expand.”
https://twitter.com/AngelsWin/status/1697379984866701462?t=OXuWp8JUnhZRwXBuqWxTaQ&s=19
Jeff Fletcher has reported that Davis Daniel is off 60 day IL and on Bee’s roster, so there are now only 4 empty spots left on 40 man roster.
I caught that too. Still, I am cautiously optimistic that Paris will be an Angel come tomorrow 🇫🇷 😇
When the Angels visit Seattle in two weeks, the Mariners may consider second Viva France day now that Angels have Paris. 😉
Marginal prospect but one of the better marginal Angel prospects.
career .381 OBP and .805 OPS in the minors ain’t too shabby for a 21 year old shortstop.
I am more excited for Paris than that of future HOFers, Edgar Quero and Ky Bush.
Trust me, I hope he keeps excelling. 100% could use the talent infusion. That would be good. I think it’s safe to say he will be up tomorrow.
Hell ya !
I *think* Paris is a legit prospect, but he is also an Eppler pick so who knows lol
Yup the game is shifting drastically to toolsy dudes and he qualifies as such
Adell is toolsy !! 😂
Does “toolsy” mean that he strikes out a lot?
It would also be nice if he works out because Neto, while clearly the future SS of the team, seems to be made of glass
The dream outcome is a Neto-Paris middle of the infield from 2025 and beyond.
Neto looks good. Paris TBD
where’s he going to play?
Anaheim
Kinda amazing
Did we just plant garbage 🗑️ on the tanking competition?
They are in 2nd place, chasing the Twins for the division lead, only 5 games out. They have a chance.
That’s precisely Heyman’s point – Location, Location, Location. Or I guess in this case – Division, Division, Division.
Everything (and I do mean everything) the Organization has done this year (or not done) has been focused on keeping Ohtani and attempting to convince him to stay in Anaheim. Want to know why Arte chose or did not choose to do something this season? “Trying to keep Ohtani” is the answer to any of those questions.
I think it was a big mistake to be so uni-focused while running a baseball Organization. Arte has mortgaged the future to try to keep Ohtani. And now Ohtani will most likely be gone. Big mistake.
Jeff Fletcher continues to think that the Dodgers are the #1 destination for Sho, but he still thinks the Angels #2. If you have time to spend 30 minutes, here is his reasoning.
https://twitter.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1697002752692437074
Just can’t see Sho punching us in the nut sack by going to the Dodgers. Even the Mariners would be less of a groin shot.
I’d rank it:
4.Dodgers
5.Padres
If being protected of his privacy by the team is a priority for Sho, then I would reverse #4 and #5. Otherwise, I agree with your ranking. He would not touch the east coast teams with 3.3 meter pole.
For me, it would be:
1) Padres (loved Tony Gwynn and I have always had a soft spot for them since).
2) Giants
3) Seattle
4) Angels
5) Dodgers
I honestly just want to move on and see the kids play. I love Trout, but would understand them trading him to start a youth movement properly.
Padres/San Diego have similar vibes akin to that of Angels/Anaheim compared to Dodgers/Los Angeles. However, the biggest draw for Sho to San Diego would be Yu Darvish, Senpai MLB pitcher that Sho has always respected. It could be analogous to what Eduardo Escobar meant to Rengifo.
I thought we were supposed to hate the Padres as they are owned by an O’Malley Grandson, and O’Malley took advantage of the Beloved Cowboy by holding a gun to his head and forcing him to play in his stadium for 4 seasons.
A team in the same division would be a meatier nut sack pinch
I’d rank it as PLEASE GOD DON’T EXTEND HIM HERE.
BTW, Sho is equal opportunity as far as restricting media access is concerned. It does not matter whether they are American or Japanese.
It is a well known story in Japan when Sho won his first AL MVP in 2021, he was invited to participate as a judge for the most popular annual TV program on New Year’s Eve. The program is composed of the year’s popular musicians to be divided by gender and is a 3 hour singing competition against each other; it is the most watched program (besides sporting events) since 1961, and celebrities are invited to participate as judge and they consider it as national honor.
