Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is suspended for 5 games following his interaction with a fan in Oakland last week. No word yet on whether he will appeal the suspension.
If Rendon accepts the suspension he will miss all three games in Seattle as well as the Angels home opener and the following game against the Toronto Blue Jays. It is important to note that Rendon banged up his knee this weekend and might need a few days out to recuperate.
We will add updates if/when they come out.
UPDATE: Rendon is appealing the suspension and in tonight’s lineup playing third base and batting cleanup.
Could have been worse if he had hit the kid, but we really don’t know if we will miss him yet. I believe he got a fair shake. Argument could be made that he missed yesterday as punishment and he returns ‘Our Opening Day”, we’ll see.
I would not characterize that fat jerk as a “kid” by any stretch of the imagination.
Yeah, that was an old ass kid.
OK, sure.
Free Anthony Rendon!
I guessing he’s already injured to the point he would be missing time anyway, so the suspension was actually handy for him. Of course, it costs us a roster space, but it’s not much of a loss because it’s him, and this year we’ve got actual major leaguers available to replace him.
He was in the lineup tonight before reaching a settlement and accepting the four game suspension. So he’s able to play.
So it was a 5 game suspension and was reduced to 4 games? Is that correct?
Yeah. It was 5, he appealed, and then apparently the MLBPA quickly negotiated a reduction to 4 which Rendon then accepted without appeal.
4 Games
Will miss the Seattle series and Home Opener.
Well, he’s not missing the whole series.
He’s in the lineup tonight playing 3B and batting 4th.
not now, I guess. Urshela at 3b
Starts suspension today
I would prefer he would just man up and take the suspension and move on, given how light it was. Appealing actually makes him look like a bitch.
Why ? I want to sink those Seamen
Most suspensions get appealed, it’s already been settled.
Let’s chill a bit.
Most suspensions aren’t for grabbing a fan in the stands though. I just felt in this particular case it would have been a nice sign of maturity/ownership to say “yeah I messed up, I’ll see you in 5 games”
Glad to see he took the 4 and is moving on though.
Sounds like he apologized to the guy, and next time he’s in front of the media maybe he’ll address it to the fans.
That’s good, I hadn’t heard that. It will be interesting to see if he talks about it now that the matter is settled.
He should get a bonus for actually finding an A’s fan!
…and that’s a thumbs up!
Actually, had you said and unarmed A’s fan I would’ve bolded my response.
Not bad!
More fans can get it.
Well, could’ve been harsher, but no contact, churn the page.
My take:
Seems about right, perhaps a bit light. Yes the fan was the type of drunken a-hole most of us hope to avoid at the ballpark, but you can’t lay your hands on paying customers.
It feels like such a bitch move to sic security on a guy instead of handling it yourself. I get that. But at the end of the day, Rendon is the one with something to lose.
Hopefully the fan is banned, but maybe being forced to spend time in that stadium watching that team is even worse.
Yeah that is a bit light. I expected double digits
I said 7-10 so yeah, light
Is getting banned from that Oakland stadium a punishment or a reward? 😀
A play on the old bit: Radio contest, 1st prize is 2 tickets to an A’s game, 2nd prize is 4 tickets…
What a bitch. 🤣
The guy in the stands, cetainly.
For sure. Zero chance that dude calls anyone a bitch to their face; especially not a pro athlete.
I hate the fake tough guys as much or more than anybody. But you can’t lay hands on a paying customer.
True, there are worst fans than the worst American fans, trust me.
The one exception of course would be in self-defense if he pushes you or swings on you. Then all bets are off… There are of course gray areas, such as Artest being hit with half a cup of beer. Technically that guy assaulted him, but to run into the stands after him and wail on him in that situation is simply too much…
I think your point really is that you can’t put your hands on paying customers simply because of the words they direct at you.
That MotherF**ker!
