Postgame- Angels Win 4-3

Reid Detmers started the game today pitching to Chad Wallach. Anthony Rendon rode the pine today with Gio Urshela manning third base in his stead. Detmers gave up a homer to the second batter of the game. He also hit Salvador Perez. The top of the first inning ended with the Royals up 1-0.

Taylor Ward walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Mike Trout hit a ground rule double to left to put men at second and third with no outs. Shohei Ohtani hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-1 Angels.

Nothing much happened until the top of the fourth inning when Reid Detmers loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. He got Kyle Isbel to fly out to Mike Trout to end the threat.

Vinnie Pasquantino homered in the top of the sixth inning. 2-1 Royals. Taylor Ward answered with a homer to tie the game.

Mike Trout then homered to put the Angels in front 3-2.

Shohei Ohtani then homered to make it 4-2 Angels.

The Royals did manage to pick up one of those runs in the seventh inning on a Bobby Witt Jr. Home run. which brought us to the final score 4-3 Angels.

WOW. Marsh is raking. I knew he was doing well but he has 4 triples to go along with his 4 HR and is batting over .360 and has an OBP of over .430. He’s on pace for a 10+ WAR season. The law of averages says he will slow down at some point but right now he is arguably top-10 in the game.

I was big on Marsh.

I wonder if he could have done as well with the Angels if we kept him.

Or, if it’s a sign that the Halos just don’t know how to develop talent,

Not sure which is the case.

I am happy with O’Hoppe, though.

He looks to be a great young prospect….

Hindsight is always 20/20, but Marsh and Quero would not have been a bad combo.

Philly helped him a ton in fixing his swing and approach. I would’ve wanted someone to takeover from Trout, but it is what it is. Keep in the mind, at the time it was considered an overpay by Philadelphia, but since their defense in the outfield was so bad, Marsh was an immediate upgrade.

“The law of averages.” Yes. There is no way Marsh is anywhere near this good. Talk to me on June 15th or 20th and see where his numbers are.

Yeah – the O’Hoppe thing is really eating at me. No shoulder injuries ever in his career and he finally gets the regular job and this happens around 60 ABs in. It’s pretty depressing and is eating at me. But, such is life as a fan of this team.

Again, the Angels medical and S & C staff come into the spotlight. The long series of misdiagnosing and under-reporting just create a bad, bad look. You wonder when the next unexpected Troutani injury pops up and we discover one or the other will be missing 2-3 months…

Going BtoBtoB only to lose would have been a perfect Tungsten moment, and not scoring in the bottom of the 8th really made me anxious. but thank god they held onto that one run lead.

Hopefully Detmers continues to keep his 2022 second-half self and stabilize the rotation and Ward, Shohei get back some momentum.

My Lylein’ eyes thought he wasn’t as good as his line. With the exception of two bloop hits he gave up, the rest of the contact was hard. And he was bailed out of trouble at least twice by some good D, including Trout’s exceptional DP throw.

Perry’s Rocket City pitchers have all struggled as of late mostly with Control. Bachman was not taking care of business when he couldn’t get out of the second inning yesterday after 4 walks 2 HBPs and a Grand Slam. The normally reliable Kolton Ingram gave up 4 walks and 2 wild pitches yesterday trying to finish out the 2nd game of the double header. Ben Joyce had more trouble today walking 2 while throwing 2 wild pitches.

I Guess the players have noticed and apparently MLB may be to blame for this:

https://twitter.com/TaylorBlakeWard/status/1650178620936318977

So how are the Angel minor leaguers going to develop if Salt Lake is too close to the Sun and Rocket City is now part of some big Manfraud experimental laboratory? Should we just have them play each other at the Arizona complex until Perry gets an itchy finger for another call up?

Hah, that’s funny. I was reading your comment, about 1/2 way through i was like “Sounds like when you get a pile of crap balls with low seems or something” and then I saw the rest of your comment. I can remember a couple times I had issues with my balls and nothing worked right. when you see a whole pile of pitchers in the same game do it…. balls.

As someone else said, Mike Trout doing Mike Trout things is good for the soul.

I was worried that father time was calling, but he will need to come calling another day.

Let’s SWEEP this next series.

Calmate amigo. It’s OK to want to sweep the next series. I want that. Hell, it’s OK to declare that WE WILL sweep the A’ss I guess. It’s just lame to declare we’ll do something that is actually unlikely, like sweep a 4 game series, and then get pissed off when we don’t. Or declare the sweep a “must win”…. why? when we can totally not sweep and behold, more season awaits?

But hell yeah. SWEEP BABY! I’ll enjoy that if it happens. Hell, let’s sweep the Rangers too. I’m down.

Here’s the thing. All fans here who predict sweeps do the same thing. There is a pattern. And no surprise, it never works. Every time a sweep is predicted the Angels of course lose a game or more to said “bad” team.

Here is how it happens; the Angels have probably been floundering for a week or two, THEN they get a somewhat surprising or at least refreshing win. Shortly afterwards somebody or even a few people will predict a sweep, especially if the upcoming opponent is a so-called “bad” team. It is funny, but those people NEVER predict a sweep after the Angels have lost a game. If they did I would probably celebrate just because they were bold enough to do something that just isn’t done… But they always predict a sweep coming off a win, just letting themselves fantasize and get carried away with their dopamine stimulated good-feeling.

These single wins embolden the fanbase, and feeling giddy they in their short-sighted and typically overconfident way say “The Angels will SWEEP team X…” That is the pattern. Very often it is Grandpa putting the kibosh on the Angels, however, in his defense he has not been doing it as much recently. But not to fear, other intrepid, short-sighted Members will stupidly go on predicting sweeps of “bad” teams, not really understanding Major League Baseball and how difficult it is to win a single game, let alone sweep a series.

Besides, what have the Angels done recently to give any indication they are going to sweep anybody ?.

I prefer adhering to the old adage of “Take em’ one game at a time.” After all, you can only win one game at once, not a handful of them.

That back-to-back-to-back was a thing of beauty. The whole stadium went nuts.

I give credit to Miss UCSB. She got up to go get some food, and bam! B2B2B. I told her she had to do it again the next inning, but she didn’t.

Yes, we won, but was it a good win? It was by one run, so….. good? But against a bad team so…. don’t count it? No Loup or Rendon today. Happy? No? Three HR in a row? Pretty lucky. Nevin still exists. Was this win a positive or a negative? I need some donkey to come tell me.

We’re .500 again. oh no. We need to amp up the doom donkey vibe. I’m curious which player our collective bad JuJu can land on and crush next. Cause Upton, Rendon, Loup, Tepera, Canning, Cozart, Richards, Iglesias, Walsh, Adell, Stassi, Fletcher, Trout, O’Hoppe…. over the last few years that’s fine I guess but I think our black wank magic can do so much more. We should be able to at least finish off Drury and Anderson in addition to O’Hoppe this year. That should show Arte!

I’ll take a high on base guy to complement the lineup, regardless of the power. If he gets on base at a 350 clip I don’t really care if he hits 10 homers a year.

Perhaps, bit I’m guessing that pitchers would go after him at the next level. Think Fletcher.

I don’t understand what you’re getting at. Fletcher didn’t have the OBP of Stefanic in the minors, and Fletcher was very successful in his first three seasons.

He just means Stephanic will walk less because MLB pitchers will throw more strikes to him because he hits like a wuss.

What I have observed is that in those situations, the batters are too overanxious. They swing at everything. Their “l just have to make contact” mindset is a failure waiting to happen.

It’s a simple game…throw the ball, hit the ball, catch the ball.
