Happy Monday! Here is the very weird play between the Dodgers and the Giants that happened over the weekend. The Giants also totally brutalized the Dodgers in another game 15-0.
Former two sport star Deion Sanders may have to have his left foot amputated. He’s already lost a couple of toes.
The Mets activated Pete Alonso from the injured list where he had been due to a fastball hitting him on the wrist. Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck got hit in the face by a liner and had to get stitches.
The Tigers claimed Anthony Misiewicz from the Diamondbacks. The Pirates placed left-hander Jose Hernandez on the 15 day IL with a calf strain while the Twins placed Jorge Lopez on the 15 day IL for mental health reasons. The Astros acquired Joel Kuhnel from the Reds.
Former Angels
The Seattle Mariners traded Kean Wong to the White Sox. Packy Naughton is going to Texas to get a second opinion on his injured arm. Season ending surgery is definitely on the table. Alex Cobb just went on the 15 day injured list with a left oblique strain. David Freese declined his election into the Cardinals Hall of Fame.

Kevin Padio is on 40 man roster.
His defense at 3B is almost as bad as Drury’s the last 2 years.
We will be looking forward to tomorrow’s transactions and announcement of starting lineup. Padlo, if he is called up, may end up being like Soto, who didn’t play much and was sent down once Rendon returned.
Not feeling this move at all. Shows how thin the organization is at the hot corner. Not that it will help this year but perhaps the Angels might draft a 3rd baseman. Turks laid out 3 possibilities.
The Kevin Maitian experiment is finally over. Not that it ever took off.
I was always watching what happened to that guy hoping that it would work out. Too bad. Who were the other guys we signed out of that scandal?
Livan Soto.
Cheaters in a freefall. This is the time for the Angels to strike and put the pedal to the metal.
“sweep the leg”
I am loving seeing the Angels not only just even with anyone for WC3 but +1 over the Skanks and +1.5 over the Cheatin’ Cheaters.
We need to build on that … Houston will be back to playing well.. You can count on that …
Verlander pitches against his former teammates tonight in Houston..,
Should be interesting…
The new 3B is a horn dog.

Also, looking at his (very not current) twitter, found out he’s a bit of a local boy from ::pukes:: Murrieta. He had this image on his twitter from almost ten years ago to the day (a game they beat the M’s 11-3.
https://twitter.com/KevinPadlo/status/346817023600377858?s=20
Aw, damnit… he’s also a mega MAGAer.
Alas.
Well if he’s really good at receiving hot smashes I like this move way better than putting RengiBlows down at the hot corner.
Toronto lost…cheaters losing.
Cheaters lose and they’re out.
Marlins, the only team who swept Angels this season, demolished Berrios and Blue Jays 11-0, using bullpen day for their pitchers. I remember Marlins used similar strategy against us. They are now 9 games above 0.500, and firmly WC1 in NL.
So impressed by the Marlins. Doing this without Chisolm and this guy Arraez is the real deal. Giving up Pablo Lopez I thought was risky but what a hitting machine. If Alcantara can regain his Cy Young form, look out.
MARLINS PAYROLL TOTALS
ANGELS PAYROLL TOTALS
I am impressed that they have about the same win loss record that Angels have even thought they are playing in National League, who I think are generally worse than American League this year.
Agree with you that they are a contender for play off spot, and they might become this year’s 2022 Phillies.
DIVISION RIVAL BRAVES PAYROLL TOTALS
$203,000,000
DIVISION RIVAL PHILLIES PAYROLL TOTALS
$244,000,000
DIVISION RIVAL METS PAYROLL TOTALS
$359,000,000
Even more impressive.
for those who are into this, Toronto has lost, Houston is down 6-0 now in the 6th. Texas is winning, Boston, not out of it at all, is winning
You beat me by 10 seconds.
I hate those cheaters
I am not saying anything about White Sox vs Texas.
Like I said, I am not saying anything about Texas bullpen.
best not to
Is this an indirect way of expressing his desire to be traded to the Angels? I also hear that he respects Trout. BTW, it is getting less profitable to bet on Shohei for AL MVP.

Stroman would be a good get…if we don’t give up too much.
Under contract for this year and next at $25 million per year.
I believe that he has player option of $20MM for next season.
You are correct.

