LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: 2026 Season Start

GOOD morning Angels fans! Have some links!

Angels News

The Angels end Cactus play by shuting out the Dodgers. This is despite striking out 11 times in just 4 Ohtani innings. Angels finish at 17-15-1 in Spring Training, 5/15 in the desert.

Angels add one more RP to the team, Joey Lucchesi. He was just cut by the Giants.

Looks like the city of Anaheim is trying to lobby the state to make the team the Anaheim Angels again. Just sell the team Arte.

Kitty? At Angel Stadium? It is more likely than you think.

Around Baseball

The 2026 MLB season starts tonight with the Yankees at the Giants. Really, it should be at the Reds but whatever. Oh yeah, and it is on Netflix. I hate this timeline.

Want to watch good teams? MLB.TV is owned by ESPN now, but T-Mobile will still give it to you for free if you are on their network.

Blue Jays are giving away a Vlad Jr Bobblehead. Of him as a kid with an Expos jersey on. Yeah… he was never coming here…

PCA has a big deal with the Cubs. 6/115M starting in 2027.

So which teams are most toxic and panic-y? (On reddit at least?) Turns out it is Red Sox as most toxic and Tigers as most panic. Makes sense.

Tigers punishing a whistelblower. Not shocked at all.

I’m stoked for another 70-92 season!

Go Halos!

So, where the Hell can I watch “Halos train wreck 2026?”

I just hope we see incremental improvement for our young’ish players and a turn back the clock season from Michael Nelson Trout.

Anything beyond that is icing.

I am rooting for Mike. I’d like to see him focus more on his AVG and OBP, at the expense of power. I would be fine with him only hitting 20-25 HR’s if he could get his BA up to around .280-.285 with a good OBP of around .370-.380. If he is batting 2nd that is what we will need from him. With the fact he is usually really good at drawing walks, it is certainly possible. BUT I do suspect it will be a challenge for him to stay on the field.

Tomorrow I’m going to the local T-Mobile office to see about this mlb tv thing. I know there’s a one week window. I’ll find out if it’s for those who are already signed up as well as for switchers

I got it from a friend of mine. I hope you get a package. You need one.

It’s part of their TMobile Tuesday from 3/24-3/31 so it’s both anyone who already has it and anyone who signs up during that period. That’s it. Can’t show up 4/1 and want it no matter if you’re a customer or potential new one.

About 4-years in a row, a very nice perk for being customer

does arte get a special treat for volunteering the angels as the away team to open the mlb season?

Maybe he has been reading all the posts, and realizes not many are excited about the season (they have already given up) so he figures being on the road is no big deal.
Or , he knows MLB sets the schedule and he has no say on what the league does. If you start on the road, you usually end the season at home. There is a trade-off.

Well, we end on the road, as well.

We’ve had no home games for Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day… fuck we may never get another MLB All Star game again with this pÅthetic group here huh EHC

I doubt getting an All Star game in Anaheim is high on the list of priorities for many fans any way. I’d be more pleased to get another playoff game.

yeah, well, that’s why I said usually – MLB makes the rules and even evil Arte has to live with that –

maybe someone here can help me out….

I have other ways of watching but it’s kind of annoying the last three preseason games…

I have cable, and was able to watch on the APP last year connecting to my provider…

But now the Fanduel Sports Network App does not have the Angels listed.

Is there another app? Am i dumb?

Angels are no longer available on FanDuel app as they’ve moved their streaming to mlb.tv. I don’t think you can connect your cable subscription through mlb.tv but you could try?

Originally this was this case. However, they purchased part of FanDuel a week or two ago and all the games will be televised there this season after all.

Yes that’s for cable but you still can’t stream it on the FanDuel app. Streaming is exclusive to mlb.tv. FanDuel sent this info out via email yesterday.

I’ve streamed the last 3 games vs the Dodgers on FanDuel through my Amazon Prime account.

Maybe the feed is actually coming through mlb.tv, but I am gaining access by purchasing a monthly FanDuel subscription.

Yeah I just checked and I have the game available on Prime starting at noon tomorrow. It made me switch back to FanDuel West from FanDuel SoCal though.

