LA Angels Monday News Crash

Adrian Gonzalez retired. Other than that, several guys I never heard of got minor league contracts. The news situation is bleak.

Maybe Matt Shoemaker will get on with the Yomiuri Giants.

Sorry.

So MLB isn’t testing players for steroids now because of the lock-out?

Maybe they figure they’ll need the roiders to bail them out again after this fiasco?

Really good piece on the trial on the Athletic.

As a staff we’ve been diving for links for a couple of months. It is tough sledding out there right now.

Credit to Charles and John for trying to do this multiple times a week. I only cover Friday’s and that’s a chore.

Feels like the Angels have become the media traing ground for other teams, Adaya to Dodgers and now Mota. If we go back a little further we have Torres to the Giants

You forgot about Alden Gonzalez with ESPN but I doubt the Teams really have that much say on what club the writers will be assigned to by their publication.

Going way back you could probably include Don Drysdale in that mix since he cut his broadcasting teeth with Enberg before moving over to the Latrine.

Drysdale stopped in Chicago for about 6 years between Anaheim and LA. And don’t forget he did Rams games for a couple of seasons with Enberg mid 70’s. What a time to be a sports obsessed kid in SoCal.

Don’s sojourn with the Rams did not go well, as Jim Healy fans know well.

Dave Niehaus was an announcer in the 1960s for the club with Dick Enberg.

He left for the expansion Mariners in 1977 and became a HOF broadcaster spending >30 years up there.

Joe Torre was the Angels TV play by play guy 1985-1990, then he went back to manager.

There’s an article on Mota leaving in the Athletic. With just a very little reading between the lines, it sounds like Mota wanted the play-by-play job but Moreno/Carpino weren’t going to give it to him, so Mota decided to go get the job with another team.

Spanish speaking PxP? Do the Angels still have a Spanish speaking station?

Yeah, he got the shaft. That’s too bad. I found his voice to be non-irritating when reacting to an element of surprise or high-level of excitement.

Did Mota die? The only time I ever see anybody who sucked at his job get polished up as a “terrible loss” like this is when a guy dies. The guy was an unintelligible mess half the time and people in the Halosphere constantly laughed at it or wanked about it.

Or are we just that desperate to complain about something?

What’s next? “I miss Buttercup! It’s a real pip of a song and the guys in The Foundations are super nice. One of them said hi to me once.”

He didn’t bother me, but neither did rex hudler. Mota was here for more than half of my life, so I’m appreciative for that.

The Lakers struggling with Westbrook’s contract reminds me of the Angels dealing with the last few years of Gramps contract. The lesson learned is releasing a sunk cost is better, in our case elevating Jared Walsh to the All Star team as soon as he was given a chance. For the Lakers, sadly, there is no Walsh on their bench.

Speaking of gramps, I heard that when baseball eventually resumes, it’s pretty certain that the DH will be universal. Good news for gramps.

too bad the strategy is to blow up part of this season. And there’s nothing we can do!

i’d say Malik Monk is capable of that Walsh role (my opinion). With Vogel’s job on the line as it is, i don’t think he’s worried about Westbrook’s feelings right now.

That contract is the new albertross for my favorite team.

Unfortunately, unlike baseball, there really is no farm system to pull from in the NBA. And Considering the Lakers have traded away pretty much all of their assets and are completely handcuffed by the salary cap, the price for letting Lebron run their team means they are now beyond screwed.

Hell they even alienated the 83 year old Logo. I think It’s time for Jeannie and the kids to sell the team.

FU-Arte…that is the first thought that entered my mind.

Of course, Jose should have remained here after his long standing commitment to the organization. I never would have imagined how bad things fell apart after Victor left.

As much as I like Jose as a person, would we have wanted him to replace Victor? I’d imagine not.

I still don’t understand letting Waltz go.

On this day in 1964, a British group arrived in the United States. I’d like to see this be a National Holiday. Also, two days from now should be another National Holiday to remember that British group being on a newspaper columnist’s TV show.

Yes. I my team can’t win it I’d like to see a team that never has win it and I like a lot of their players. I like the Rams too, I just want OBJ to die ringless. But if they win my brother will be stoked, so that’s cool too. I love Superbowls where I’ll be pretty happy no matter who wins.

Nothing technical about it. That would be like saying the Cleveland Rams won a Super Bowl.
