LA Angels Monday News Crash:

The Red Sox signed Justin Turner over the weekend.

Aaron Judge’s 62nd home run ball fetched $1.5 Million at auction.

The Pirates acquired Connor Joe from the Rockies in exchange for minor league right hander Nick Garcia.

Michael Brantley stays with the Astros. Dansby Swanson might be going to the Cubs. The Red Sox designated Eric Hosmer for assignment.

The Yankees signed Carlos Rodon.

Sorry. I didn’t see all that much I considered actual news.

Random thought-

If Judge hit 62 HRs with the Angels, would that ball even sell for $500,000?

Have to think much of the hype is related to the Yanks

But it would be so special for us Angel fans.

Maybe we would start up a collection.

The same thought occurred to me. And if Ohtani and Judge flipped teams, Shoehei would’ve been MVP.

Has dumped on the Angels with Petros on PMS for like 15 years now. Not undeservingly, but still.

Well they’re the Dodger’s flagship station, and BTW so has KSPN 710 am (especially Mason & Ireland) who doesn’t even carry the Dodgers anymore.
Besides Petros craps on USC FB, even though he played for them just as I do on my favorite baseball like the mean and dreaded Uncle who everybody dreads at this time of year.
Because they’ve earned every bit of my wrath!

Saw 3-4 games at the park when Kazuo Matsui played there and big Venezuelan Alex Cabrera (built like Canseco on roids) was the star gaijin, clubbed like 49-55 home runs in back-to-back years. Not a huge fan of the park. When I worked for the mouse, my appartment home was a short bike ride to the Yakult Swallows Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo. Old park surrounded by lots of bars and izakayas. Baseball is a great experience in Japan, Nihon daisuki.

Yeah, agree about the Japanese baseball experience. The fans are much more intense and into it than here (maybe Yankee Stadium exception). Reminds me of a good college football crowd. I saw a couple of games at the Lions stadium as well…

Harsh as I like Patty and preferred him to Vasgersian’s calls but there was a little too many raw, unpolished or amateur sounding moments.

A little high pitch for me on the Pujols 700 call but I’ll give the East Coast guy a chance unless I hear that East Coast love when the Yanks or Mets come to town.

He seems to call a good game. The Mets TV broadcast is as good as it gets IMO so I’m kinda jealous we only get the radio guy.

I hate baseball announcers who want to be basketball announcers, the kind who are absolutely shocked at the unbelievability of the ordinary play. These nice plays (a difficult catch, a double play, etc.) don’t need screaming.

No tears or Jeers shed here, Patrick was given a chance and he did not know how to capitalize on it. Good luck to him moving forward. My big issue with him was the patronizing of Gubby was way over the top.

While Matty V. is a good national announcer, he lacked Angels knowledge and was not accepted by the fans as a whole, so sure why not change.

With new owners soon coming on board, how long will Sam last? But we are used to change, right.

I already hate him. I need someone to mouth my thoughts every few months and make me feel like I am vaguely speaking truth to power through him to ownership. Will this Randazzo character make me feel like he is with me and I am Cool Hand Luke? No? Well fk him.

Patrick sounded too much like a fan vs a knowledgeable, comfortable pro. He made some improvements but definitely raw and needed to temper his excitement at times. In the comments I saw, he gets too excited for ordinary plays. He comes off as passionate and definitely engaged, but still missing a few things. I like him, but maybe not for play by play at this time

I love it when greed bites people in the ass. The Judge ball guy was offered $3 million before it went to auction. He got half of that minus auction house fees.

True but its funny how he probably feels less like 1.5M was dropped in his lap and more like he *lost* 1.5M

Sure, but his greed cost him 1.5 million, lol.

Usually the best time to sell is as close as possible to the actual event. The heat from the hype only dissipates over time..The media coverage creates a buzz and excitement that drives the value up… He didn’t maximize that opportunity. And you’re right — it was probably about greed.

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen.

Iconic car favorites, old Ford trucks and old Corvettes. They don’t fix well under the tree though.

Apparently, we have only scrap heap signings to look forward to.

I too was not believing Manfraud when claiming that before the season starts, but I have no confidence in him and even further don’t trust him.

Heat wave today in the mountains, up to 48 degrees. I heard that Bear and Summit have been having issues with attendance being lower than anticipated since the storm last week. May have something to do with the expense of boarding and skiing. 💰

Apparently the slopes have been a bit icy in Big Bear, enough so that a friend of mine will probably be heading to knee surgery after this past weekend’s exploits.

In other sporting news…. a question looms over the NFL. If the Steelers finish under .500 what happens? Does Mike Tomlin melt? Is he forced to admit he’s Omar Epps on steroids? Do volcanos suddenly appear and rivers run backwards?

I’m scared. But I’ll try to be brave.

Tough bind here. In the last few weeks the Steelers have played themselves out of a good draft spot and into the 14th spot.

As much as I dislike the Raiders, a loss this weekend could put us as high as 7.

But that’s the Steelers signature move. Play yourself out of a top draft pick and draft the future best receiver in the NFL with our pick #4 or something.

Yep. That’s about it.

My overgeneralized thinking is this: 4 QBs are going in the first half of the first round. Pittsburgh won’t got back to back years picking a QB. So the closer we get to 4th, the better odds of getting a stud at a position of need. OT, CB, LB, DT.

Thankfully the Bears second round pick is nearly a first round pick.

Ran into a buddy of mine who knows Kuhl. It was my friend’s impression that the sale will take a lot longer than most of us think and may extend well into the 2023 season. I truly hope that is not true and that the timeline matches Manfred’s ‘before the start of the season’ pronouncement. . All I want for Christmas is some certainty on the short term with regard to the transition of this franchise.

With all the “largest sales price in the history of selling things” speculation plus all the “you need to pay to fix this trashed stadium” and the “eventually you will need to pay to build a new stadium in Southern California or move the team” piled up I found manfred’s hope very thin. This kind of thing takes time and it won’t really kick off till the Angels actually settle on a buyer. So yeah, it was gonna be a huge surprise if it happened by or around opening day, which is why when we heard that rumor I said it was only true if Evil & Co already had an interested party in line when they announced the sale.

I was 15 feet from the Judge ball. My kid is as at 4:50 in this Jomboy video. Me next to him. I anticipated the chase over a month ahead, projected where the HR would be hit, and had seats for the last three games in the front row of the bleachers. Witnessing the event was a bonus, we were there to catch it. So close. The ball was heading right at us and hooked the last 75 feet. Jomboy pretty much nailed it. He appreciates being there now, but expected to catch it. LOL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j–MhO_Iod8

Good morning, Ya’ll, only 6 more shopping days ’till Christmas. Now then, which do you do, open presents Christmas Eve night or Christmas morning?

Quickly now, look alive, name Santa’s Reindeer.

Now you know the most famous, _________, and there’s eight more, did you at least try?

More rapid than eagles his courses they came,

And he whistled and shouted by name,

Now D_ _ _ _ _! Now, D _ _ _ _ _ _! Now P _ _ _ _ _ _ and V _ _ _ _!

On, C _ _ _ _! On C _ _ _ _! On D_ _ _ _ _ and B _ _ _ _ _ _!

To the top of the P _ _ _ _! To the top of the wall!

Answers later, but do you really need them, do you not now? Have yourself some fun and remember your first baseball present under the tree?

I was thinking “To the top of the Pinto”……the 1972 Ford Pinto’s gas tank would sometimes explode if involved in a rear impacted accident. One of my family’s modes of transportation…Me riding in the back, no seat belts, inches from the gas tank….and lived to tell about it.