Hopefully it works throughout the whole season, all I’m saying is to not be shocked if they try to take away that option to funnel people to mlb.tv. The monthly cost for that and angels.tv are the same.

I purchase a standalone FanDuel subscription through my Amazon Prime streaming account and play all the games through Prime.

This year was strange – the first two preseason games, I had to sign up for the LA Kings FanDuel subscription, then last night it switched to the Clippers subscription and I had to update which one I was paying for. Neither option had the Angels listed but Prime was smart enough to figure out what I needed based on which game I was trying to watch.

How much did it cost through Prime?

$20/month

I am curious, based on ryanfea’s comments above, if this is some sort of glitch and I won’t retain access. Perhaps that’s why its acting strange.

Yesterday I posted some predictions for 2026 season. One prediction was the Angels will use 27 pitchers this season. That looks like an easy one to happen. I also said 20 players would be on, at various times, the IL. Well, five are on IL now, not including Mr. Rendon. Speaking of him, he will be paid $245 million, he played in 257 games, nearly $1 mill per game.

I’ll definitely take the over on the number of pitchers used. 27 would be the fewest in a non-pandemic shortened season since 2015.

Was in Vegas last week and laid $20 on the Halos to win it all. Pays $3,000 or something. Yee haw!

Everything is set up for Joyce, Bachman, and Silseth to usurp the 7-8-9th inning roles.

I do think Romano has a solid year fwiw

Some encouraging signs for the minor league system here. A nice writeup that mentions 3 Angel minor leaguers. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/notes-from-the-field-observations-from-backfields-and-breakout-games/

Usually pretty excited about opening day. Appreciate your humor JHW!!

Let’s see. I poached MLBtv Tmo from a friend so I’ll have that this year. I’m not buying the AngelsTV package again of $20/month or $100/year but I’ll watch some Padres and Giants games. I didn’t watch any baseball this spring training other than WBC because that’s what was televised between my subscriptions to youtubetv, Netflix, prime, HBO, paramount, Disney, Hulu, apple, etc. Baseball has more than an impending strike problem, it’s a viewing problem. I even have spectrum internet and mobile service but don’t activate my spectrumLA or whatever it’s called for doyer baseball.

I’ll go to about 8 games this year. Will take the kids to SD & SF games and am hoping to make sac town before they go to LV.

My season predictions:
67-95
Team MVP: Neto
Pitching MVP: Kikuchi
Arte sees what the Padres sell for ($3+ billion) and sells for $2.8 sometime between the end of this season and start of 2028 season. No 2027 WS like 1994.

Riddle me this: Is there a legitimate baseball or business reason why Rendon is still on the roster?

I understand that it costs nothing to keep him on IR “indefinitely”….but you’d only do that for spite or if “someone” believed he still wanted to play this season.

It’s damn hard to build a homegrown rotation nowadays. Exhibit A, the Dodgers — Yamamoto (bought), Ohtani (bought), Snell (bought), Glasnow (bought), Sasaki (bought and sucks), Sheehan (congrats LAD, you got one).

Blue Jays – Gausman (bought), Cease (bought), Scherzer (bought), Bieber (bought).

At least we’re trying to build something internal — Soriano (homegrown), Kikuchi (bought), Detmers (homegrown), Silent C (homegrown), Johnson (homegrown). I would love to see this rotation become a bright spot as Perry’s pitching lab develops our next wave of pitchers down in the minors (Bremner, Klassen, Dana).

It takes time to build “home grown”. It takes money to buy in hopes of winning “now”.

Money is fungible. Very few have the patience to wait for the draft to build a winner.

Pineapple12

Well said! If you got the money might as well spend it.

I have such fond memories growing up watching our rotation feature Washburn, Ortiz, Lackey, Santana, Weave, Saunders. Of course throughout the years we brought in Bartolo, Escobar, Haren, Greinke, Wilson to supplement.

I miss those days. Our decade of futility has coincided with our inability to develop starting pitching.

In 70s Homegrown was pretty popular.

The couple of live sporting events I’ve watched on Netflix have had some lag/frame rate/resolution issues. I guess it could be my mountain internet, but I think it’s more a Netflix problem based on what I’ve seen other people say. Hopefully those kinks have been ironed out. Wonder what the viewer numbers for this game will look like
