LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: 2026 Season Start

GOOD morning Angels fans! Have some links!

Angels News

The Angels end Cactus play by shuting out the Dodgers. This is despite striking out 11 times in just 4 Ohtani innings. Angels finish at 17-15-1 in Spring Training, 5/15 in the desert.

Angels add one more RP to the team, Joey Lucchesi. He was just cut by the Giants.

Looks like the city of Anaheim is trying to lobby the state to make the team the Anaheim Angels again. Just sell the team Arte.

Kitty? At Angel Stadium? It is more likely than you think.

Around Baseball

The 2026 MLB season starts tonight with the Yankees at the Giants. Really, it should be at the Reds but whatever. Oh yeah, and it is on Netflix. I hate this timeline.

Want to watch good teams? MLB.TV is owned by ESPN now, but T-Mobile will still give it to you for free if you are on their network.

Blue Jays are giving away a Vlad Jr Bobblehead. Of him as a kid with an Expos jersey on. Yeah… he was never coming here…

PCA has a big deal with the Cubs. 6/115M starting in 2027.

So which teams are most toxic and panic-y? (On reddit at least?) Turns out it is Red Sox as most toxic and Tigers as most panic. Makes sense.

Tigers punishing a whistelblower. Not shocked at all.

Usually pretty excited about opening day. Appreciate your humor JHW!!

Let’s see. I poached MLBtv Tmo from a friend so I’ll have that this year. I’m not buying the AngelsTV package again of $20/month or $100/year but I’ll watch some Padres and Giants games. I didn’t watch any baseball this spring training other than WBC because that’s what was televised between my subscriptions to youtubetv, Netflix, prime, HBO, paramount, Disney, Hulu, apple, etc. Baseball has more than an impending strike problem, it’s a viewing problem. I even have spectrum internet and mobile service but don’t activate my spectrumLA or whatever it’s called for doyer baseball.

I’ll go to about 8 games this year. Will take the kids to SD & SF games and am hoping to make sac town before they go to LV.

My season predictions:
67-95
Team MVP: Neto
Pitching MVP: Kikuchi
Arte sees what the Padres sell for ($3+ billion) and sells for $2.8 sometime between the end of this season and start of 2028 season. No 2027 WS like 1994.

Riddle me this: Is there a legitimate baseball or business reason why Rendon is still on the roster?

I understand that it costs nothing to keep him on IR “indefinitely”….but you’d only do that for spite or if “someone” believed he still wanted to play this season.

It’s damn hard to build a homegrown rotation nowadays. Exhibit A, the Dodgers — Yamamoto (bought), Ohtani (bought), Snell (bought), Glasnow (bought), Sasaki (bought and sucks), Sheehan (congrats LAD, you got one).

Blue Jays – Gausman (bought), Cease (bought), Scherzer (bought), Bieber (bought).

At least we’re trying to build something internal — Soriano (homegrown), Kikuchi (bought), Detmers (homegrown), Silent C (homegrown), Johnson (homegrown). I would love to see this rotation become a bright spot as Perry’s pitching lab develops our next wave of pitchers down in the minors (Bremner, Klassen, Dana).

It takes time to build “home grown”. It takes money to buy in hopes of winning “now”.

Money is fungible. Very few have the patience to wait for the draft to build a winner.

Well said! If you got the money might as well spend it.

I have such fond memories growing up watching our rotation feature Washburn, Ortiz, Lackey, Santana, Weave, Saunders. Of course throughout the years we brought in Bartolo, Escobar, Haren, Greinke, Wilson to supplement.

I miss those days. Our decade of futility has coincided with our inability to develop starting pitching.

The couple of live sporting events I’ve watched on Netflix have had some lag/frame rate/resolution issues. I guess it could be my mountain internet, but I think it’s more a Netflix problem based on what I’ve seen other people say. Hopefully those kinks have been ironed out. Wonder what the viewer numbers for this game will look like
