LA Angels Tuesday News Crash: Lou Gehrig Day

Major League Baseball celebrates Lou Gehrig Day today. Among the items being auctioned off to raise money in the fight against ALS is a Jo Adell autographed Marucci Bat.

One player that each team hopes will heat up. For the Angels it was Jorge Soler, who is said to be nursing a groin injury.

The Rangers just signed Jarred Kelenic to a minor league deal. Carlos Carrasco passed through waivers unclaimed and was outrighted to triple-A by the Braves.

Brusdar Graterol had back surgery and might miss the rest of the season. Elly de la Cruz will miss two to four weeks with his hamstring issue.

The Diamondbacks reinstated Pavin Smith from the 60 day IL.

Now that Soriano is regressing, is Walbert now our “ace”? If so, what does that say about the rotation MinASSian has put together?

The stench of yesterday’s loss has not gone away. The trio of Arturo, MinASSian and Suzuki is just the dumbest/worst in baseball, and it’s not even close.

The 3 man team continues to shine.

Trout. 159 OPS+ 2.5 WAR
Peraza. 131 OPS+. 1.8 WAR
Neto. 117 OPS+. 1.6 WAR

Unfortunately, the rest of the position players are pretty bad with the next highest regular being Nolan Schanuel 98 OPS+ .5 WAR. The rest are much worse. The 3 above are our real core at least for position players at the MLB level.

Today is the first time this season all our minor league affiliates play on the same day.

Bremner makes his return after a month long absence (mysterious illness).

So glad MinASSian reached for another injured player.

I know most will poopoo this one too guys. But I’d do this in an instant. Neto is so a Murphy guy. They get better for a playoff run. We build our future. We still have a lot of guys to deal that could get us prepped for 2 to 3 years out. Painful yet sensible to both teams are how the big trades happen.

Nice connection to Murphy – yes! he coached Pedroia at ASU and imagine he’d love Zach.

I believe Grayson is undervalued so I would not include him in the trade. Made would have to be a 7 win player for that trade to work.

Nah. Giving up a 4 WAR SS and potential top of the rotation arm for a prospect is bananas

I think you gotta trade those guys in individual deals. Maximize the quantity of return in addition to potential.

Problem here is giving up 3 for 1 on an Angels team that needs 1 for 3. The minors are bereft of even replacement value players and would need to fill 3 roster spots.

3 Trojans in Super Regionals – pretty cool. 7 of 12 SEC teams advance. All but Tennessee were in regional finals. It’s good for baseball 4 did get eliminated – but it shows how dominant the conference is as a whole. Now – let’s see a Cinderella win it all.

I watched about everything Sat and Sun, but once ASU was bounced, I couldn’t stomach anything yesterday.

Next weekend though I’ll hop on the USC and Cal Poly wagon.

Two Big 12 teams move on but only WV will have my backing. F that school in Lawerence.

Welp – Looks like Soriano is losing some trade value. Could have gotten a haul for him on May 1st.

We won’t get the high end right now – that’s for sure. MLB season is long. He was bound to level out. Of course we’re going to get a haul for Josh Lowe to make up for it. 😂

I think the value is still there. Being on the Angels is the knock against him. An astute franchise can better maximize his arsenal. It can be nasty as we’ve seen.

Well this is kind of where we would see the influence of someone like Maddux isn’t it? Analyze what has happened with Soriano and Jack K last few starts and get them back on track. Assuming no injury component.
