LA Angels Monday News Crash:

Here is another look at the Angels internal options for the infield. Michael Hermosillo is now a minor league coach in the Dodgers organization.

Left-hander Keegan Akin lost his arbitration hearing against the Orioles. That cost him $400,000.00. The Phillies re-signed Lou Trivino to a minor league deal. Conner Capel got his minor league deal with the Rockies.

Former Royal Terrance Gore passed away at the age of 34. He passed away following what was supposed to be a routine surgical procedure.

I just saw a Jomboy breakdown of the infamous 2005 ALCS blown call. I’m not sure if it is an old video that was reposted or something new, but it was interesting and infuriating. Don’t watch it if you are in a good mood and want to stay in a good mood.

MLB umpiring changed after this blown call, a breakdown

“….Royal Terrance Gore passed away…….following what was supposed to be a routine surgical procedure….”

First, there is a joke (albeit, quite a bit of truth in it): routine surgery is surgery that is performed on someone else.

Second, in this day of DEI/woke, where my alma mater UCLA is admitting students to their medical school who would never have been admitted years ago —- do not undergo surgery unless it’s life-threatening, or you cannot take the pain anymore. You do not know if your doctor is qualified.

side note #1: 10 years ago, 1st-year UCLA medical students failed their final exams (which is needed to advance to 2nd year) at a rate of something like 1.5%-2%.
In recent years, that rate is now 3%-3.5%

That may not seem like much; but, remember, THESE FUTURE DOCTORS will include surgeons who are operating on you, and family doctors who will be (mis)diagnosing you.

Seems super off topic, possibly anti-immigrant and political as well as a bit hysterical and potentially even fake news. People have died during routine surgeries as long as surgery has been being done. Modern medical care and surgical procedures are light years ahead of even 20 years ago. Why post this here when there are plenty of panic sites that would gladly seek your opinion on this matter?

Trying to make my toes curl? So is Tyler Anderson. Amazing, there still is a ton of 2025 starting pitchers available at this late time of the offseason. I see 4-5 guys I would be tempted to snag if this team wanted to compete. Come mid-March, might get a sneaky good pick-up at an affordable price.

I’d like to see the Angels punt d’Arnaud to the curb and sign Vasquez or Heim. But it really doesn’t matter I suppose. I just want new players to watch and complain about.

Dude is an enigma wrapped in a riddle. One moment he could have the most nails, late in game at bats and fifteen seconds later forget what team he played for.

Marlins sign my pick for low key fairly good innings eaten… Chris Paddock. 4 million bucks. I get the idea of gambling on Manoah though….

Also, because I bet on Paddock he will likely explode like a dude in Scanners.

D1, yes. But I actually watched LSU Shreveport (NAIA) play January 22nd on a stop on a road trip. I notice they just lost for the first time in about 70 games.

Sunday’s weather was great of a February Winter Day, but the biggest sporting event of the year was boring, very boring if you count the half time show. Olympics was very kool though, women’s downhill, Curling and ice skating were entertaining which is more than can be said for football. Up next is opening camp and March Madness (College Basketball) which is always fun stuff. And we have got a week and a half left of Olympics. The Winter Olympics’ is more fun than the Summer Olympics if you love the snow and ice.
Have a great week everyone.

Other than hockey and a couple other things I could give a shit about the Winter Olympics. It’s like watching the E! Network of sports with a little Hallmark Chanel mixed in.

But it’s weird how I get sucked into the friggin curling…. is it because it’s so slow moving? I dunno, but man I seem to really need to see if that plumber from Wolverhampton can clunk that cement puck out of the blue circle while bouncing his into the green circle….

Yesterday’s game was another great example of how overhyped and boring football usually is. Now with that season out the way we can turn our attention to basketball and baseball.

Game was a total dud, minus me winning the SB squares!
Overhyped and boring = basketball. Downright hilarious seeing Magic, Bird, MJ and even recent retirees talking crap on the players/sport. If AND1 + high end recreational league ball with no defense is your thing, guess that’s ‘entertainment’.
I’m also finding the current MLB of Ks, HR, and pitching a whole inning boring af.
Also, to be fair, the first weekend of 6 nations rugby wasn’t entertaining either.