NHK (equivalent of BBC) started negotiating Sho’s appearance, and Sho promised that he would consider it because his mom (the program has been popular especially amongst older Japanese females) would love Sho be involved. Apparently one of the producers leaked to the media that Sho would take part, and as soon as Sho heard the leak, he immediately declined. He has completely shunned Japanese media since 2021.
Hard to tell. Angels have been operating like this for years.
Since Arturo is a marketing guy, I wonder if he plans to fill the roster with random fans who pay to play or win some kind of contest.
What would be good is to stage the “Squid Games” hosted by our own Lil’ Squid.
Hundreds of cash-strapped fans accept a strange invitation from an unknown benefactor (Moreno) to compete in stick ball. Inside the stadium, a tempting prize awaits….
we would demolish the players.
With my delusional hyperbole, I can see Dr. Attache Case to harvest certain DNA matched ligaments for Sho and average sized brain matter for Hee-Fo from slain Angels player.
As a marketing guy I take offense to Arte being called such. He was a billboard man. Very different and non strategic.
I are so out raged
I laugh. Why? you must ask me.
This organization is a joke.
I would have done things totally different.
Don’t ask me about that.
Why do you love Arte?
Back in my day fundamentals.
I don’t know anything for sure.
But I am sure I know many things.
Let me tell you who is stupid.
Wait, you want ideas from me?
Where is your pitchfork?
Stop asking me for thoughts while my mouth is sad.
You always excuse terrible atrocities.
Bad outcome. Can’t handle. Itching rash.
Please point my angry inch toward someone to blame.
I am longsuffering.
Thus I must always tell you about how longsuffering I am.
Listen to my level head speak of conspiracies.
Nod yes to me or you are not real baseball mans.
Everything will be so different and I will be happy someday.
I’m not a piece of shit.
It’s semi-random sports outcomes and the sports men who made me this way.
I hold onto every negative detail about my team like it’s a lock of my dead lover’s hair.
Not because I’m a poisonous twat, but because I love my team TOO MUCH.
Need new POBO who is different than a GM, but also new GM, and a new, new, new manager… and all new coaches…. and I know nothing about them but I’m sure we need new chefs and trainers too. I ache for new. New will be good.
We traded the prospects we can’t develop and I am always angry!
OG’s Pizza sucks.
Ohhhhhhh Tahhhhh Neeeeee….. he’s never going to Red Lobster with me now.
My manuterus hurts.
No team has ever failed like this accept all the other teams that have failed like this.
I is outraged.
New owner and everything about baseball will be under my control.
This isn’t about me.
It’s about how stupid a bunch of other faker baseball men are compared to me.
Baseball.
Just sayin’.
Is it proper to attribute quotes to a fictional character?
Well, isn’t gitchogritchoffmypettis a fictional character as well?
Yes
i feel so invalidated.
gonna need a tl;dr
BLAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH! UGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!
That’s your tl;dr
I asked chatGPT to help translate what you were trying to say because I couldn’t follow.
I got the below:
“It seems like the person who posted this is expressing their frustration and dissatisfaction with the current state of the Angels Baseball organization and its management. They are using a sarcastic and somewhat disjointed tone to convey their emotions.”
I think the AI gets you, Gitch.
Angels PR TWITTER
Recalled RHP José Marte from Triple-A
RHP Davis Daniel was returned from a rehab assignment, reinstated from the IL and optioned to Triple-A
September will be interesting
Hell ya ! Marte >>>> Herget, Wantz, Ingram etc
The new bridge to our closer
Eff it, he throws 97+ lol. I’m in !!
😆😆😆😆😆
And don’t forget the other horrible possibility.
Some of these guys might pitch well, very well. So well in fact, we will want to keep them for next year……and then we have another 2 or 3 Jimmy Her’regrets to send up and down to AAA and AA for the entire season. No bridge is needed there, just a plane.
Wise told them to try to stay on the yellow line at all times…it moves less.
And don’t worry I’ll come visit you if you have any trouble 😀
Oh My! Looks like the Marte Parte is going to happen!
