Here is a retrospective of Tim Salmon’s best career moments. The Angels have a $900,000 deal with an international shortstop pending a physical. I don’t think we can expect this kid to help the big club in 2023, but at least Perry is thinking ahead.
The Twins traded Luis Arraez to the Marlins for several players.
Mike Ford is back with the Mariners on a minor league deal. Vladdy Jr. cast mild aspersions on the Yankees. At least he didn’t say it was the Angels. LOL at Kirby Puckett.
Sal Bando passed away from cancer at the age of 78.

The question is…what does Ohtani think about this?
I am praying that Arte found the investor(s) he needed to land Shohei’s 10 year deal. or not…..or not.
More worried about what Ohtani’s MOM thinks about it.
Arte is no longer pursuing a sale of the team.

wow
whoa
Thank goodness it’s open season to hating Arte again!!!
best owner the Angels ever had
“Not ready to part ways with the fans, players, and our employees”
What bullshit is that? All three groups were giddy that he was selling!!
Okay you bastards. The next son of a bitch that buys Angels tickets or merchandise is banished to somehere. (My rage hasn’t caught up with my frontal lobe yet)
It’s gotta be a two-way street – everyone else is ready to part ways with Arte. But he’s not yet ready, and unfortunately, he holds all the power on when the parting ways can be decided.
No.
Lol, sounds like code for we didn’t get our hoped for price
What this means is that Arte was not getting the price he wanted.
too many unresolved lawsuits – no one would touch us
It had to be part of the story
Manfred just said there was serious interest from buyers, so someone was willing.
And they went as far as the potential buyers getting access to financial statements information, so it’s definitely serious and not just exploratory
Need to open up an F bomb thread
We need multiple threads
The Dark lord rises…..
Cocaine Blues
It’s just the ultimate fucking buttercup.
Well, this will certainly make for a very interesting season re: what the Angels will do with their two-way elephant in the room.
I’d expect Arte to try to retain him. The man has billboards to fill.
Fudge……..
Well, time to toot my own horn: https://crashingthepearlygates.com/2022/09/07/la-angels-wednesday-news-crash-top-heavy/#comment-201632
TBH, gitch’s comment is probably the only reason I did decide to mention this.
😂
Can’t wait for Team Sad Sack to chime in! Everybody wins!
Wonder which unlabelled headshots He-Who-Shall-Remain-Nameless will post in response to this?
Maybe you’re actually Arte
Kudos to you @AnAngelsFan. I mean you got it right down to Arte “reconsidered” and will “commit to building a winning team” and wants to continue his unfinished business.
Now if he signs Shohei to a massive extension, I’m going to you for my lottery numbers!
Part of me wonders if Ohtani informed the Angels he isn’t interested in an extension, which caused the Japanese buyers to back out and the offer price to plummet.
where can I put $100k on a wager for this?
If that’s the case, then I expect Perry to get going on the Shohei trade, stat. There’s no point in keeping him through the trade deadline, risking major injury to him, and/or his performance falling off the cliff.
Mark Leiter Jr. cut loose by the Cubs. Might make a decent sixth starter/swingman guy here.
Take a look at his peripherals and compare them to Tucker Davidson’s.
Leiter strikes more guys out, walks fewer, and gives up less hard contact. And he’d be pretty cheap.
I’d make this move and keep him in that role when an injury pops up. That would leave whoever is throwing best in AAA (Canning, Silseth) first up for injury replacement.
MLB Trade rumors suggests Leiter Jr. will have to settle for a minor league deal and will be looking for a team that provides the best chance to get back to the MLB.
If true, the Angels should at least be in the running to have him in camp in the Spring, because there is definitely a chance he could make the MLB roster over Davidson.
Wasn’t there a Leiter guy that is a super prospect that Texas signed or something?
How many of these Leiters are there running around baseball?
That might be an idea for someone who doesn’t mind spending the time….
To construct a list of “families with most people in MLB ever”.
There could be two lists… one that consists just of direct family ties, like brothers or fathers/sons, and another list that includes cousins etc.
I’m sorry I didn’t find a lot of links for today. We are really in the doldrums at the moment. I don’t know how many of those “What do the Yankees need to do?” “What team should sign Shohei Ohtani?” kind of articles you guys want to read.
