Opening Day has come and gone and Mike Trout has reminded us why we love him so much. It can be frustrating being an Angels fan at times but then we get games like this where we are reminded we’ve watched the entire career of a generational great.
I’m not sure which brought me more joy. Trout working a walk in the first then showing off the wheels he’s lacked the last few years.
Or seeing that patented short, quick swing launch a mammoth home run.
Hopefully I get to spend this summer showing my son what the real Mike Trout was like. Let me do that and eat some helmet sundaes and I’ll be a happy dad.
Those three walks of Trout largely came so Houston could feast on Nolan Schanuel and that proved to be the right move until it wasn’t. The blast from Nolan was great to see.
Yeah, I know I’ve been a bit lazy and turned this column into Jeff’s On SI links but I’ve been buried at work and let’s be real, I link good stuff ha ha. But most of this week’s pieces were on the roster moves and predicting things.
But there’s only one prediction piece that really matters.
As of this writing, the Angels are undefeated. I’ll take it. And just to brag I did say Soriano was perfect for Opening Day.
Today we get Yusei Kikuchi on the hill versus the Astros. I like this preview videos from MLB.
How many folks here play fantasy baseball? Should I link more fantasy stuff? At least the type of fantasies I can link on a baseball blog, anyway. FanGraphs does some good fantasy coverage and lists their favorite Angel to pick up. Kind of a surprising name.
There’s just too much good stuff today. How about the game by Detroit rookie Kevin McGonigle?
Ohtani hooked his teammates up with come cool gifts.
The type of story you never want to link. Alec Bohm is suing his parents for mismanaging his money. Never want to see a family ripped apart.
The Cubs spent some money this week. A 6 year extension for Nico Hoerner was announced yesterday. A few days ago PCA got his bag for $105 million.
And this is the coolest thing that happened all day. 109 and still heaving it.
Enjoy your weekend and link what I missed. I had plans but now I don’t so I think I’ll smoke some ribs and watch a ton of sports. Baseball is back! March Madness is in full swing. And there are fights Saturday night. Definitely going to need food, a TV, and some family and friends.
