Red Light-Green Light Postgame

We started this one with Tyler Anderson versus Cy Rookie aka Logan Allen.

The Angels didn’t really do much in the first two innings while the Guardians scored one in each of the first two on sacrifice flies. The Angels got onto the board in the fourth inning. Anthony Rendon doubled and Brandon Drury singled to make in 2-1 Guardians.

Gio Urshela then doubled scoring Brandon Drury on a play at the plate that the Angels had to challenge.

Matt Thaiss walked and Zach Neto singled to score Gio Urshela.

In the fifth inning, the Angels loaded the bases with no outs and failed to score. The Guardians worked a walk, a single, a fly ball out, and a force out to produce a run. 3-3 tie. In the seventh inning both Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani drew walks with no outs and the Angels failed to score either of them. The Guardians also didn’t score.

In the eighth inning Matt Thaiss singled and Zach Neto doubled. The third base coach had some kind of mental vapor lock and Matt Thaiss was waved around. He was a dead duck at the plate. Here is the lowlight for your post mortem examination.

Taylor Ward made the third out. It was still 3-3. Well, at least it was 3-3 until Matt Moore coughed up a solo homer to Josh Naylor. 4-3 Guardians. He then gave Andres Gimenez a triple. He did manage to finish the inning with no further scoring.

In the top of the ninth inning Mike Trout doubled on a 101 MPH cut fastball. I guess he’s not done yet.

Shohei Ohtani struck out on a slider. Anthony Rendon hit a base hit advancing Trout to third. Hunter Renfroe hit a ball to the second baseman who threw wide to home allowing Mike Trout to score one to tie it up. There were men at first and third with one out. Brandon Drury hit a sacrifice fly to score pinch runner Brett Phillips from third. 5-4 Angels.

So yeah. The Angels won this one 5-4. Light that baby up!

Oh, Moniak was called up today (Lamb optioned). Interesting.

With Ward struggling + the occasional off say for TroutFroe, Moniak has a legitimate opportunity….

Fletcher write about this yesterday The Angels have 13 straight games against RHPs so they felt they needed a viable left hander off the bench . He’s in the lineup today ( probably a scheduled off day for Trout ) this was the rolr that Walshie would play if he was healthy since he can play effectively in the outfield

24 year old with 10.98 ERA at AA. Sure why not?

But Maybe we can do a Percy reversy and turn him into an All Star catcher. God knows we need more catchers right now.

He’s probably got the fire this team needs to punch itself in the nuts and kick it into overdrive, never giving up, always standing up for itself and demanding the heart of a champion till you take it to the limit and to the edge where you go over the top and never let go!

And Estevez is good.

4th series in a row where they won the first game of the series. Swept the 1st one, lost the last two series. Better luck/buttercup with this series.

Great AB top 9th by Hunter Renfroe batting against Clase and not succumbing to the K and avoided hanging up a second out with Trout on 3rd.

And ain’t it wonderful on both counts?

High priced FA that’s been injured for two years and a prospect that had a solid hitting profile that hadn’t produced much.

Stassi being out has been the ultimate silver lining.

I’ll repeat what I said in the game thread re: Trout vs. the fastball – I think it’s an exaggerated narrative. As far as I can tell, he’s missing more breaking pitches in the lower third of the zone where he historically feasted.

I thought it was a mediocre signing initially, but he’s been excellent thus far.

Hopefully we don’t flip out too much when he eventually blows one.

Did we ink him to a two year deal?

Yep. 6.75M this year and next year for Mr Sheen.

He’s almost down to a sub 1.00 ERA and has a .900 WHIP…. so yah, he’s not gonna be this good forever unless he’s gonna have an “all-time” closer season.

Even with a regression towards the mean, this is a very cost efficient signing.

We are 6-4 for May so far. Just get through May 14 and 14 and I’ll be happy. Anything better than that is happy+. This month and July. Those are the one’s that look tough. Get through both of those around .500 we should have a shot at flopping into positive/wild card territory.

Just no big prolapses please.

May is the key to this season on so many levels.

I trend towards the positive (because what’s the point in being negative re: sports when life is so…. you know) but I’m expecting better than .500 ball moving forward.

Injury caveat aside, this is a fringe playoff team and if we add a piece or two at the deadline…. I likely.

That’s only because you’re not a cranky old fart, who, when games came over by wire, the play-by-play guy didn’t have to pimp a home run, or a managerial decision like it just walked off a World Series win.

Just to get us to look up from our black, rotary phones 😉

The dude has some Hollywood cred. His ma, pops, ex-wife and big sis.

But his IMDB page is sadly summarized by this:
He is an actor, known for Wild Hogs (2007), Die Hard 2 (1990) and Bliss (1997).

Cheese-its – nobody and I mean NOBODY wants to go back and watch those things to actually search for his acting ability.

We beat a sub-.500 team. FEEEL SHAAAAME!

Celebrating this win makes me feel dirty and I like it.

Thaiss is like “Nuh uh weird name guy. Not taking my spot!” Go weepy face Matt Thaiss. .327? That’s a big boy BA.

Drury. Drury has yet to stay solid. But I like him cause he seems to “do something” most games even when he is kinda cold. I was actually against signing him, but he’s starting to stuff it in my face. Get hot Drury.

Anderson. Survived another one eh Tyler? Five more days to figure out why you’ve become so hittable and wild. We did beat Cy Rookie. Good sign.

Oh no. Rendon. So useless. Team never win with Rendon. Estevez. Not closer material. Moore. Dumpster scum. Worsty bullpen ever need Ersty. Walsh is coming back soon. He never smiles. You’d think he’d be the Donkey Squad’s most beloved player but alas they are incapable of any love but love of their own complaint. Maybe he and Moniak can tamp down some of these defensive fidgets.

What are we? 21 and 18 now? Are we allowed to enjoy this yet? How about if we win tomorrow, can we smile then? Bah, I’m fairly afraid the Orioles will take their series with us, but we can still have a decent road trip. Win the weekend Angels, let’s start out happy eh? Make May .500 Again.

Hot Shower or the Halos, I choose poorly, I picked hot shower. I had to install a hot water tank today, not complaining as we were without for over 2 weeks (long story) but nevertheless I persevered and between thinking that it wouldn’t take but a couple hours and others additional ailments a welcomes hot shower was much preferred. But I did get a rare treat listening to the radio crew with a radio hanging out the bath window. Trout is still my all-time favorite.