MMA/Boxing…. they need to carpe the diem while the other sports are a snooz. Still fun to watch even if boxing is a mess. Gotta get these Americans into Mooo Eee Tie…. MMA without all the boring rolling on the ground….

I’m kind of liking the Zuffa cards other than the living room sized venues.

Dana has gotten a bunch of B/B+ type fighters who are pretty evenly matched so it results in good fights. Most fans just want to see good fights and very few appreciate the little intricacies of the sport.

With both it and UFC on the same streaming service, he’ll probably create more hybrid fans too.

Haven’t watched Zuffa boxing….yet. I certainly will at some point.

UFC on Paramount Plus is a major boon for me. I used to pay the $8.99/ESPN+ and another $80 for the monthly PPV.

I’ll save roughly $1,000 this year alone.

Bautista & Horiguchi both looked very good this past Saturday night.

I watched the 2nd QTR only and nearly vomited with the horrendous halftime show before tapping out. Far better things to do with my time.

This was literally one of the best NFL seasons in recent memory. No dominant teams, lots of previously bad teams that became competitive out of nowhere, so many good island games (even on Thursday nights for a change).

The Superbowl was bad, but I would not label the season as a whole as overhyped and boring.

It’s almost as if some people got together and negotiated a compensation agreement that included a cap/floor and penalties then created a schedule system that made like teams play each other and that might cause fans to engage more because their team “has a chance”.

TL:DR, this is what happens when players and owners aren’t asshats.

Football will always be king because at this point its too deeply ingrained in America culture. The product itself has been trending down for the last several years — it’s 15 minutes of actual gameplay sandwiched between endless commercials; quarterback play across the league is in the gutter; almost all defenses play the same bend but don’t break Cover 2 base limiting explosive plays and offense as a whole.

The reason this past season was so competitive was because most teams were extremely mid.

I know I’m talking into an empty void btw lol.

I know you’re just sad about the Colts epic collapse last year lol

I agree with your points about teams being mid and QB play being down this year, but that didn’t really impact the watchability for me personally – the lack of dominant teams actually made things more interesting

I don’t think commercials are any worse now than they were 20 years ago.

Brooo don’t even get me started on the Colts lol! If only Indiana Jones wasn’t made of glass…

After dropping fantasy football a few years ago my interest in the sport has continually waned. The pace of play is just too slow for my ADD brain. Alternatively, baseball’s implementation of the pick clock has been a game changer and had the opposite effect on me

I HEART the pitch clock. Remember when MLB guys like that douche Max Scherzur were assuring us that it’s impossible and dangerous for MLB pitchers to have the pitch clock? What a twat.

There were plenty of explosive plays. I watched the Steelers give em up all the time. You just watched the Colts too close. They were about as explosive as a can of milk.

Football became dominant because it only took up one day per week and fantasy exploded.

Now that the NFL is on three nights a week, sometimes four, and there are so many regular season games I actually feel less urgency to tune in. There’s so much of it, that missing some doesn’t hurt.

That said, it is a great sport for America. A little violent, played in digestible little bit sized chunks, and still capable of fitting into our crammed lives.

Football’s popularity is also related to competitive balance which is in turn related to the salary cap. Baseball’s popularity has been falling steadily for the last 30+ years.

The play offs were pretty friggin good… only crap game I watched was my Steelers playing polite on defense and offense so they could gently usher the Texans down the line. The season was good too.

They probably need to expand rosters though. There were some teams that were just beat to flat shit by injuries by the time the season was 2/3 done.

I really don’t prefer the, “anybody can win on a given Sunday and get to the Super Bowl” season. I prefer to watch strong dominant teams face off, with great QBs. I’d rather watch Josh Allen than Maye ina. Super Bowl, by a wide margin. I’m not a fan of either team.

I think what the league went through this year were teams on the rise (Bears, Jags, Broncos) and played well vs teams on the decline. Some teams have run their course and need a reset; Ravens, Chiefs, Eagle, and 49ers.

They were who I thought they were. Seattle and the Rams was the defacto super bowl as the NFC clearly had superior top end teams.

It was weird. For the first time in a long time I sort of liked most of the teams that got into the play offs and none of the teams I hate were in… and yet the two teams I was the most meh about made the Super Bowl and then it was just the SheHawks clobbering some poor kid for what seemed like five hours.

The Steelers are still the worst best team…. fert.