You can’t just make things up and call them news.
This isn’t a tv news station.
Shohei looks like he got to Tempe Diablo over the weekend per his Instagram.
He’s definitely working out here. But is he in contract negotiaions?
Arte: Hold my beer
Still 3 weeks+ away before first ST workout so im not freaking out yet, but right now its the time they hit the field (~1030am) and its 43F here. And there was snow near the Reds/Guardians complex in Goodyear.
That Puckett link is money.
Sad to see the Bando go. We’re quickly losing that generation. Over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to meet a decent amount of them like his teammates Vida Blue, Rollie Fingers, and Blue Moon Odom out at Spring Training. Great guys who can hang out with us normal folks and enjoy themselves.
That Kirby link a Check and he’ll cash it for you.
Sal Bando
Phil Nevin
Terry Francona
Huston Street
Mark Kotsay
Dave Winfield
Kumar Rocker
Dansby Swanson
All were Most Outstanding Player in CWS in Omaha.
Sal was a great Sun Devil.
Nice. We had a lot of fun chatting with George Foster a couple years back. Ferguson Jenkins is also great and out there a lot. Lee Smith, Burt Campaneris, Gaylord Perry…I’m sure you’ve seen the caravan of older guys who sign at ST.
What’s great is if you catch them on a slowish day they’ll actually chat with you for a bit. We must’ve spent 10-15 minutes with Foster which was great because my dad always liked watching him play.
Here’s my Trivia Question:
2006 Angels had these guys play in the OF:
Salmon, GA, Erstad, Vlad, Figgy, Quinlan, Pride, Rivera, and Tommy Murphy
Only one of the above had negative bWAR that year – who was it?
The Correct answer is Scioscia. He bWAR that lasagna stain on his Angels under T shirt for most of the season.
That’s related to tomorrow’s question – Scioscia put on weight each year he was manager. In what year did he gain the most?
Since I didnt get the memo, Tell me again When our teams fanfest is this year.
As an Angel, who has had the most GG’s in CF?
One Angels payer has received GG’s at more than one position, who is he?
In what year did the Keystone combination of Fregosi and Knoop both win the Gold Glove?
Including Jim Fregosi, four Shortstops have won the GG, who are the other three?
Question 1 is a T ball championship question.
It’s a poorly phrased question. I looked it up and the answer is actually “all of the above” because they each have 2 gold gloves “as an Angel” “in CF”. Erstad has the most GGs “as an Angel” in total, and Tori has the most career GGs with 9 over Edmonds’ 8.
Everybody’s a winner and everybody gets a trophy.
Oh, now I get it.
Find a new source. Most GG by any one Angel is Langston. Gary Pettit won 3 GG as an Angel in CF.
Langston won 5 consecutive (91-95)
Gary Pettit had 3
Pettit, Erstad, 1967, Cabrera + Simmons + Aybar.
The Two position GG was Erstad, at CF and 1B.
You got it.
DEAN CHANCE!
Today’s trivia question. The Angels have had a long history of great fielding Centerfielders stating with Albie Pearson and up to Mike Trout. How many Gold Gloves has Mike Trout won?
Zero
Tough loss for the Buffalo Bills at home against the Bengals. Both the Championship games will be fun stuff. One will be high scoring the other a defensive battle. I am pulling for the Chiefs and 49er’s for the Super Bowl 🏈
Them Bills are used to tough losses.
Game 2 of the 2002 World Series was as crazy a game as there ever was. Tim Salmon was a Great Angel on and off the field. I love when Tim and Garrett are part of the pre and post games and visit the booth during the games during the season.
Angels best outfield ever Anderson, Edmonds and Salmon, imho.
we had Vlad and Ersty playing with Timmy and GA in OF. I’d take either above Edmonds.
Looking pretty quickly through BREF WAR, here’s what i see (not separating out games at DH):
2012 -Trout and Torii put up 15.9 bWAR just the two of them
2000 – OFs had 16.6 bWAR
1995 maybe was the best: 19.6 between Timmy (6.6), Edmonds (5.6), Phillips (4.4), and GA (3.3)
Good morning, here is hoping that you have a wonderful Monday.
R.I.P. Sal Bando, great career in Baseball on and off the field.
