Grumble “But Angels Seesaw In A Good Way” Postgame

Today we had Tyler Anderson going up against Hayden Wesneski. The Cubs went three up three down in the first inning. The Angels also didn’t score, although Mike Trout did draw a walk. I doubt if I will be able to find that “highlight” for you. It happened, though.

In the second: Seiya Suzuki singled. Yan Gomes doubled. Michael Tauchman singled to score Yan Gomes and Seiya Suzuki. 2-0 Cubs. Patrick Wisdom walked. Matt Mervis doubled on a cutter that didn’t cut. 4-0 Cubs and a man on second with one out. A Nico Hoerner fly out helped a little bit. The Angels got Dansby Swanson out despite themselves to put an end to the top of the second inning. Thaiss and Drury then both struck out. At least Urshela didn’t strike out. He managed to hit a fly ball out to right.

In the top of the third inning, Anderson issued a five pitch walk to Ian Haploid to start things off. After a couple of outs, Anderson walked Miguel Amaya. At least Michael Tauchman grounded a ball to Rengifo for a force out to end the Cubs part of the inning. The Angels went three up three down. Grrr!

In the top of the fourth inning Tyler Anderson managed to get a strikeout. The pitch wasn’t really a strike but whatever. Matt Mervis also struck out. Nico Hoerner did single but Dansby Swanson struck out to end the Cubs half of this inning. Shohei Ohtani came up and homered. 4-1 Cubs. Several other Angel outs made sure there was no other scoring. Typical.

Shohei’s homer

Two strikeouts and a fly ball out brought the Angels back up to bat for the fifth inning. Gio Urshela did make a cool throw.

Brandon Drury doubled and Gio Urshela was hit by a pitch. Mickey Moniak lined out. Luis Rengifo reached on a fielder’s choice. Nobody was out, though, thanks to a fielding error by first baseman Matt Mervis. A wild pitch scored Brandon Drury. 4-2 Cubs.

Brandon Hughes came in to replace Hayden Wesneski on the mound. They decided to pitch to Shohei Ohtani. They pitched him carefully and they walked him. Mike Trout came up and singled to center to score both Rengifo and Urshela. 4-4 tie.

Anthony Rendon walked. Matt Thaiss singled to center deflected by the shortstop and both Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout scored. 6-4 Angels.

Brandon Drury struck out to end the threat.

In the top of the sixth inning, Jose Soriano replaced Tyler Anderson. Jared Walsh entered the game and Anthony Rendon exited. Miguel Amaya was hit by a pitch. Michael Tauchman struck out. Patrick Wisdom grounded into a force out and Matt Mervis lined out to right. The Angels turned around and went three up three down to bring the Cubs right back up again.

In the top of the seventh inning, Jacob Webb came in to replace Jose Soriano. Dansby Swanson got a one out single and the next two guys walked. Phil Nevin brought in Chris Devenski at this point. He got Yan Gomes to line into a double play. Taylor Ward came up and homered to center. 7-4 Angels.

Shohei Ohtani walked. So did Mike Trout. Jared Walsh batted with men at first and second and no outs. He worked a full count and then he also walked. The bases were loaded with no outs for Matt Thaiss. Michael Fulmer came in to replace the ineffective Jeremiah Estrada. Thaiss then struck out. Brandon Drury promptly hit into a double play to end the inning.

In the top of the eighth inning, Devenski struck out Miguel Amaya. He also struck out Mike Tauchman and Patrick Wisdom. Gio Urshela came up and struck out. Mickey Moniak grounded out and Zach Neto struck out.

Now we came to the top of the ninth inning. Carlos Estevez came in to close. Matt Mervis popped out to short. Nico Hoerner singled to right. Dansby Swanson struck out looking. Ian Happ singled to put men at first and third with two outs. Seiya Suzuki struck out. Angels win 7-4!

Just spinning a few things, maybe Walsh should go down to AAA and hit every day until he gets the feel and timing back. Hard to do that at the ML level. Maybe bring up Adell for a pre-trade showcase.

No problem sending Walsh down, but if Adell is up, where are his AB’s coming from? Does that mean Moniak is back down?