maybe Maitan for Stroman. Oh…too late!
Would love Stroman.
Throw him in Toronto vs the Jays when we play up there……
Herget has been DFA’d…
by the Reds.
Free Kevin Herget!
Post Father’s Day question? Are there more kids from past MLBers playing in today’s game than did years ago? Don’t remember seeing this many father-son clusters. Seems like they are also from fathers that were really good players. And their sons also could be really good. To GA to look it up, research it, or write a book about it.
Boonie, his son Boonie, his son Boonie. A few Bells.
I think it’s possible (I’m also too GA to look it up) that as we get older we recognize the names and the lineage whereas when we’re younger those old-timers (the dads) were before our time and not worth noticing.
Ken Griffey Jr with his father Sr, who missed batting average title by sitting out his last game as Reds in 1976 (though he entered later and went 0-2 and lost the title to Bill Madlock.) Sr did not do much after being traded to Yankees and became somewhat well known for playing together with his son as Mariners for one and a half season. First father son combo to play in MLB game and only combo to hit a homerun in the same MLB game thus far. Guess who they hit against?
Patrick Mahomes II is a son of MLB journey man who played for 6 MLB teams and Yokohama Bay Stars, where Trevor Bauer currently pitches. I wonder if Mahomes II could play 3B for us.
Patrick Mahomes doesn’t count, plays in the NFL and he’s an Alien.
Gotta give it to the Alien who has fantastic side arm motion with football that only decent baseball player knows how. Another one is Russell Wilson, who must have been an amazing 2nd baseman and pitcher. I also remember that John Elway got drafted by Yankees before he decided to become a Bronco after using the baseball draft as means to avoid becoming a Colt.
I mean look at the Blue Jays, them alone has Guerrero, Bichette, Biggio. Witt in KC…..here is a list
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_second-generation_Major_League_Baseball_players
What does GA mean?
I tried to look it up, but couldn’t find anything. Guess I am also too GA to try any harder (whatever that means)
GA stands for Garrett Anderson. We used to accuse him of being lazy (going after fly balls).
ONE T!!!!!
Shes too GA to fix it.
I’m too late to fix it 🤷🏼♀️
I’ve noticed this more as well. There was always the Griffeys Bonds but noticing it more now and in other sports too. A lot of up and coming basketball players are players sons, Gilbert Arenas LeBron a lot I can’t think of now but a lot and then I mean the splash bros Steph and Klay to start. Used to be if pro players son said won’t make it, too much pressure can never be like the dad. At best play they play at small school in college like Jordan’s kids. Now I’m noticing a lot of former pros sons. Idk what changed.
Sons (and daughters) are clearly rewarded with inheriting athletic DNAs and probably receive favorable reviews by baseball scouts if they decide to pursue the same path their famous fathers trailblazed. As long as they can avoid ‘affluentitis’ that John McEnroe thought that his kids had, they are more likely to succeed than average Joe.
That is the reason why I recommend to Shohei this DNA match up with this specimen, aka Alica Schmidt, Olympic caliber track star. I consider this as his obligation to Baseball God:
Matt Birch – 22h
This week, #Angels Shohei Ohtani became the first player since 1957 with 2+ doubles, 6+ HR and 10+ BB in a seven game span
Two players did it in the 1957 season:
Ted Williams & Mickey Mantle
He also had a pitching win with a quality start at Texas (highest scoring team in MLB)
What was the scorebook on that botched play? E5 5-3-what?
5-1-9-6-2-5
with an E5
nyuk, nyuk, nyuk…
The 3 Stooges?
Why, you…..
8-6-7-5-3-0-9 Jenny
Is arte playing position “0”?
Nevin
You got to it first! I didn’t see yours when I posted mine 😂
Soggy Joe used that line up once. I believe it went 867530924
8-6-7-5-3-0-9
E5-E1-9-6-3-2-1, with very poor base running by Doyers. I watched that play in real time. Nuts!
There is yet another reason why Shohei would stay in Anaheim for at least another 5 years: Simple math 28x(6+5)/6>48

Reyes, Silseth, Wantz, and Weiss. Four pitchers currently in the minors on the 40-man roster.
Dump one of them ASAP and bring up Fletcher.
Don’t think we are ready to place Silseth on waivers. No strong comment on the other 3.
Definitely keep Silseth on the 40 man.
None of this is necessary to bring up Fletcher – one could just move Suarez to the 60-day IL.
Or Urshela. But maybe they believe he’ll heal faster than 8 weeks.
Lots of calcium, vitamin D and superglue, not necessarily in that order?
I understand Rendon is registering as a 501(c) (3) entity so that Arte can write off his salary as a charitable donation…because he certainly isn’t playing baseball to earn his $37m annual salary
Just thinking out loud here but I wonder if Rendon is headed to the IL
😆
According to the FreeDictionary by Farlex:
IL also refers to
Ignore List,
Insertion Loss (Viagra recommended, likely due to excessive bangings of Slump Buster)
Intact Loop (Isn’t that a contradiction?)
Infralimbic Cortex (part of brain implicated in stress responding, mood, and fear memory)
The only “power ranking” that matters is being #1 at the end of October.
Rendon can’t catch a break, geez.
I presume that we’ll muddle thru with Rengifo at 3rd for the next 7-10 days. I think Fletcher can play a bit of 3rd in a pinch.
Agree, end of October. Power rankings are like the beer variety in my refrigerator, based on ABV, never know what the wife (damn I love her) will bring home and the firing order shuffles around quite often. Currently: 1. Poor Man’s Double IPA (Pizza Port), 2. Manta Ray (Ballast Point) and 3. Fear Movie Lions (FML) (Stone)…
I miss Pizza Port so much!
You do mean Pizza Port in Morro Bay, CA? 😎
Pizza Port Morro Bay – Pizza Port
I’ve been to the one in Solana Beach (back in … oh, must have been late ’90s or so).
Carlsbad and San Clemente. I live near Cooperstown now.
I’ve been like Sam Adams again lately. Also Red Trolley, an OC beer I believe. To be clear, I’ve been cutting way back as I’m working out harder, etc. Trying to jump start myself from a state of apathy.
Rendon back on the IL, where he belongs.
So basically, David Freese turned down induction into the Cardinals Hall of Fame because he think that there are more worthy candidates who played for the team before him? If anyone else read that article, is that what you got out of it? (if so, pretty classy).
Yep, and I thought the same: class act.
David had some demons. I think this is more to the heart of the reason.
I thought that there were more unstated reasons that the story never brought out. I have now read more about David. I think the Cardinal fans are really appreciative of what he did in 2011 (the 2011 playoff and World Series in particular).
The Mariners signed both Kolton Wong and Keon Wong to contracts in 2023. By the trade of Keon to the Chi-Sox, looks like Jedi is admitting that two Wongs do not make a right.
Happy belated Daddy’s Joke Day!
Glass man Rendone back on IL. What’s new?
Sucks it came at a time when Urshela went down
Really, who cares?
We should, because Gio is also on the IL.
But he only goes on the IL during the months between April to October, inclusive. But intermittently, I have seen him take the field in short stints.