I was thinking about that too. From what I hear Renfroe going on paternity leave soon

Although it would benefit him to get his timing down we need We need his defense especially with Rendon returning.

Didn’t he hit something like .440 on his rehab assignment? Not sure what sending him back would accomplish.

Nice to see the Halos punish a team for giving four or more outs in an inning. God knows they have suffered similar punishment to this point. God teams make you pay for an extra strike, extra batter or extra outs.

I love watching Estevez. Instead of being a total nail biter relief pitcher with guys always on base (i.e. Jepsen), it feels like most of the hits that other teams get off of him are lucky. Kinda reminds me of Frieri when he first came up.

Shohei’s triple HR and that stupid line on the wall.

So tonight gotta leave that 1 for 5 upon the shelf
And just enjoy yourself
C’mon and groove (yeah) and let the madness in the triple get to you

It’s fun to win and at home too boot. Pen looked super again, just awesome. Nevin is bringing in defensive players in late innings, novel idea, smfh, and my happiness for the night, top of the charts.

Caution to those equating the teams and wins to trains. Last year we brought in the “Win Train” with theme song, O’Jays Love Train made into the Win Train and soon it derailed, and I vowed not to do it again until we got to a point that we make it to the Playoffs.

Everyday we are staying even or sinking in the Wild Card race, so until we go on a roll or start beating the good teams, I’m very unimpressed with our lack of gaining. We look very much what we are, improved team true, but .500 none the less. We have to go the next 45 days or so and get back in the top 3 PO teams or trade Shohei for the future.

Rendon is needed in the line up, at least 4 games a week. He makes the team a winner, but we need defense and Gio maybe mush better option. Walsh needs to play more also. Neato should play everyday, he has not played in a 162 G schedule before, so give him a day off as requested. Time to switch out Rengifo for Fletcher soon, we need the late game defense at 2B.

We have more and better talent on this team, but if this talent does not play much better PTP will have to make decisions that are tough but needed.

Here is to going on a roll. 🍺

I suffered premature ejaculation on Fletch report that he was taken out in the fifth inning. At first, there was no report of injury, so I thought he was heading for Big A, but later communication indicated hamstring injury.

One thing I noticed that Cubs made many miscues: the sharply hit grounder by Rengifo to 1B could have ended our opportunity, but the first baseman bubbled it and the end result was bases loaded. Then, wild pitch/passed ball occurred and ricochet right back to the catcher, who could have tagged Drury from 3rd, but bubbled the ball, allowing Drury to score. Houston would not have made those mistakes. I’m glad that Angles came back to win this game, but if Houston spotted 4 runs early like today, Angels would have lost.

It looks like Rengifo will hang with us a little longer, and since Moniak is coming down to earth, and Neto still at 0.237 batting average, we may see Rengifo as starting SS (or RF) few more times.

We still don’t have a dependable leadoff hitter. This year’s version of Ward is not ideal for lead off. Was really hoping that Moniak would be that ideal lead off, but he might be rapidly regressing to the mean. He has appeared in 14 games, 10 of them being whole game. He struck out 17 times while earning only 1 walk. He needs to be patient, not swing for homerun, and if possible, take pitches to earn more walks.

Yeah, they made a lot of miscues, but you gotta take advantage of them. And we did.

Would Rendone have made the play that Urshela did at 3rd base? Maybe/probably, but we know one thing: Urshela did!

With speculation that Fletch may be called up, who is going down? Rengifo or Drury? I did hear that Renfroe may be on paternity leave, but he will be back eventually, so the question will linger on.

Another possibility is Jo Adell may be called up to replace Renfroe while the latter is on paternity leave. All kinds of conjecture out there now.

Wow, that is too bad. Then, we will probably see Jo Adell to replace Renfroe when he goes on paternity leave to recite words of Lamaze childbirth education to his wife.

LTBU !!!!! 😇😇😇🥰🥰🥰

I’ll focus on the bullpen:

Estevez
Moore
Devinski
Soriano
Joyce
Webb
Bachman

Only a matter of time until Loup is replaced with Reyes, Yovan, Ingram, Wantz, etc.

Gotta give it to Ohtani and Trout for getting 2 walks each tonight. Also 4 runs from 2 out singles. But we managed to strike out 10 times, sigh!
